Thanks ladies, After further investigation it seems that the machine is filling and running but will not empty.... we have tried changing the pipes (which resulted in the maching now leaking, which it never did before LOL) but not sure how to make it empty... We thought maybe drain cleaner but not sure if you can put this into a machine and also, if its not emptying in the first place, then that wont work anyway... Oh the joys.....so now we have a dishwasher that doesnt work AND wet floors :)

This may be a silly comment but in our last place I didnt notice so much humidity whereas in our new place, the humidity upstairs seems to be very noticeable. I wonder if this is because the house had been empty for a few weeks and needs a good airing....? Hard to know about the AC really... on or off.....

Thanks so much DC and again, apologies for your loss. I have just seen this now. The problem is that for the moment, she doesnt seem to think she needs help but everyone else around her is so worried. We are going to give it another try this week to see if she will see someone or even if she is interested in speaking with someone who has gone through something similar...... Its very difficult to see someone go through something like this without being able to do anything to help. Thanks again

Ive just copied and pasted this from an email that I usually send to family and friends when they ask about Paris: Im a bit rusty on the Gai Paris hotel tourist information but the last time we were there we stayed in a hotel which was on Avenue Des Ternes. This is one of the main streets that comes off the Etoile where the Arc de Triomphe is. Its a really nice area and is within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe, les Champs Elysees etc. It was pretty decent and very affordable. Also a street that has some good hotels (but can't remember the names) is a street called Bld Gouvion St Cyr. Its about a 10 minute walk from the Arc de Triomphe. It always depends on your budget really doesnt it..... A really nice area is around Boulevard St. Michel, Jardin de Luxembourg etc. Its not far from Notre Dame and the Pantheon - this is called the Latin Quarter. There is a little area there called la Rue Mouffetard which is really nice and they used to do a market there on a saturday morning. they have really nice quirky little shops there so its def worth a visit. not far from Bld St Michel is another lovely area - touristy but has some lovely little streets called Boulevard St. Germain. its lovely there to stroll around. another MUST is to go up to the Sacre Coeur and MontMartre. There is a beautiful view from up there and again, there are lovely cobbled streets and really nice shops, restaurants etc. It would be another nice area to stay but i think it would prob be very expensive. its not far from the Moulin Rouge actually but you have to be careful with hotels in this area coz its the red light district so you could get a good price on a hotel but it may very well be a dump so be careful if you decide on a hotel there. There is another show on the Champs Elysee which is very similar to the Moulin Rouge and a much more economical version called Le Lido. I have seen this and it was excellent so if you want to see a cabaret but MR is too expensive try this one. We went years ago but it was very very good! http://www.lido.fr/ there is another area in the 3rd called the Marais. This is the "gay" neighborhood in paris and again, it has lovely quirky little streets and is worth a stroll around. i would def recommend the Louvre. if you like museums another popular one is the Musee D'Orsay. there is also one called the Centre Georges Pompidou which is a museum of culture and art and is quite funky. Its at chatelet. I would recommend going to the top of the Arc De Triomphe simply to look at the madness of the drivers driving around the Etoile which is the roundabout where the Arc De Triomphe is located. Bear in mind that this roundabout is one of the only places in the world where if you have an accident, no matter what the cause, both parties are liable 50/50! The sight of the traffic alone is worth all those steps :) If you are a Doors fan, I would suggest going to Pere Lachaise which is a graveyard in Paris where lots of famous ppl are buried including Jim Morrisson. Edith Piaf and Oscar Wilde are also buried there. Despite the fact that its a graveyard its a nice place to walk around :) If you haven't done it already, go to the top of the Eiffel Tower! If its a weekend day, there can be lots of queues so you may want to do this on a week day if you can to cut down on the queues. if you have time to go outside of Paris I would suggest a visit to Versailles Palace especially if the weather is nice coz the gardens out there are lovely. there is a metro stop called Oberkampf on lines 5 and 9 and this street is full of little bars and restaurants that are really buzzing at the weekend - worth a visit on a weekend night if you want a buzzing little street! i think all of that should keep you busy :) paris is an amazing city. having a drink in one of the cafes on the champs elysees and just watch the world going by is an amazing experience but be careful where you go and check out the prices before you sit down as they love to absolutely fleece tourists with prices. for example, having a drink at the bar is one price, sitting on the terrace and having a drink is another price :) more expensive obviously :) 99% of restaurants will have menus outside and it is perfectly acceptable to look at the menu before going in so don't let them try to usher you in before you have had a chance to look at the menu. many restaurants will do menus or formules which is a set menu with starter, main course and dessert for a set price. they are generally good deals. there are lots of lovely little restaurants really typically french on that street La Rue Mouffetard I mentioned and prices are generally pretty good - or were when I was there. just a couple of things - be very very careful with your money and belongings on the metro. pick pocketing is everywhere. be careful in the area of the moulin rouge if you go there and also an area called chatelet can be a little iffy so be careful with your stuff in these areas and always on the metro. have a look on a website called www.booking.com for a hotel as they are excellent. I hope this helps - like I said, just some indications of my favourite places in Paris for tourists! Enjoy - Paris is fabulous!

Our contract states that it must be in the same state as it was handed over to us in - so I presume this means painting as it was freshly painted when we moved in.

Dubaistar, just wondering but is that "written" anywhere please? We are in a similar situation but I know our LL will not take our word for it on that and will require some written proof to prove it.... :(

Thanks Sizzles - I saw on here that they quoted Dhs4500 for a 3 b/r villa which I actually find very expensive..... Is it just me? Is that what we should expect to pay for a 2 b/r?

Thanks for your replies. Our cats are more house cats than anything - their food and litter are inside and they actually run back into the house to use the litter rather than go outside! :) Habit I suppose, as they spent the first 2 years of their lives in an apartment. They are also quite shy of people they dont know so they will run back into the house again if eg, the gardener comes in to water the lawns. Also they are only out for a couple of hours in the evening at the moment - this may change if we move to this villa as they may not want to venture out for the first little while....

Ooooh noooo SS - sorry to hear you are having a bit of a nightmare. Our last landlord provided us with a copy of passport, which was reassuring. Is this normal practise and can we do the same with this one?

I would try to get rid of this cat as soon as possible. We had a similar problem with a large bully cat who would come into our garden and really bully our 2 cats. It got to the stage where it would wake us in the morning as he would sit outside our patio doors and growl in at our 2 who were petrified inside! One time, this horrible cat even chased one of ours into the house when the door was open, up the stairs and under the bed! It took us AGES to get it out of the damn house! I tried everything! Spraying water, throwing things at it, Jeyes fluid on the walls - everything but nothing ever kept it away. One morning I went out as there was a horrible fight going on and he had backed our bigger cat into a corner and was swiping at it! I went over with a slipper and tried to shoo it away and he scratched me badly. From that point on, no mercy! Now believe me when I say I am a HUGE animal lover and I would not hurt anything but in this case, he really was terrorising our cats, was trying to hurt them and had scratched me badly. So the next time he came into the garden, my husband took a broom and smacked him over the back with it. The cat yelped but ran away. He stayed away for a few days and when he reappeared a few days later, I did the same thing. I was shaking after it as I hated the thought of hurting him but he has never set foot in our garden since then. I have seen him in front of the house on a regular basis (so he wasnt hurt) but he has never set foot in our garden again. So.... am sorry to say, but perhaps force is sometimes the only way with these bully animals especially if they are hurting you or your cats..... I know this may attract lots of negative responses but the welfare of my cats was my priority!

I dont live there but its quite close to the Meadows Spinneys so you have those shops quite close by. And it would be the closest Springs to Media City as you come out very close to the flyover that would take to to DMC / DIC. No idea on pools etc sorry.

Not sure if you are close to Lamcy Plaza but there is a Japanese shop in there called Daiso and it has everything! I bought lots of little bottles just for this reason - very hand for shampoos, conditioners, face wash etc. And most things in that shop are Dhs7 :)

Oh wow DXB Cinderella, Thanks so much for your response. This really is very helpful. Do you mind me asking if you are in front of one of the larger lakes with the fountain or one of the smaller lakes? The ones we have seen so far are facing the smaller lakes. This really is good to know - thanks again for your detailed message!

Thanks dramaqn, I never considered the dog walkers - may not be the best if we have 2 cats... The lakes that these particular villas are facing are actually the smaller lakes so do not have fountains so Im afraid the stench may be an issue... I didnt know if there are fish in the water, that this has an effect on mosquitos? You learn something new every day :) Tnx again
