You should complain to DEWA. We had the same problem and we thought that it is backdated, but it was just a mistake on the amount of the rent. If you have online account registered you can update the info yourself. Our bill was corrected.

:) Yes, we do have winter here in the desert :) Well, it is not snowing, but still can be quite cold for a baby. Due to the windy weather it may be 5-7*. Also have in mind that even in the summer you will be indoors and under AC, so the t* will be around 18*, especially in the mall. I would not recommend sleeveless clothes at all, but you don't need to go for wool too. Hope this helps :)

Hi Ayshe, Yes, it is illegal, but if the service is not paid then there is no problem. I just would like to mention that 15 years old would not have munch influence on 3 years old. You may have better results with educational english movies like brainy baby, etc. Have in mind that kids at that age are like sponge and will absorb everything much easier that you and me. Trust me, my little one is 5 now and is comfortable with 4 languages :)

Hi, I am afraid there is no civil marriage in UAE. If you are not into the church marriage you should contact your embassy. Not all, but most can do this for you with or without ceremony. Note that you will need the witnesses :)

Hi irooni, The TESOL training is pretty much the same price all over the place. Eton has good teachers and support. The opportunity for work is not offered by all institutes, so it is not bad, though I don't think it will be with high salary. Eton hires on part-time basis.

Hi there, I had the same issue a few months back with my son. As it turned out it was the cartoons he was watching. Even cartoons like "The Croods" can be scary as the characters are chased by animals and so on... Once we switched to educational cartoons all this stopped. In 2 days we all had a very nice sleep :) Some kids are very sensitive. Don't worry, its just a phase :)

Is the cost of the sponsored employee, and their dependents, the responsibility of the employer? Or just the employee? Can someone direct me to the Labor Law dealing with this information please? as per labour law only the employee cost is responsibility of the company. the family visa cost is not mentioned there. most companies mention if the cost of the family of the employee is covered by the company in the employee contract and offer letter. if it is mentioned that the company will cover it, then it has to be.

If you have written notice letter that is signed and accepted by your employer than you can fight for it, but it will be a long and not so nice process. Generally as per UAE law 1 day is the notice for probation. The law manages mostly employment from 1 year. Sorry :(

sorry, did not read everything, but NO is the answer. No one, even your landlord cannot enter into your apartment/house until the end of your lease, unless you have given written permission for that. I've gone through this and it is mentioned in the RERA rules.

If you have a copy just need to fill one form and pay the fee for re-issuing. If you do not have the copy, then you have to go with the number plate details, fill the form and so and so :)

i usually give old stuff to my maid; she is usually very grateful What happened? I don't have a maid. We did not like it and after one year we had to let her go :( I don't know if this is a natural state of things here, but people were so rude. One lady called with boss tone to inform that she will come at so and so time and should prepare it for her?! One man called me and just told me - hi, send me sms now! I always try to be very nice to everyone, even the ones that do not deserve it, but this was over the Moon. It is free, so how you demand anything from the person giving it to you?! For 2 hours I went crazy. My friends kids are big now, mine is the smallest, so all that is not in use has to just go somewhere else. My apparently stupid idea was to help someone that does not have the opportunity to purchase things like that for their kids. I don't think I'll repeat that. At the end I gave all the things to the cleaner. He is not married, but he will sell them and make some money. [b'>Better than nothing :([/b'> This is the first time I am really clearing the house, so there were lots of stuff. My mind still does not comprehend completely what happened :) Very disappointing. Why is that? What were you expecting?? You wanted to give away your things, and you did...job done. You are right. Job done and next time will do the same. I just wanted to give them to a baby. It is not easy when you have a small one and lots of things are not up to your wallet. We are well off now, but my parents were not, so I know how it is. Well, I guess maybe I am just too sensitive to this.

Hi Ladies, Do you give away old items? I tried. I wanted to make a difference for someone. Had some old, but in perfect condition items + some new, but never used. Posted advert that I am giving them for free and..... Had no idea that people here are so aggressive. The tone and the phonecalls..... Is it me or this is it here? I felt sorry that I posted the advert. Now I rather dump them into the garbage .... It was so unnerving experience. What was your experience? Was it me, maybe had bad luck or something... edited by mpp_jl on 07/11/2012

Hi there to All! So, where should i start.... Ok, I was 75kg when I started the diet, so no, I was not super overweight, just a little. I gained weight after my son was born. I am sure I am not the only one with this problem :) The yoghurt I am taking is full fat and as such is full of fat, minerals and nutrients. The bread is white, so full with all fibres and so and so :) As I mentioned I am not starving or even feeling hungry. I drink also full fat fresh milk - also with fat, minerals and nutrients. Actually yesterday I got my annual checkup and according to my doctor I've never been better :) Yeee... As for the toilet issue :) Well, I don't drink too much water in general. This is not good I know as after all we are in a very hot place, but.... Now I count my glasses of water and milk and make sure there are 8 per day - 1.5l. This is the recommended amount of liquid per day for anyone. So, this is the reason why I have to go more often that I am used to, not that it is too much or not normal :) O...and yes, this is not a lifestyle, just a diet. I've tried so many and never got this result. My target is to get to my weight before pregnancy, so with this rate I'll need 3 more weeks max. :) I know that with fast weight loss then it is very easy to gain it back as fast, but fitting into my clothes from 1 year back is very inspiring :) I have to say that I do not eat junk food or overeat, I just gained the weight after the baby and it has been so hard to let go of it. I work full time and also part time for things I support, so I really do not have the time to follow something complicated. I have no time to prepare 5 meals a day as I am home at 7pm and out at 6am. This is why this diet was perfect for me. It takes me 10min to prepare everything, plus you can make more of the yoghurt mix and keep it the fridge for the next day too :) I've discovered that when it comes to diet it is very subjective and one thing can work for 100 people and not do anything for 1. Maybe I am that 1 :) I struggled with this for long, so I wanted just to give one more option to those who are like me. I am not sure if this is recommendable for people that are very overweight, it just works for me. In any case if you are looking to make a drastic change you should at least inform your GP - like I did :) All the best to all and if this helps at lest one person I'll be happy :) Cheers

Hi Ladies, I am getting more and more frustrated :( They have UAE in their list, but when you enter the address it gives you an error .... So not cool... Tried Aramex shop and ship, but it is so complicated and pay for this and pay for that... Anyone has done this? TIA I bought a brand new one off Dubizzle. Perhaps have a look on there as it may save you some money. Mine was really cheap and still in the box. Play around with your address on Amazon sometimes it takes a few go's mmmm, will try that. Thanks :) I've ordered books and had no problem, but from Kuwait, so I thought that UAE will be the same. Apparently not. Will definitely try your trick :) Thanks :)

Hi Samie, Yes, schools need vaccination card with the vaccines as per the UAE list that are mandatory. The list is not that long, so I am not sure what you would like to skip. I had to add some to make sure that all is up to date with what is required back home. If you have a good pediatrician check with her/him for advice. Hope this helps :)

Well, it is very different. The ground that you plan to lay the grass on, is it sand or there was grass at some point? Do you want soft bed or concrete bed? I used GreenScapes with soft bed and got the grass myself from China mart :) It costed me 1 year ago 7.50Dhs per m2 for the installation. BTW you can do this yourself if the place is not too big :)

I don't ask for attested certificates too, but monitor the sick days and once they reach 15 as per the labour law start cutting the salary. Also as mrsg I do not accept anything but Clinic or Hospital certificate. There is a guy on my team who repeatedly calls in sick - I'm talking once a week. His excuses are pathetic - he didn't sleep well, he's not up to coming in, he has a cold. I had a stinking cold and dragged myself in all of last week, I never once took a day off for horrific morning sickness and I came in after surgery. I think some people take the absolute p*ss so I am keen to know about this 15 day limit when they start cutting salary. It has been noticed by our boss as well. It's not fair as we have a team target and this guy works part time hours! Not to mention the fact he comes in late every single day - we have a finger logging in system and the earliest he ever comes in is 9:45 - 10:30am when he lives 5 mins away, always leaves early too. Aaaargh this is my personal bugbear! I understand completely :) This is from the Labour law: Article 83 1. A worker shall not be entitled to any paid sick leave during the probationary period. 2. A worker who contracts illness after completing three months, following the probationary period, in the continuous service of an employer shall be entitled to a sick leave not exceeding 90 days, successive or otherwise, in respect of each year of service, to be calculated as follows. • The first 15 days: with full pay. • The next 30 days: with half pay. • Any subsequent periods: without pay. Article 84 No wage shall be payable for sick leave if the illness is the direct result of the worker's misconduct (such as consumption of alcohol or narcotic drugs). UAE Labour Law 19 Article 85 An employer may terminate the services of a worker who fails to report back to work after exhausting all sick leaves provided for in Articles 82, 83 and 84 hereof. In this case the worker shall be entitled to severance pay as stipulated in this Law. Hope this helps. Also for every day that the employee has no proper reason to be absent you should deduct his salary - slept late is one of these reasons, this is not illness and in this case you should ask for attested certificate just make a point. I've fired one person for this. Issued 3 warning letters stating that if this behaviour is not corrected a termination of contract will follow and since it did not change anything I had to let go of this person. Now I am very happy with the replacement :)

Hi there Lina, It depends on your visa/sponsor visa. If it is DIFC for example it not a problem. For maid you will have to give explanation why you wish to take maid from a different nationality. For driver UAE DL and higher salary is required. In Dubai they look at these case by case. You can check with any visa processing company. They do all the documentation and checking for you :)

Hi. If you can give me someone in the bank that is reasonable would be great. Otherwise if someone works in a bank or works with people that work in a bank.... I am sorry, this must be very silly, but here the system is very different than the one in UK and I'm just trying to make sense of it all. The bank keep charging for different things with no explanation, refuses to provide me with the list of all rules and regulations for the account... Now I am full time employee and apparently it is a must to have local bank account, so here I am with my problems :) TIA
