I use it and it's great! If you want to know who is making a profit out of the advertising why don't you just ask the school? They may however tell you it's none of your business. Of course it's my business. I'm paying the school and this is basically the only means of communication now from the school. Aren't any of you curious people? The communicator is provided to the school free of charge. It's the provider who controls and profits from advertising

Education is not very high on the list of priorities here it seems. Asti, I think that's a little unfair. Most people know how things can be on the roads here. Those of us with long memories will remember during a rain/flooding session once, people were trapped in their cars for around 3 hours on Al Khail/Emirates Road. What the government is trying to avoid is young children being trapped on school buses in a similar situation. There is a lot of traffic on our roads, closing even one of them leads to a lot of disruption, nobody knows how things are going to be tomorrow. Those of us worried about education can easily set up a day of homework ;) I couldn't agree more.

On YouTube you can subscribe to PlaybackTVChannel. They show the episodes but they are at an angle. You can always get a VPN for 35 dirhams a month. It's great and hubby can watch his sport live

We've been twice in the past 3 weeks and have always been charged 30 dirhams in the car park across the road from the entrance. I told the guys this was crazy as it was so dangerous for the children to cross the road (especially as it's on a bend) He just shrugged and said that's what he was told to charge. You can park in the safer car park where the entrance is for a small fee of 50 dirhams!! A bit excessive for parking

Well, just asked hubby (knowing the response) what we're doing for valentine's day. [b'>"We're not friggin going out it's too friggin expensive. If you want to take me anywhere you can take me down the Boston Bar for a few pints"[/b'> I seriously wouldn't want to do anything else. Well, maybe Loca instead of the Boston Bar.

Dr Elsa and Dr Ibrahim from the City always come highly recommended on here. I saw Dr Ibrahim with my last pregnancy and he was lovely. A great listener and absolute professional. I use Dr Christian Jozsa from the HealthbayPoly Clinic now as he delivered my first (couldn't find him previously) and he too is great and delivers at the City. Good luck and don't stress

You will get so many different opinions here..... My humble opinion is dont do that - you can make appointments until you know when you need them. You might take weeks to fall pregnant, you might take years, in which case the Dr you want may not even be here by then I would look into Drs you may like and make a short list after doing your research and then just wait until you are pregnant and see who has time to see you. See what options are close to where you live and go from there, you do not want to be living in Jebel Ali and going to DHCC for checks for example as it is tiring later in pregnancy I personally went to Genesis clinic in DHCC for my scans and then Dr Britt at City for checks at 20, 24, 28, 32, 34, 36, 38, 39 week checks. I agree with this. Let nature do its job first and then decide. This will give you time to look through this forum and find out where is better for you. The Dr's who are in popular demand usually have a 1-2 month waiting list anyway so once you find out you can still get an appointment with them in time for your NT scan at 10-13 weeks and continue with them from then on. You can always see another doctor in your first trimester to confirm the pregnancy if you can't wait that long. Good Luck

Try calling Al Safa Vets and explain the situation 04 348 3799. If their fee's are too high just ring round. I'm sure someone will take a look at the baby without charging too much.

We're in a very old 3 bed villa in Al Bada'a with no pool (close to Jumeirah) and although we only pay 120 Arenco are now asking for 150-160 for them. Just thought I'd post as you may want to re-think your area of choice or maybe somehow increasing your budget. Have you considered out in JVC or JVT?

There is a shop on the corner of Plant street/Satwa Road called classic city. They used to stock lots of wings for 7dhs a piece. However, the wings weren't there just before Christmas but this might have been because they were re-stocking. I tried to ask the assistant but he didn't understand English. It might be worth popping in and asking and also looking in all the shops around there. The wings were on the 2nd floor with all the toys. It's a bit cluttered. Good Luck

I told her everything we talked about here in the most gentle way possible. She seemed a bit affected by what I said and nodded the entire time. However, she's asked for 2-3 days to get back to me. I will keep you all posted. Whatever she decides you mustn't get stressed over it, certainly not in your condition, it's not worth it. If she decides to lose her job over her dad or boyfriend then so be it. These things happen to the nicest of people (like yourself) unfortunately and it's just part of becoming an employer. I hope all goes well and you sort it out.

I'm still at a bit of a loss as to what the issue is? Maybe I'm just not getting the original post. It's ok to have different sets of friends who don't necessarily get on. I have them but I don't allow them to drag me into their disagreements. If there is no malice then no problem. If your friend feels uncomfortable then she should speak up and not play games like she is assuming other friend is doing.

We go quite often and it's lovely. Very relaxed, a good selection of food and bevvies and so cheap if you use the entertainer vouchers. It's not a huge selection but everything you can have is lovely. If you're a regular at Al Qasr, Al Muna, basically the 5* brunches you may be disappointed.

Congratulations! I'm due late august (I think...we've not had dating yet). I've had one ultrasound and going for another in a week and a half but after that will hold off until I'm 12 weeks and that's when the tests begin I think... Mollydxb, I'm just wondering why the nuchal fold transclucency scan is needed here, just I understood that it's used so people can make an informed decision about continuing the pregnancy if the foetus is affected but that's not an option here is it? Or did I completely misunderstand the function of it? You don't have to have the NT scan if you don't want to. I guess that's why it isn't covered on insurance. There are many that would not continue with a pregnancy if they found out at this stage the child would be a down's baby. Sad but a fact

We live in a 3 bed terraced villa in Al Bada's (the old end and an old villa) with a small garden and no grass. We only have the AC on from April - November as we don't get sunlight in the house. My DEWA bill currently is 1200Dhs a month. In the summer months it goes up to 2800Dhs. I used to live in an apartment not far away and my monthly bills (give or take 50 dirhams) were 500Dhs. It really does vary over here. For example, my friend lives 15 minutes down the road in a villa twice the size with a lawn covered garden and she pays less than I do. our bills are almost exactly the same! around 1000 AED in the winter, up to 2500/2800 in the summer. and that's with us having a well under the house that waters the garden! it's the AC that's the killer. when i lived in an apartment i dodged the housing fee (5% of total annual rent, paid monthly) for four years. my bills then were no more than 100 AED! happy days. Hi Kelly, I only just realised a few weeks ago that my lovely maid only knew of 1 setting on the washing machine (3 hour cycle) I have now shown her the 30 minute wash that I only ever used. I asked her also to cut down on the washing as she was washing clothes that I'd only worn for 2 hours (my fault as I didn't put them away) and our new years challenge was to get my DEWA bill down to under 1000Dhs. Well today I get a DEWA bill for 930Dhs!!!!!!!!!! Only 2 weeks into our household challenge!! Never thought I'd say this but I'm looking forward already to my next DEWA bill. I hope you're enjoying motherhood :) It's pretty awesome isn't it

Congratulatons! They will do a Nuchal Fold Translucency scan when you go at 13 weeks, this is for the early detection of Down's Syndrome. Nothing to worry about. They can only do this by ultrasound between 11-14 weeks so you are well within the time frame. If you have any doubts why don't you check with the clinic/hospital to make sure they will be doing one. They'll be doing a scan anyway so it won't make any difference even if they don't have you down for an NT scan. If you have insurance and have maternity covered you may find that the NT scan isn't covered on your insurance. I have very good cover with bupa but for some reason the NT scans are not covered and they are not cheap. My last pregnancy I was charged 2000Dhs and this one 1200Dhs. Just thought I'd mention it. All the best

Hi All How's everyone getting on? A lot of you must be at the 20 week stage by now? How are you feeling? Did any of you find out the ***? I'm waiting till it pops out. I'm a sucker for a surprise. I had the flutters back in week 16 but now I have the full feeling of the kick which is just fantastic! It's brought back so many memories from when I carried DD. Is anyone else delivering at the City?

Between this thread and the other one about breast feeding in public, no wonder mums feel so much pressure nowadays and feel judged upon, it's the quality of care after the baby is born that matters - a loving bond + a loving mum = a happy loved baby and everything else is just (white) noise to be ignored. Natural vs c-section Natural vs gas/air/epidural Diapers vs cloth nappies Formula vs BF CIO vs co-sleeping Glamazon skinny mum in pre-pregnancy jeans vs huge cow months after birth Argh it never ends. As long as baby is well looked after, what else matters? Absolutely right! There are ladies out there that are petrified of giving birth naturally so why not have a C-section. Nobody should be stressed out while giving birth, neither mother or baby. I was natural and all was great but I was frightened of having a C-section so all worked out well. We're all different and that's what makes us wonderful!

I had a natural birth in Dubai and it was perfectly fine. I did make it very clear to my Dr that I did NOT want a C-section unless it was absolutely necessary. He was great, very understanding and got me through everything with ease. I only had 2 shots of pethidine throughout which was great as after the birth it didn't take long at all before I was feeling good again. I do have a high pain threshold though. I would recommend natural to everyone who can do it naturally. It's amazing!

As angry, frustrated or annoyed as you are I wouldn't get stressed about it. It is what it is and it sounds like she won't change her mind so I'd release her and move on or just wait until her contract finishes and don't renew. If her friends are off all weekend and she's doing a computer course it sounds like she'll be looking for an office job anyway soon. If she feels confident enough to give up her job just because she wants the weekends to herself then fair enough in my opinion. I would never work weekends either and if I was asked to or else? I'd quit. You obviously treat your help really well so you'll have no problem filling the position with a more willing to babysit lady. Good Luck

Izzy's right. If the dent is small the garage will suck it out with a special machine and at very little cost. Don't call the police out for a small dent because they won't appreciate it. Call them first, explain what happened and they will probably ask you to go to the station.

Hi all, Hope you've all had a good Christmas (those who celebrate) and have managed to relax. 15 weeks down and 25 to go.................... I think I bragged too much about my perfect pregnancy with DD as this one is causing me a bit of grief along the way but baby is good so very happy. My doctor very kindly printed me a 4d scan when I went in the other day with stomach cramps and it was amazing to see little one snuggled up down there. Already looking forward to going back in a couple of weeks. Happy New Year to you all :)

I had the same thing with my DD and it was the banana. 2 days after I stopped giving it to her she finally went. She can only eat half a banana a day even now (4 years) and even then, on the odd occasion, she can suffer with constipation. Always go for the one's that are starting to blacken in the stores. Sounds gross but this will help. Good Luck

Your husband seems to have been very open with you here, apart from the coffee invitation. I don't know what your husband does but is there any possibility that he could be trying to poach her for work? Is she the teacher or assistant? I know a lot of the assistants in DD's nursery were looking for office jobs for more money as they were paid very little. I only ask this as my BDM colleague often gets asked on appointments by clients only to be offered a job.

They dont call or deliver to home address if it's send through normal mail, do you have a tracking number? You can track parcels through emirates post using the tracking number online, & a shipment from UK using normal mail takes 5-6 weeks to arrive. I had 2 shipments from the States, they only mentioned the home address with no p.o.box number or phone, it took me one month to track them but I couldnt find them without the shipment tracking number, they were there at the post office for 30 days, but everytime I went there they werent able to track them until the sender provided me with the tracking number. edited by wickedangel_78 on 15/12/2013 OK, This is great. She's just trying to find her receipt now with the shipping number. She posted it on the 1st December so it's going to be a while yet anyway. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Really appreciated

I am not sure they are for sale ;) not sure Santa would be too impressed Elf's are magical creatures that belong in the north pole with Santa & Co. You can't buy them, only imagine them. However, if you wish to impersonate one you will find a costume in Mr Ben's. Merry Christmas :)
