Ha ha ha I was telling my very good friend back in England about this site and that it can be really useful for newbie's and great for info on anything as the ladies are really helpful. He couldn't resist but go on and have a look at the forum. His words were something along the lines of..... "It's really good actually but some of those women are just vile!" and he insisted that they were probably men posting just for laugh.

There's a soft play area in the J3 mall on Al Wasl Road that I think would be good. DD has been to 2 parties and it's very laid back. The kids just play and if you want to play a few games and sing happy birthday there is a small area with tables and chairs for them. Parents can just sit back and watch if they want. Worth a look

For the reasons you've mentioned for moving I couldn't think of a nicer place to live. Great place for a fresh start. Spend some time waltzing around Satwa in the evening. It clears my head :)

I sent them an e-mail and they replied the next day stating registrations would open on the 1st September, they provided available class dates and told me to come down to the centre with my 100Dhs reg fee which we did yesterday. I have only heard good things about the Ballet Centre so even though it may seem run down on the outside, inside seems to be functioning as it should. HTH

Update- She returned this morning saying she made a mistake by leaving but she has had health issues and problems back home I explained how silly it was and she cried that she needs to work n make Monet for her family I told her I d give her a last chance and I wrote down some terms and conditions ( same ones I discussed with her on day 1) She asked me how much I paid for her visa etc. Then I told her to think about my conditions if she wants to stay She told me after two hours that she can't return the money so she wants us to send her back home I said ok at that moment That's all! I m confused why she returned if she wants to go back home? If it's this month salary I mnot gonna pay her if I am to deport her What do you think? Is she manipulating me to get what she wants? Because she knows I am on my own just paid all visa fees? Her English is not good so not sure if she understood me well ? What is the best course of action? I ve been manipulated before by the other maid they make use of me being a single mommy Pls advise This doesn't sound good. If she needs the money for family then her going home surely isn't the answer. Is it possible she could be bullying you for a pay increase or seeking your approval for her to work in the evening illegally? I don't expect the "Cousin" is in away way related to her by the way. Even if you are desperate you must not show this to her. If she wants to go back home just start the process of cancelling etc...... This behaviour is unacceptable by any employee whether it be home staff or office staff. The trust has gone so it's time to part company. edited by Mollydxb on 03/09/2013

Ha ha ha Mine was delivered 2 days ago and while I thought "What a complete waste! I mean a WHOLE catalogue!" I took it out of it's packaging last night, tootled off to bed with a cup of tea and re-designed my bedroom. I think maybe someone over ordered on the catalogues.

I really do feel for you right now. It all sounds a bit dodgy to me. I would suggest to the "cousin" that he brings her back to you otherwise you call the police. Give him a deadline. I also wouldn't settle until I had spoken to her. There is no reason why you can't talk to her unless she has had her voice box removed. If this was me personally I would pop down to immigration and seek advise from the ladies there. I found them to be intimidating at first but once you get talking they are very helpful and informative.

If you're going to buy new then buy at the end of a month and haggle as much as you possibly can. Managers are desperate to reach targets and will offer you amazing discounts to put their numbers in, especially if you are looking at buying a car that's already in their stock.

We bought new 18 months ago and got a 12 month loan with our bank. We put down 30%. Can't remember whether that helped bring the payments down or not to be honest but I guess it would a bit. We wanted our payments to be around the same as what we were spending on car rental so we wouldn't see a dent in our monthly expenses and are now so glad we did. It's just nice knowing that if we leave we'll be able to sell and take a bit of cash back with us. We pay out what we HAVE to pay out (listed below) but the beauty of a new is the manufacturers warranty. Hassle free motoring for 3 years. Just what I wanted as the 5 year old Jeep we had prior was in and out of the garage all the time costing us from 50aed one month to 5000aed another.

DXB AGAIN May I ask what rates Natwest are doing at the minute on 75% mortgage? I'm sorry to ask but I just can't be bothered to complete their on-line forms and wait 7 days for a call etc.... We did this whole process 4 years ago with the Halifax and it was all very easy but they made a bit of a boo boo with our paperwork which has left a bad taste in my mouth

Hi Polly, It may sound like a stupid question but do you still have to have the 25% deposit with an expat mortgage? I want to buy another one now as prices are low in the area I want but not quite got the 25% I need. I just know that in 6 months they'll increase. Sods law and all...

I would go for nursery over nanny every time. My DD got a temperature more often than I'd have liked but she never got REALLY ill. It was always for a couple of days once a month on average. Every child is different. Some pick up bugs easier than others. This was certainly the case in DD's nursery. Some babies were never off. I had a supportive boss who allowed me to work from home so it wasn't an issue. At nursery the babies are entertained all day and they get to play with all the other babies, it's so lovely. My concern with a nanny has always been that as the baby will be obviously spending so much time with her, when I get home from work will she want to come to me? When she's poorly, will she want me or the nanny? Well, luckily I'll never know.

I bought it recently at Spinneys DSO - go to your local Spinneys and look for it where you buy the seaweed and Japanese food. At DOS this is near the organic health section. Spinney's in Mercato have it too in the same section.

He needs someone to tutor for around 10 hours over the next 2 weeks. I don't really know any more. Just told him I'd put a thread on here. Is this something you'd be interested in? If so can I have your details. If not, thank you so much for replying and like White Orchid wrote, WOW WOW and WOW again

No thing useful to add but I do hope you can renew her visa. It would be such a shame to have to let her go when you're both really happy with the arrangement. (I also giggled that Pollydxb answered Mollydxb) Yey!!!! It looks like I can! Although knowing my luck rules would have changed by the time I come round to doing it. She really is a wonderful woman who we all adore. Now I've got to plan what we're going to do for her 60th!

There was a sign in the Dune Centre on Al Diyafa that said apartments for rent, I'm assuming it meant in the Dune centre. The best thing is to spend some time in the area and talk to the security guards in the buildings. There are some on Al Mina Road opposite the Al Owais building that are ok. A bit shabby, but lets face it, all the pretty one's are gone. Apparently quite a few apartments in the white building opposite the Dune centre have been done up. A friend lives there so just waiting for him to get a contact for me. The colourful apartment block on plant street above Chow King have recently been refurbished too and are quite nice. Can't remember the agent though so you'll have to go and have a look. Good Luck

Is he really controlling or just being extra careful with the finances? If it's really causing problems you need to talk to him and tell him. Like you stated, you don't buy designer labels but you do like to treat yourself so I see no wrong in that as long as your not going crazy. Also if your husband refuses to allow you to work for 5000 what can you do!? Both myself and DH work full time and I have all the control over our finances. He has to ask me for money but it's not a controlling thing, it's purely so I can keep track of where we are with our account as I also pay all of the bills, rent, car stuff, insurance, savings etc... He can take what he wants (whether he works or not) as long as the family things are looked after first. It's not the best country to be in if you're in financial difficulty (not saying you are btw) so maybe he's just being super duper cautious to ensure you have nice things, holidays, dinner out without having to worry about the bank balance. Just talk to him

Sorry to dig out this old post. We are will move from Dubai Marina to Jumeirah, Badaa, Dhiyafa Area and looking urgently for a 1BR or 2 BR Appartment in the area. I was in favour with the Appartments at the Ghazal Mall but there is a long waitinglist and we have to move in 3 weeks. I start panicing now as all good buildings in the area seems to be fully occupied. Do you know any good brokers for the area? Somebody which is moving in the next 3 weeks? Thanks in advance. Hi - I believe there are some apartments available in Al Maskan 1 right next door it Saladicious - management This apartment block is riddled with mould - i really wouldn't move in there. WOW! I'm so surprised by this. My friend lives in that block with her 3 young children and it's really clean, well maintained and in a great location. You are talking about the one with the entrance next door to saladicious? Just now wondering if there is another building on the other side.

I think a few do over here but I don't as we don't need it. Our maid works from 9 until 5 Sunday to Thursday (although she likes to start at 6.30am when it's cooler) We only need her to maintain the house, clothes washing, ironing and keep the garden tidy. No cooking or shopping as I enjoy doing all of that myself. If ever we need her to watch DD while we pop out for dinner or a few drinks she's more than happy to do this and never asks for any more money. I do however pay her extra at the end of the month as it makes me feel better. A maid and nanny are two separate roles in my opinion. When mine looks after DD I insist she doesn't touch the housework. Every family may have different views on the role of your maid, hours they work etc... This is just what we do. HTH

We had our first with Dr. Ibrahim last year and now seeing him again for number two. We were very happy with the care we received throughout the pregnancy & birth. There was good communication and a good relationship between doc/midwife during the birth, it felt very calm and I felt like I was in safe hands. Plus, his nurse is lovely and super on-the-ball when it comes to admin/insurance approvals etc. I've heard and read great recommendations about various OBs at City, so plenty to choose from. There are also OBs who deliver at City, even though they are based elsewhere. My friend went for this option as she lived at Jebel Ali and found trekking to City with two little ones for each appointment was too much! We saw Dr Ibrahim a few months ago and he is a wonderful man. Unfortunately my pregnancy didn't last but he helped me through everything, answered all my questions and has got me back on track.

What infuriates me is how much money is spent on benefits for the lazy a holes who have never worked and have no intentions of working. Watched Benefits Britain last night, think the steam is still coming out my ears. When did it all go so wrong , can't work, won't work... Do you know where I can watch it? They hand out money willy nilly. My relative has more than I could ever afford. Huge house, conservatory, 2 dogs, at least 2 holidays a year, take-aways most nights, trips out with kids to waterparks, fairgrounds, both kids have the latest gaming machines, I could go on and on.......

There are going to be lots of different opinions on this. Mine personally is that the language barrier wouldn't bother me for the first year. I would much rather have someone who came recommended and that was trustworthy. The fact that she has her own children is a huge plus for me. As baby turns into a talking toddler I'd want someone with better English. This however is only if child is with the nanny full time. It wouldn't bother me if child was going to nursery a few mornings a week and mixing with other children speaking the same language. I don't know what else to write. It's a tough one
