Last year my "A" got offered a job by one of my neighbours for 1,000 Dirhams more a month. I told her to take it as it's soo much more than we can offer and she replied "No ma'am, I'm happy here ma'am and my kids at home have everything they need" I told her she was crazy but if she's happy then I'm happy. We have never really treated her like a maid as that would make both myself and DH really uncomfortable, especially as she is older than us. She's treated more like a parent who can't help but meddle with the housework! Suits me!

If you don't want to buy one you can borrow ours for a while. It's only been used once so i'll need to take out of it's packaging to make sure it's ok. We live next door to Jum 1 so collecting would be no problem. The offer is there anyway oh Mollydxb, how extremely generous on your side! are you sure you wouldn't need it for that period? Really no problem at all. DD is now 3.5 and sleeps in a bed. I've just got back from work so i'll get it out. Whereabouts in Jum1 are you?

DH let me lie in this morning and sorted poorly DD out for me as i'd been up all night with her. Just as I woke the door bell rang, I opened it to DD stood on doorstep with a small bunch of flowers she'd picked from the garden under DH instructions. Tonight i'll be cooking his favourite meal. Sausage, egg & chips as a thanks. edited by Mollydxb on 14/02/2013

We are going to be moving out of our 3 bed villa in Jumeirah to be closer to my DH work in JAFZA. We did a lot of upgrades, including 2 new bathrooms (with walk in showers) one has a slipper bath and we contributed towards a new kitchen. It is compound with pool (private garden). We pay 140k but think Landlord wants to increase it to 160k with new tenant. Our contract expires end of March but will probably move before. I am wanting to sell our blinds, kitchen island, cooker, wooden flooring and perhaps some furniture as we are downsizing so if anyone is interested to view the villa please let me know. Hi Bamboo, My friend is moving to an apartment in Jumeirah 1 next week and will need a cooker at some point. Is yours electric? How much are you selling for? She's not back from the UK until the 7th but i'm sure she'll be interested if it's still available. Where abouts in Jumeirah 1 are you? edited by Mollydxb on 04/01/2013

Le Cadre is great and very cheap. I got 4 30x30 done @ 30dhs each 30 aed for printing your own photo to a canvas and stretching it to a frame? Or just stretching an existing canvas to a frame? It sounds like the latter only.... I took my usb in with 4 photo's on it and asked them to put on to canvas. All that for 30 dirhams each. I'm looking at them now and they're perfect!

Thanks flucie, Will take the photo's tonight and get him to the vets at the weekend to check if chipped. He's so adorable, he just strolls into my house like he owns the place. I'd keep him but i've just adopted 2 kittens from feline friends and needless to say they are not happy with the addition.

Can;t tell you if the salary is anywhere to competitive... but... you are not going to get a villa for 100k...... Housing doesn't sound too generous....especially not in case you have kids.... You can defo get a villa for 100,000k by the way. Might not be in the most desireable area's like Jumeirah or Umm Sequeim but there are plenty in Dubai for 100,000Dhs and less

Hey...thanks a ton for replying. What kind of issues are you referring to? If you can share that, I will have a clear picture. Also, have you heard about alphabet street? I've never heard of Alphabet but that doesn't really mean anything. There are so many nurseries in Dubai I haven't heard of half of them. My DD between the age of 6month to 18months was constantly off nursery with a cold, high temp etc... Now the nursery check the temp of every toddler before the parents leave. Some parents were leaving their child even though they were sick. Kids get sick more over here anyway because of the air con units etc.... but this really didn't help. The rest is all positive i'm happy to say.

If anyone has lost or knows someone who has lost a ginger & white Tom in the Bada/Satwa/Jumeirah area please contact me. He's been well fed, groomed and is so affectionate it must belong to someone. I'm guessing he's around 6-8 months old. He's just crying in my back garden morning and night and not sure what else to do with him as he has no intentions of moving on. Thanks edited by Mollydxb on 12/12/2012

My DD has been with little wonders for 3 years and I wouldn't hesitate in sending my second child there. She's progressed very well in those 3 years and has always been happy to leave me at the classroom door. I few very minor issue's have cropped up over the years but all in all very happy. If you want to ask me any questions please feel free

You can only get these at government hospitals/clinics. I had mine done recently and had to go to the Al Mankhool Clinic (near library) for it. Put the below coordinates into google for exact location. 25.246763, 55.292307 It cost me approx 350Dhs to get the yellow fever vaccine. Where in East Africa are you travelling to?

I just took my mum to Bastakiya today. We wandered around for a bit, looked through some of the shops and art galleries and then had lunch in the gorgeous courtyard at the Basta Art Cafe (which is now called the Arabian Tea House). She loved it, we had a really great time. I'll definitely keep taking my visitors there. I do this everytime with visitors and they love it! It doesn't matter which 5 star hotel we take them to, when I go home they always remember Basta Art Cafe and their Lemon & Mint drink. Blummin lovely!

If you have Milia (tiny white spots) then I'd recommend Simply Skin in the Al Ghazal Mall for extractions. Just make sure you do some hardcore exfoliating at least 2 weeks prior to going so they're closer to the surface. Expect your face to be a bit red for approx 2 days afterwards. I've tried a few places here and some have left me with blotchy skin for 2 weeks!

Reflets is in it's own class I have heard this, it is on the 2 do list. But so is Gary Rhodes Twenty 10 I really enjoyed Twenty 10 but for me it didn't differ from a lot of other restaurants in Dubai. Once you knock reflets off your to do list you'll be popping it straight on your "to do again" list edited by Mollydxb on 09/10/2012

I just don't see that a school would be workable on the lines of "I'm paying so I decide" - would the favoured teacher even be a great teacher if everyone thought like OP and instead of (for example) 2 classes of 25 - you have 45 kids in one class and 5 in the other - then the parents from the other class would be complaining that they are not "paying" for a class of 45! If everyone took this attitude it would be complete chaos - 30 parents decide that they are "paying" for their child to sit in the front row - 40 parents decide that they are "paying" for their child to be first in the lunch queue - 50 parents decide that they are "paying" for their child to be on the football team etc etc etc Sorry OP when you send your kids to school you are giving up some of your right to control everything and have to abide by both school rules and headteacher's decisions. You have asked if a move is possible and the answer was no - therefore you have 2 options - stay put - move your child to another school (however the teacher can never be guaranteed) I agree with this. You have to remember that teachers are not robots. They all have their own teaching style. To make a judgement so soon is in my view not on and a little bit disrespectful towards the teacher as a professional. In the past 4 years, out of 6 of my teaching friends 5 of them have left the school they are in and it had nothing to do with the school, the children or the country. It was because of the way they were spoken to and treated by some of the parents. When going to the doctors would you question his or her ability based on what they look like or how they sound? I hope not. These are professionals who have gone through years of education themselves and training to do the job. Give her a chance! You obviously have your childs best interest at heart but so do teachers!

One of the funniest things I witnessed was in the cafe of a stately home down south while we were on holiday in our narrowboat. One of the female serving staff bustled about clearing tables and serving food dressed in jeans and a check blouse. In a corner were 4 women dressed to the nines and talking very loudly in snotty voices about their various charity events and problems with "ones" hired help. The woman in the checked blouse approached the table and asked how their food was. One of the madams snootily told her "fine" and virtually waved her away. She came over to us and asked the same question to which we smiled and said "lovely thank you" As she walked away the cafe phone rang and another woman answered. She turned around and said "Lady Isobel, it's your husband" The snooty females faces were a picture. Apparently, the COUNTESS often helped out in the shop and cafe as she liked mixing with people who were contributing to the upkeep of her beautiful old home. She slipped out a side door before the 4 Hyacinth Buckets had a chance to grovel!! (Hyacinth was a character in a British sitcom about snobbery!) :D Ha ha ha I have a similar story from back home in the motor trade. Arrogant sales person ignored the scruffy 50 year old looking at new motors in the showroom and opted to chat with the suit who was looking around. The scruffy guy tried to enquire about this 1 particular model but the sales person just ignored him. It turned out that all the scruffy chap needed to know was the size of the boot to see if it would fit the hospital equipment that his 50 strong sales team were selling. He popped across the road to another garage and got a not so arrogant sales person who gladly took his order for 50 cars.

I only started reading the 2nd because I was hoping it got better but unfortunetly it didn't. It has a little bit more of a story in book 2 but there are far too many unneccessary s** scenes (yawn yawn - not even interesting stuff) I've not finished the 2nd book yet as a friend downloaded the gruffalo's child for me so I spend my evenings watching that with my daughter. Hat's off to E L James though. She knew that women can't stay curious for long.

We took MIL (Coeliac) to Ruth Chris and her menu option was huge! She was delighted as she hates having to explain to waiting staff. Seriously! I would have been more than happy ordering from her menu. They stayed in the Quamardeen and had lunch at Esca. She spoke to the head chef there and he made a few dishes for her (it was friday brunch) She was amazed that he went to such a great effort to cook the things she loves. I'm pretty sure that any established restaurant will cater for you, just make sure you call before and talk to someone who understands. It's not easy over the phone so maybe if you e-mail them they'll be able to assist. HTH

Can anyone please recommend nice accommodation in Sri Lanka not too far from the airport, looking for a nice small villa as we are only 3 PAX, nice hotel or resort close to the beach? We have one child so needs to be child friendly. We enjoyed the Jetwing Beach in Negombo We also stayed there, it was amazing - good beach, pool and lovely rooms! and isn't it only around 15-20 mins from the airport? Really gutted we couldn't stay there again in the summer (fully booked) as the other 3 hotel we stayed in were nowhere near as nice. We had a room on the ground floor so little one could run out at her leisure. Really lovely

Derien, We're having the same nightmare. We were reluctant to move into a villa because of these DEWA nightmare stories but did our research and were happy with what the neighbours were getting and also the previous tenant (and she had air con on ALL through the house ALL year round) We had our 1st bill and the electricity consumption was 4100Dhs!!!!! The following month (we were on holiday for the whole time) was the same consumption which is impossible. I'm back & forth to DEWA about this but haven't got anywhere yet. I'm not giving up as something isn't right. We're talking about more than 100Dhs a day on upstairs AC and approx 1 load of washing a day plus around 1 hour of tele! What I find frustrating is that all neighbours are getting bills for more than half mine yet when I explain this to DEWA they think this is fine. I moved because I wanted a garden for my girl but can't justify 4000Dhs a month for it. Especially when we don't even have grass! Back to the apartment next year i think
