What do you ladies normally do please? Do you just apply for the health card or do you take out personal private insurance for your maid? If you get the health card, what does it cover exactly please? Thanks so much for any info you may be able to provide!

Can anyone advise please? We are looking at sponsoring a nanny / maid and my husbands visa is only valid for a further 8 months. How does this affect any visa application he makes? If we apply for a nanny / maid visa now, will it have to be renewed once his visa is renewed? TIA!

Kelly, We had PC in once or twice and have 2 kitties. We put them in a cattery for one day, had PC come in early morning and gave it 24 hours before taking them home again. They do say to have them out of the house for a certain length of time but I was worried about residue on the floors etc that the kitties might get on their paws and then lick.... Maybe a little extreme but it was worth it for peace of mind... Good luck!

I have found a very good lady to take care of our baby - she seems responsible, hardworking and we have been given an excellent reference from her current employer. Although she has had extensive childcare experience, I would like to put her on a refresh course if such a thing exists? I know there are first aid courses with Back to Basics but was just wondering if anyone could recommend any other courses for general child care? TIA!

We looked everywhere for Britax and couldnt get the model we were looking for. Otherwise there was a website recommended on here for a European based company and the delivery costs werent too bad... think it was carseat.se so that may be worth a look depending on the time you have...

Good morning Buckeye, Yes it IS getting exciting now! I have about 30 days to EDD but my dr is talking about inducing a week to 10 days early to possibly only another 3 weeks... lets see! Have been absolutely fine with regards to labour up until the last week or so but starting to feel a little apprehensive now due to certain medication Im on that may have an impact on the labour. That is making me a little anxious but Im sure all will be fine. My Dr appointments are every week now since last week and every time she does a quick scan... just to take measurements, baby weight and check heartbeat but it IS reassuring. Maybe you could request an appointment next week if you think that may put your mind at rest? And possibly request a scan before then too - not sure if they can refuse..? Hope all the other December ladies are doing well... not long to go now!

Morning all, For those who can help could you please give me an indication on the below: - how long does it take for a maids visa process to be completed from start to finish? - if a maid is already in Dubai and she is just transferring from one employer to another, does she still need to leave the country? - how many of you provide private health insurance to your maids? If you dont, do you still need to cover things that are not covered on a health card or is pretty much everything covered on health card eg dentist, optician but only within certain hospitals etc? - for those of you who do provide private health insurance, could you please recommend some good, reasonably priced providers? Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks ladies so much for all of your comments - very much appreciated. The older lady is only in her late 40's - I know its not old :) but just to say that she is older than the other lady we were looking at. I have a tendancy to agree with a lot of the comments saying that the older lady might be the better choice. Reliability is something that is very important to us as when I go back to work it is really important that we have someone we can depend on and trust implicitly with regards to turning up etc and I have heard many stories about younger ladies not being so reliable. I do not want to generalise at all but these are things unfortunately that we really need to take into consideration. Thanks again and if anyone has anything else to add, Id really appreciate it.

Hi Daza, I know where you are coming from. The priority is the babycare to be honest and having someone reliable for when I go back to work. I completely get the energy thing though which is why i was wondering what others thought... On one hand I would like someone energetic around the house but Im wondering if reliability and honesty is more important. For info, this would be for a live out position too....

Hey all, Quick question - are you all still very active at the weekends? I dont know about you but all I want to do is go home on a Thursday evening and stay at home for the weekend! Of course it is the time of year where there are lots of birthdays and celebrations that I cant really avoid going to but all I want to do is VEG! :(

Thanks Asti, Its a Filipina that we are looking at hiring. So you would suggest Dhs600 for accommodation but we would also add transportation to that too I would imagine, no?

Thanks ladies, Sorry I should have stated that we would be hiring her directly and will be sponsoring her so all will of course be above board. I know what you mean Dubai 1990 about the visa not actually belonging to us as it technically belongs to the embassy... it's not an easy decision so was hoping for some opinions of those who are in a similar situation.... Daza, is it common practise for sponsoring families to hold the passports of live in help?

Morning all, Also had an appointment last night and the dr confirmed that the baby has started to drop. I have been feeling extra pressure on my poor bladder recently so thats obviously it :) but at the same time, have had much less of an appetite - still feel as if my stomach has absolutely no room in there whatsoever! Dr also mentioned last night that she may think of inducing at week 39... Not sure how I feel about this. I am very against having a cesarean if I can help it and she said that the baby is a little on the large side. So, in an effort to avoid a potential cesarean, she has suggested inducing at 39 weeks but has also said that she will see how it goes closer to the time. That means I have just over 4 weeks to go!!!! I know what you mean now TDB about feeling scared / excited - it all seemed like so far away up to now and now it feels like there is no time at all!!!

But the address associated to my Amazon account is a UK address. When I go into Manage my Kindle, it shows my country settings as UK but when I want to manage my kindle, it automatically redirects me to .com. Thanks simpleasabc, I just want to try to reregister to .co.uk as there is much more choice with regards to the books you can buy and many I have searched for are not available on the .com website but are available on the .co.uk website.

amanda, we had this last year and the invading cat in question was a real beast! It terrorised our cat from outside while she was inside and every time she set foot in the garden. We initially tried throwing water on it but it didnt have any effect. Im afraid to say that the only thing that seemed to work was physical violence. We are serious cat lovers and would nevery do anything to hurt any other animal but we were afraid this other cat would actually scare ours away completely as it was getting ridiculous. The next time it came into our garden, my DH went outside with a broom handle and gave it a swift bang on the back. He didnt really hurt him as the cat was able to run and climb the wall and then deliberate as to whether he should come back or not but he didnt.... As I said, we would never resort to violence with animals but this other cat was very vicious and was seriously terrorising our poor little one!

how do you manage your outdoor lighting for the garden? We only have a weak outdoor light at the moment and want to get in something stronger now that the weather is getting nice. We are renting so do not wish to have to pay for expensive electrical installation. I have seen some villas in the Springs with what looks like strings of Xmas lights with large bulbs and they seem to provide a lot of light... Otherwise, any other suggestions please? TIA!

Hi all, I had my anomaly scan done in FMC but only because the lady who normally does the scans in my clinic in HCC was on leave so you can get it done elsewhere apart from Nine of FMC (sorry TDB). Maybe the position of the baby did not allow them to measure everything? Why dont you call the clinic up and ask for a copy of the scan results as you should receive this. At least that way, it will put your mind at rest... I would imagine that your doctor would have noticed on your file if you had not had the anomaly scan carried out as it is an important one. I would just call them to check!

Well ladies, how are you all feeling today? TDB sorry to hear that you havent been well this week. I have been having BH too but didnt realise thats what it was until the Dr pointed it out to me LOL! I just noticed tightening of my tummy but it wasnt painful at all. Not sleeping too well - i have so many things in the bed at the moment LOL! A rolled up towel ubove my hip, a pillow in between my legs and a wedge under my bump.... plus am getting lots of cramps in the night so when I have to move, all of this apparatus has to move with me ... it would be comical if I wasnt tired ha ha! FQ, our 20 week scan was a 4D and we were having it anyway as it was a big scan. We had it in the Fetal Medical Centre and we got no good images at that stage. All was well thank goodness so that was the main thing. However, had doppler this week and we got some amazing images of babys face! Its unreal what they can do! Perhaps you could just ask your Dr. to get some 4D images during one of the routing bigger scans at some stage...? Roll on the weekend!!!

Thanks SADubai, This will be the first time we have anyone full time and Im concerned about the awkwardness of getting used to having someone there full time... I know we will need to get over this eventually but I would like to take care of the baby as much as possible myself for the first few months while I can so yes, this lady will probably be more involved in looking after the house initially but also to observe how I do things with our little one so she knows how things work for when I go back to work after 3 months. Will there be enough for her to do initially if Im at home also....? Im really a newbie at this so any advice would be gratefully received! TIA!

SM, I looked into this in June and when I went to see RERA they told me that the landlord had to give a minimum of one years notice dated from the END of your CURRENT contract - so say for example, if your current contract runs out on October 31st, the landlord has to give you one years notice from November 1st. Im not sure if this has changed recently but that's what I was informed just a few months ago...

Thanks SS but I also would not feel comfortable in this. I will have a minimum of 3 months maternity leave after the birth so will be present too.... Perhaps I wasnt clear in my message below - should I make sure to have someone on board before the birth (knowing that I will be home for at least 3 months) or would I be time enough getting someone in while Im on maternity leave? TIA!

Have a couple of months to go yet but we do not want a live in and I have heard that live outs are a little more difficult to come by. Ideally, I would like this person to be available to complete a first aid course and perhaps other courses too (but I still need to look into this). I have heard that its best to have the person start with you 2 weeks beforehand so that they can learn the ropes before the baby arrives - what do you think? Is this a good idea? Any pointers gratefully received, thanks!

Thanks ladies, MrsCB, fingers crossed it goes well. Yes it was definitely the glucose challenge test. I have the results in writing. I was told to get up, eat breakfast and then come to the clinic 2 hours later to drink the drink and they took my blood test 1 hour later. I have a friend in AUH who had the same procedure a couple of weeks ago so obviously some doctor's do it differently...?

Hello all, MrsCB, so sorry to hear that the GT didnt go well. Fingers crossed it will go better for you this time. Did you eat something before doing it? I was told to eat a normal breakfast on the morning of the test, 2 hours before doing it. Maybe that would help? Had a scan last night and we saw our little bubs face for the 1st time! She has been very shy with all of our other scans and we have never been able to see her face but we got a good, clear view last night! WOW! Going on for 31 weeks now so will be soon to single digit countdown! How exciting is that!!! Hope you are all doing well x
