yes, I was thinking about the mats too. I already have them in her play area but might just get more for her room. Although, I can't help thinking that carpeting is better because with the mats, it's hard to get around some bits of furniture and you can't really put the furniture on them because then it can't be moved without leaving huge dents. And I think that as long as it's vacuumed regularly and well, it should be ok. Thanks to all for the replies in any case. edited by m_king on 08/01/2011

Just as an FYI in case you do decide to consider it, the risk of miscarriage as a result of amnio used to be considered relatively high but is actually much smaller than that... about 1 in 1,500 or even more. And the 'trick' is to have it done by ... I forget the proper title but by people who do many of them each day as it's all about practice.

Can anyone tell me where to find wall to wall carpeting? I want to carpet my 1 year old's room before moving her into it and haven't found a reasonably priced rug that's large enough to cover the main space. Best I found was at IKEA and it's almost Dhs 1000 for a synthetic thing that isn't quite as large as I would have liked (just want the bare tile covered so she doesn't hurt herself if she falls or whatever) Thanks

In fairness, Nostradamus IS said to have taken all his written predictions and to have tossed them up into the air to muddle them all up, the git!!

Same happened to me in Syria. Both upper legs covered in blisters and it was excruciating. Never thought to go to the police. Should have! And to think I was considering the same deal!!

Thank you ladies. Could either of you tell me what the letter from the embassy should say? I contacted the Canadian embassy a few days back and this guy said, in a very uninterested tone, that "yes, yes, you write that I blah blah blah am supporting my mother etc etc (he actually said "etc etc") and then bring it here and we will witness your signature and stamp it. I plan to go in tomorrow and just realised tonight that I don't actually know what needs to be said!! And I won't have time to ring them tomorrow before going in as I need to be there as soon as they open. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks. Also, can anyone tell me what the fee is? I know there's a Dhs 5000 deposit but surely there's also a non-refundable fee, no? Finally, anjum_gulf... I can't be certain that my mum would come back before 6 months are up. She might be a week or two more for various reasons. Do you know what the fine is?

Thanks Sippycup. Yes, that's kind of what I figured. St.George, they told me they aren't carrying Britax anymore as - according to them - it doesn't sell!

No worries at all bc. Just felt bad if my post was badly worded and I made you think I was trying to get you to explain yourself. How about some really cool new games for the xbox or what-have-you... assuming there are some he hasn't got. Does he have internet access at the hospital? My nephew is mad keen about 'points' that I buy him online at Amazon. I'm going to sound very ignorant but they're something to do with playing some online game on the xbox.

sippycup... do you know how much Shop & Ship are going to charge you? I looked up the weight of these car seats and they're ****** heavy Around 28 pounds. I know they charge on air chargeable weight not straight weight but assuming it is straight weight, we'd be looking at 840 Dhs just for the shipping!! Do you really think that's still cheaper than buying the same thing here (assuming you could even find the same thing here).

Bornconfused, I wasn't in any way suggesting you needed to explain your reasons for wanting to do this. I was only trying to understand what it was you were trying to accomplish... The son of a colleague of DH when we lived in Syria was also diagnosed with Leukemia and the very best 'gift' he got was one of his classmates showing up at his house every day through all the testing and chemo. Each day he took either his xbox or a bunch of movies or whatever. Clearly you're not going to be doing that but like was already suggested, I think an xbox or something like that is a brilliant idea.

sippycup... OMG.. never thought of that. I figured that it would be ludicrously expensive to do it that way but I forgot, the prices here are all inflated anyway so no, it probably won't cost more if we have it shipped over! Thanks. Will have a look at the site you suggested.

Ah. Googled them. Unfortunately they don't carry Britax or Graco. Nor Cosco or Evenflo! But thank you.

Can you be a little more specific? What do you mean by wanting to send something? As in, a gift? Sorry but isn't that a little uncommon? I mean, to send someone a gift because they've been diagnosed with something like this. Not being judgmental. Just trying to figure out what it is you mean to do. How old is he? And do you have any idea what kind of Leukemia it is and what the prognosis is? Here's hoping he'll be okay.
