Hi friends, I am a doctor from India, residing in UAE with my husband and my 2 yrs old son. At present I am not working but looking for jobs with convinient working hours. I am a bit anxious to leave my son in a daycare for long hours. but I think its time to start my career. Are there any working mothers with kids of this age enrolled in a nursery/day care? any advice or more of a kind motivation would be very useful for me. Thank you. I went back to work and put DD in nursery from 6 months from 9-4pm. She loved it! There was around 4 other children who were in the nursery for the same amount of time (10 in total) and although they now go to different schools we have still stayed in touch and they see each other once a month on average. Her nursery years were packed full of fun and laughter and she made fantastic friends as well as being cared for by lovely ladies. She is now settled well in school and is doing really well. I have no regrets in sending my daughter to nursery. Nanny's work for some people but this is and always has been a no for me so nursery was the only option. Happy working mum here and good luck with the job hunting

My little boy will be so sad if schools are closed tomorrow, he has his outfit prepared for National Day and hes asleep now. Parents are doing presentations as well. ETA I have seen the twitter feed as well. Haven't heard from the school though. edited by Alismum on 27/11/2013 My daughters will be really disappointed too. Tomorrow would have been a really fun day at school and the celebration would have been even bigger. So true. DD will be gutted. She was so excited about school tomorrow and the celebrations could have been a double wammy!

Definitely acceptable. It's a long procedure to go to the changing rooms only to find it was a waste of a journey especially in Dubai where the toilets are never close by. I don't see why it makes anyone cringe, your not sniffing anything, mind your own business. Even before I was a mum it never bothered me, you do what you have to do and its as simple as that. If you don't like it look away or get a table away from any potential bum sniffers. But what if the bum sniffers choose to sit around your table? Having been a bum sniffer myself 2 years back for 2 years I would have appreciated a fresh nose on some occasions to confirm the crime as after a while it all starts to smell the same.

Pre children I would have said absolutely not, that's disgusting. Post children I say, yes it's fine and far better than sticking your finger down there and getting a nasty surprise. Have you ever read Hannibal? Considering how often my children fart, if I took them to the bathroom to check their nappy every time I smelt something I wouldn't get to eat a thing :D :) Very funny and true

I have a vicious pet with behavioural problems and am about to give birth.... could someone pls adopt it? Do you want a kitten? :) ha ha ha I'm never going to rehome it am I?

DD's school has informed us all that we can collect early if we want to but they are staying open anyway for those who can't collect. It's quite a good idea for those who have to travel a long distance to get to school. Drive safely

Welcome to the new girls I’ve not yet said hi to, Gitte_82 & Mrs Champ …… really nice to see more ladies here! Gitte – another Fakih pregnancy, that’s 3 of us now, you, me & Mrs Champ!! Well my update is not brilliant, I had a massive bleed on Sunday, I’m talking a full on flood that was the brightest red & pooled in the bottom of the loo (far TMI but hey it was traumatic). I immediately left work in a haze of tears having spoken to the doc who told me to come in he’d see & scan me straight away. I work in AD so the drive back to DXB was not the most sedate nor pleasant I have to say!! Doc did say I could go to the AD clinic but I don’t know where the clinic is and I don’t know AD so couldn’t face trying to find it, nor see a doc I didn’t know. The scan (THANK GOODNESS) showed the baby is fine, and in fact this was the first time since my scan a week previous that we saw weeny arms and legs! It measured a whole centimetre larger than the previous week and the heartbeat was strong at 183 bpm. The total relief was like nothing on earth. The bleed was caused by a slight separation of the placenta from the uterus wall, where blood collects in the gap and clots then finally releases ……I cannot tell you how terrifying it was, I honestly thought it was all over. BUT the doc did not seem too worried, I’ve been told to take it very easy, no exercise whatsoever, no s#x but bed rest not necessary. Having come off the cyclogest & the white tablets just 4 days previous he’s put me back on mega progesterone doses in the form of an oral tablet 3 times daily and an injection (Gestone) every other day that I have to have in my bum (ouchy – but worth it!!). Back in 2 weeks (which will be Sun 24th) to check progress and hopefully see an improvement in the separation. I have of course Googled it like mad and I think it’s called a Subchronic Haematoma, apparently is not that uncommon and in most cases resolves itself with no further complications. Couldnt find any info on what may cause it, and I read on one site the cause is actually unknown. Trauma I could have done without really but baby is fine which is the most important thing. Carla – Ive been chuckling over the the pups / b##bs references – my there are SO many terms for b##bs its mind boggling!! :-) Also, thanks for the dating clarification :-) Virgo – that’s rubbish re your gyne! Hope you find someone you’re just as happy with soon! Molly – I’m also feeling the size of a house……I don’t think it will be much longer before I relent and buy some bigger clothes. So, roll on 2nd trimester eh……I soooooooo can’t wait to get tri 1 out of the way!! Taking the dating from Sundays scan I’m 10 wks today …..woop woop! Hope everyone else is well!! Look forward to hearing your updates. LLx Oh Loopy!!! You poor poor thing! and you drove all the way from AD not knowing! You brave woman. Thank goodness everything is ok. Keep us informed x got fingers crossed that everything goes well for you. I'm no longer constipated but full of wind!! So still a big bloater. Take it easy

Congrats also Mrs Champs and welcome! I haven't heard the use of the word "pups" for b00bs in a long time :) Smiling a lot. I've also been suffering with the constipation and it's awful. My stomach is so bloated that I'm already wearing my work maternity trousers! I took a load of lactulose on Friday and it helped. I can only really take this though when I have a 3 hour window spare for obvious reasons. Sorry if it's TMI but that's how it is. Try and drink as much water as possible too, that should help. I'm a working mum (office) and I'm the same Carla1. It's a great distraction. Mrs Champs - great idea to wait and tell your mum when you're home. I wish my mum was coming over this year so I could tell her face to face. If not then Skype will have to do :) Enjoy your weekend

WOW you ladies have really been through it. I don't really know how you've coped. I feel very very lucky to have DD. I think I'll be delivering at the City Hospital as I'm seeing Dr Christian Jozsa (Delivered DD) at Health Bay Polyclinic Not 100% sure. I'm a little like yourselves and just trying to get past the next few weeks. Have a good weekend

You can buy one at the ballet centre in Jumeirah. They do lots of sizes. Sorry, I can't remember the price but I bought one so they couldn't have been expensive The other place I noticed sold them was a stall in Festival City just near the entrance to Ikea.

Morning Starsouthern, She said the Arabic contract will be a standard contract for anyone who has a visa under TECOM. There is no reason at all that the school can't provide her with a copy of her contract with TECOM (Arabic) and the English contract between her and the school. If the HR department are refusing this then she suggests she speaks to her direct boss or even the headmaster. If this isn't possible for whatever reason then it is the Labour Department she needs to complain to. She also said if you are having these kinds of problems then she should consider leaving the school anyway as it all sounds a little odd and suggests something is wrong. HTH

Congrats Gitte! Not long now before you can brag about your news! So exciting. I can't wait to tell my DD and mum. Thinking of leaving it a little later and sending mum an xmas card with pic of the scan. However, I might not be able to hold it in. Hope you're feeling better soon. No she wasn't given a copy of the Arabic contract, yes she has asked for it and has been refused. Hense why I'm asking on the forum where she can go to seek advice. That's a bit naughty of them. I'll ask my friend who used to work in HR at a school (4 years ago though) Will try and get back tonight

Thanks for the detailed reply, LL! was just thinking, instead of completely stopping your Cyclogest, why not reduce them slowly? maybe a week with twice a day and then a week with once a day and see if you do not have any negative symptoms (hopefully). Just an advise, as i suppose you are a bit nervous abt stopping it completely or maybe shift to the oral medicine, Duphaston? OFCOURSE, only after discussing with your doctor. Yes, my doctor would just be doing a quick abdominal scan to re-assure me that HB is there. She has warned me that it might not be a very clear picture to see the growth etc. but just a way to sooth my nerves! As i do not have a proper appointment with her on Saturday and would just be going in for an injection. So ladies, decided then.....8.3 or 8.4 weeks mean we have completed our 8 weeks and are 3 or 4 days into our 9th! Come on symptoms, hit in....so i know, all is good! ;-) Hi Carla, I'm sure your Dr has already mentioned this but the scan is a lot clearer in the first weeks if you have an internal. I know it doesn't sound pleasant but I had mine last week and it was sooo clear. Saw the heart pounding away :) Just a thought x

I delivered in the American Hospital 4 years ago and the midwife there was superb. A lovely Yorkshire lady and I can't remember her name now! How annoying. Anyway, I would have been more than happy for her to give birth to DD as she was medically trained in the UK and knew exactly what she was doing. It just so happened that Doctors shift had just started so got him to catch DD.

A friend who is a teacher in a BC school is wanting to know her rights and the regular labor law doesn't apply to her situation. Does anyone know where/who she can go to seek advice? TIA Does it not apply because she is a teacher? I though the LL applied to all employees of the UAE ( except those in FZ as they are different) There are different amendments for teachers regarding renewal of contract, classroom hours, working hours, notice periods. The school are refusing to give her a copy of her contract so she can't use that so wants to know where she can go. Does she not have a copy of the contract she signed? If not I can't understand why she can't get a copy. Has she asked for a copy?

The thing I find most amusing when pregnant is when people look at your bump, then look at you for a while (up and down) and tell you "you're definitely having a boy, I mean for sure, I can just tell, you're all out in front" I had this sooooo much with my 1st and SHE is now 4. I do love how well you are treated by the general public when you're pregnant. I don't think I ever queued for anything when I had bump

I need to have a disciplinary chat with someone about his lack of performance at work. He speaks broken English and I need to make sure I can explain the seriousness of everything to him in terms he can understand. I am quite nervous about the meeting as he annoys me to death and obviously I need to keep this irritation under control and remain professional. He's had many "chats" but they wash over him. This one is the final one and I can honestly see myself going into overdrive about all his problem areas. The person I want to be would be calm and unemotional and somehow keep the man on-side. My impulse is to have a colleague handle the meeting but then I'll never learn how to handle difficult situations. If you've done something like this before, can you give any advice on how I can keep my personal dislike contained and yet explain to him how serious the situation is and further breaches of processes won't be tolerated? Could you have another colleague present in the meeting who speaks his language? Just to confirm he understands? Also, confirm the conversation in the meeting by writing up afterwards in both languages? I have exactly the same problem as you in my job but I don't have the authority to sack him.

If I do this at xmas I'd probably do 2 so I can have my turkey sarnies the next day. If you do consider, they take 45 mins on 380 and must rest for 10 to keep juices in

I too had a great pregnancy and birth first time round. Labour from start to finish was 33 hours but 24 hours of this were light contractions (a little like period pains). I tried gas and air but it didn't do anything so I gave up as the pains weren't that bad. I do have a high pain threshold though. The contractions started getting a bit more serious after 24 hours so I took a shot of pethidine. This didn't stop the pain but eased it a lot. The shot lasts for 3 hours. When it started to wear off (3 hours later) I asked for another shot but nurse was hesitant. 5 mins later and a nurse shift change I got my 2nd shot of pethidine. 45 mins before I gave birth Dr came in, took a look, saw I was full dilated so broke my waters for me. As soon as he did this I felt baby making it's way out. I didn't have to do much pushing as she was coming out all by herself. The pain was quite intense but at this stage I just wanted to see my baby. It was tough pushing her head out and at one point I tried to push her back in as I thought I couldn't do it, but once she was out I was numb, amazed, relieved, excited, in love, there's just no words to describe it. I needed 2 stiches but couldn't feel him do this. I was too busy falling in love with my girl and asking hubby if he was ok! He was very pale

DD started in Sept and I can't really fault it. I didn't expect certain things to be finished on time but they have been and everything has ran smoothly which is really what I need with my job. Communication is great, teachers are lovely and always willing to have a chat when they can. The school does start a little later than others which works for me perfectly but may not others (if got to drive to AD for example) Victory Heights is also lovely. 2 of my friends send their kids there and they love it!
