Hi, yes, you can get mail to your house :) from your home Europe country at least. it will be delivered to your home by em-post :) back home from the post office it needs to be send as express or VIP package addressed to your home address + tel. to contact you. when it is here em-post will call you to check when you are home and they will deliver it to your door. you need to have some ID for them when taking it :) that's it. it is in some cases faster than the courier... I am not pulling your legs, it is.... o, just to add that for normal mail like letters, etc. it is the best to give your work POBox. If you don't want that you can rent a POBox anywhere available. I think it was something like a 1k per year. edited by mpp_jl on 04/07/2011

I have a colleague that went trough this op and..... she almost died. I am not joking. She spend some 3 months in hospital and went trough more op to fix what was not done right.... If you really want to do this don't do it here! Her story is very scary and she is lucky to be alive! She has a case against the doctor and the clinic with some other people with similar experience and still waiting for result.... Paid a lot of money for this and ..... Plus nadadanada is right, it's major op. You should really think about this and my advice is not to go for it.

I only gave my children frozen veg for the last 2 years of living in Dubai. We constantly had tummy bugs from the food there. It was one of the deciding factors (along with dire education system) to move back home. lol.... sorry to hear that tally-ho. Yes, I agree the food in UAE is not up to my standards too, but not much choice at the moment. I am using frozen veggies too, but things like tomatoes can't be frozen :) we do not have problems like tummy bugs, but than again my case is different as both with my husband have lived in about 10 different countries and their food, so maybe we just can't feel it anymore :D he he... I hope that ECDC will manage to find soon how and from where this bug is coming. I am afraid the Health system here is not also very reassuring...

http://www.iimahd.ernet.in/~jajoo/gmdiet.html I've tried this one after my son was born and post some medical problems. I was retaining water and feeling generally not so nice and tired all the time. This diet worked for me and I am still using it as detox from time to time. I have to confess that I was not following it exactly, but still worked for me (the first days I was so hungry in the evening so I started with the food for the next day :D)

I know bean sprouts are good for you but I've never liked the idea of eating them raw as they are fiddly and difficult to wash properly. Any contamination will be on the surface so other veg like cucumbers/capsicum/tomatoes are fine as they are easy to clean well with a vinegar or salt wash which should kill all the germs, including E. coli. You can also peel the cucumbers if you are very concerned but you loose the nutritients close to the skin. Even if there are some nasty germs on your veg they are not going to survive too well having been transported by plane and then stored in the fridge - germs are quite sensitive! The people who got sick in Germany were eating freshly contaminated bean sprouts. :D Thank you! This is what I wanted to hear. I think for now I'll just make sure I know where from are the veggies that we eat and wash them very nicely. My main concern is for the LO as he is only 2,5 and his immune system is not yet fully operational :) Thank again :D

hey there.... in any country there will be some "smart" one that thinks that this or that not so clean or legal thing is ok and can make money on somebody else expense, so Egypt, Germany or Spain.... no matter. No one is excluded. Annabelle09, I agree that in Europe we tend to blame all to the 3rd world countries, but also you have to agree that those countries have less prevention measures due to less financing in this area - they have other problems to work on. I loved Egypt and the food there, but to be honest I'll trust more the examination and prevention checking process in Germany of France than Egypt. Sorry. Just in Europe we have so many rules, tests and checks, etc. of the food we eat. This certainly do not mean that nothing can come from one of the European countries and if I remember correctly Germany thought in the beginning that it is from one of their farms and they announced it to everybody, so I don't think it is a blame game. tally-ho, I remember that in the beginning of all this cucumbers were the source and I didn't see anything that says that this is proved not to be the case. My problem is that cucumbers are not so nice cooked :) I am half Egyptian, half western European myself so yes I do agree that measures taken in Europe are better than third world countries, BUT that does not give Germany the excuse to blame other countries for their Ecoli problem ( ie spain and now Egypt) with the assumption that Germany makes no mistake..and by following the news regarding Ecoli outbreak in Germany through the local news here and my own western country, I do recall that Germany first blamed Spain, then it seemed that there was no way out for them, but to start checking their own farms in Hamburg since this is where the problem originated from.. ok, point taken. I agree they are looking someone else to be the bad one :) But on the other hand I think any country will do the same. In this market any bad news has impact on the local economy I guess. And for the record, I have friends in Spain and things are very bad there too, so I am not sure if they are better than Egypt at the moment. Plus I have never agreed to call Egypt a 3rd world country, but this a different story :) o, and I am not any part Egyptian :) he he... This label should be only for those places that are in constant war or without government for long time, etc. Egypt is not any of those, right. Ok, they are not at the level of Germany and France, but not Somalia too. Sorry, got lost there :D

Ok, I am learning something new here :) Is sprouted seeds so popular as production in Egypt? To be honest when this e-coli thing started is the first time I am hearing that Egypt is producing them and exporting to Europe. I mean, I am not in this business, but Egypt comes to mind with other things (veggies). So, Is sprouted seeds that popular cos it is almost like UK exporting rice to me :)

You have a point tally-ho, but then I read that this is a new strain so it can be from anywhere. I've lived in Germany and France and they are very struct when it comes to checking for such things and still you see how many people are sick or .... (don't want to say it). Where do you get your veggies? Or you avoid them for now?

Well, you can say no, but she can decide not to work and then you will have to fire her and then you will have to pay everything. I know that from this year it is easier to get a maid from other then the recommended nationalities :) This is nice. I think it is a good idea to talk with the agency that have used regarding this issue. Do you have a contract with them? If you do, there should be a guarantee for the worker you are taking for at least 6 months. Other than that I don't think there are more changes. The employment contract has been reduced to 2 years, but in your case this is not applicable as she is only 4 months with you. In general in case of any legal disagreements the contract signed by both parties is valid and the labor law. If you like the lady you can try and reach an agreement with her - this will be the best way, but not always works. Sorry, I am not much help, but I am afraid this type of issues are never easy.

It was all over BBC and Gulf News… http://gulfnews.com/news/region/egypt/seeds-from-egypt-may-be-e-coli-outbreak-source-food-safety-experts-say-1.830408 In Dubai not all veggies have taste and I am particularly fond of the tomatoes and cucumber from Egypt as they grow them in actual soil and not these chemicals like gel. My son loves them too and now I am not sure if I should give him any. My point was not to say anything bad about Egypt, but to get more info from you Ladies as my LO is very bad when it comes to food and if we can’t use the one he is used to I am in problem :(

No, she can't. As her employer you need to sign her release. Only in the case of none payment of wages for more than 3 months the employee can cancel the contract without the permission of the employer. Also as the standard probation time is 6 months, if the employee decides to leave before completion of these 6 months, all visa cost, sick days, etc. needs to be deducted from the employee final settlement. If you hired her locally you do not need to pay her the ticket home also. Well, this is according to the law, but you may not apply some of the rules if you want when it benefits the maid - this is legal. If you hired her from her country, than you need to pay for her return ticket. Hope this is helpful. Have in mind that she may go home and decide not to come back, so do not pay anything in advance - if she goes on leave now that will be unpaid leave as she has not completed 6 months. Sorry but you have to provide a ticket home wether she was employed here or home country, if she has obsconded they can keep the deposit to pay for her ticket when she turns up. Or if on AD visa as u dont pay the deposit we had to give 2k to them. This is was happened to us a few months ago. The only way you would get away with it is if u cancel her visa then transfer her to someone else, but the op said she wanted to go home. edited by fairycakeyumm on 04/07/2011 No problem :) My info is from the end of last year and they are changing everything all the time, so if have done this just a couple of months back then the ticket is there. Before for Dubai it was different if the maid is employed locally or from overseas. Even the submission of the documents for the visa in the first place was different for each case.

The point I was trying to make was that it's pretty ironic to have spelling mistakes in a post where you're criticizing someone else's spelling :) Point taken :) This happened some time back and now I can laugh about it :) I was just trying to make it funny :) I am not criticizing. I know that there is no right way of spelling a name, but does it need to be all different? In UK all names are approved and then put into signs. [b'>I guess I was just expecting here to be the same.[/b'> Whaaaat? You're not a newbie, either! :D If you're comfortable driving, you won't need a taxi. RAK is fine, honestly. If you can't find it on Google Earth or you don't get a map, email me on sanddy.dogg @ gmail . com for directions (as I assume you won't want to post the location on a public forum - unless it's an area like Granada, Mina Al Arab or Al Hamra). Thanks :) Let me get where they actually live :) If I have a problem I WILL let you know :) I am not new to UAE, but due to some not very nice things happening in my life I am able to go out just recently(very long story). This is why I am not so good when it comes to finding an address :)

Ras Al Khaimah is at the northern end of Emirates Road (E311). Either ask your friends for directions, have a look on Google Earth or by a Ras Al Khaimah mini-map in Carrefour. Or ask me :) wow, I think I'll have to do all :) Would it help if I use taxi?

Just to give an update. I booked with Madras to do the pest control today. I booked it for 2 and they sent someone who barely spoke English. I nearly had a brain haemorrhage trying to describe how to get to my apartment over the phone. He finally arrived at 4. He spread some funny looking stuff all over the apartment nooks and corners and it was over in 20 minutes. He assured me it was good for 6 months but if I see anything within 15 days, to give him a call. Cost me AED 175 for my studio apartment. Hope it works. Thanks to everyone! I feel your pain. I hate these things too. brrrr..... If the thing that he used looks like p***p it must be the same they used in our apartment and it worked :) But I paid 100 only for 1 bedroom - 1 year back, so now maybe it's 175. After 1 year I still don't have a problem :) Hope it will stay like that. Good luck :)

I totally agree, mpp, drives me up the wall! Trying to program the GPS yesterday and entered three different spellings (from three different maps!) of the one place name. GPS wouldn't accept any of them, grr! So driving round in little circles and I finally see a street sign with a [u'>fourth[/u'> spelling on the place, so tried programming that in and, lo and behold, the GPS suggests a fifth spelling of the same place, which of course is the only one that it would recognise. Got there in the end, but what a rigmarole :\: wow, thank you for that. we were thinking of taking GPS to make it easier to find our way, but now I will not. Thanks :) Is it the same all over UAE or just Dubai? We recently met one family and they invited us to visit them in Ras Al Khaima - not sure if this is the spelling :) Do I need to get location map from them or we'll be fine? TIA :)

Well, there's no denying that Dubai's road layout is crazy, and the signposting eccentric, but that's a separate issue to spelling, surely? There's no one 'official' method of transliterating words from Arabic into the Latin alphabet, so you will always get variants that, if you read them aloud, sound roughly the same like all the variant signposts you passed. Like you see 'Sheikh and 'Shaikh' interchangeably. It's even comparatively recent that the spelling of Dubai has settled as 'Dubai' - old maps have it as 'Debbai' or other things... (And locals pronounce it more like that, I think...?) I guess you are right, but there should be one system for the st. signs ...... or not? Some areas are not like that. It is very confusing for a new person in Dubai. o, yes, Dubbayyy also is there.... For personal use you can put it as you like, but for everything else needs to be the same I think. Just imagine if we don't have a car and need to use the public transport and then walk...... in this weather......

Hi LIL, sorry you are feeling sad :( we had some problems too before our first one. long story short - at the end after all the doctor visits and so on end so on..... it turns out that the biggest problem was the mental state of both of us :) after some time we decided that it's just not happening and we gave up, at least for some time..... and tataaaaa :) when my LO was 1 I found one article that was explaining how stress affects all in your body and when you desire something very so much.... this is stress... :) it kinda made sense for me after all the "why.... and so on..." one month after I made myself not to think about this and just leave it in peace..... there it was :) it's not exactly medical solution, but it may work for you too. being relaxed and happy is very important. wish you good luck :)

So while standing in the middle of the road, in a blasting 50 degree Celsius i should be waisting my TIME, my MONEY, sweat my a**s off trying to wright down cab No.plate, dial office call center etc...to report a taxi driver?? Is that supposed to make me feel better? I don`t see how... Now i always have small change, or i tell the driver right away something like: 'i have a 100 dhs bill, do you have a change?' They always figure out the way, he can pass by any petrol pump to get the change, but never a long detour! For me, being bold with them works better than threatening them. edited by Fondue on 03/07/2011 I get your point perfectly :) I am afraid that there is not much we, the customers, can do.... I am not the fighting type and after I reported 3 drivers from Dubai taxi now every time I call for one it is in front of my house in 10min :) So now I don't have to report them anymore :) It worked for me :)

Next time get the number of the taxi and report him if he is not taking you for short distance. In Dubai it is not permitted to the taxi drivers to tell you NO for short distance, but they do it, so you can report them. Also the fare should be as per the address and he needs to have change and needs to give you a receipt for the amount paid. If not, again - report the driver. I know I may be too strict or bad towards these people, but most of the taxi drivers break all rules all the time, so in Dubai especially I don't feel bad reporting them as this is a job that needs to be done in a certain way and according to certain rules and the driver has agreed to all this in the first place, right.... Also be careful as there are many fake taxis lately. Cheers

OO, this is so familiar :) Let me tell you something, do not stress yourself so much with only 200g difference! the charts for LO are to give you an idea of what it must be, not to be followed exactly. every kid is different and trust me.... none of them is according to the charts :) just eat properly and healthy and everything will be just fine. unless the difference is very big there is nothing to go crazy about :) I really feel you as I was the same with my first. he was not according to any scale and did not want to eat this or that and don't want to do this or that........ at the end all was fine and I was stressing myself for nothing :) he was just different. you have enough things to worry about and you will have even more when your LO is not so little anymore :) enjoy your time and just monitor approximately all the things like that :) your LO is little, but smart and knows some things better than you, so trust your instincts and relax.

Check for small leaks from anything that uses water, even places that are moist. Roaches seek moist places to lay their eggs, so make sure these places are sprayed and dried as much as possible to discourage them to enter into your house. A/C is perfect for them if dripping. Thanks queenbee, but I think the case is not yet with prosecution. Do you know how long it takes for the case to reach from the police to the public prosecution? or this happens instantly? I was told it just depends on how busy they are and that it wouldn't be instant, more likely a couple of weeks. This is more like it :) So if she pays the cheque amount to the RE agency the case can be closed before goes to the prosecution? Yes. But it's in her best interest not to delay this payment (in full) because right now everything is in the hands of the RE agency and if they want to find a way to make her life difficult, they will. She will have the money in 15 days max, but the issue is that her contract for the apartment is ending before that. I am just not sure if that matters - she needs to clear the payment before the end of the contract or she can do this after, just a couple of days? I do not have the funds to help her as we are shifting too and need to pay our rent :( If her case (and passport) are already with the police, then it doesn't matter if the contract is up or not, she is already overdue on a payment and she is pushing her luck by delaying payment. Thanks Monkey Face :) This is really helpful as I am never late with payments and never had a problem like this :) I'll push her to settle this ASAP. Thanks again :) Appreciated :)

Well, I can recommend just the type - cyclone. No bags, easy to clean, so no extra cost. Mine is LG and I love it :) But I guess any brand will do as they are all the same now-a-days. I liked mine because of the price and shape :)

I didn’t realize how funny this is until my husband mentioned it in front of friends and they burst into laughter & tears. So, I decided to share it with you all. I am working in our company’s new office and this office is in a completely new building. As the building is new, the water & electricity is not yet connected and due to that it’s not possible to use the toilets. So, me and my colleagues are going to the next door building for that. As the t* are around 50 now a days, I usually take my car for the 5-7min drive there and I literally drive to my toilet :) He he…. It is funny, but what is the alternative? I am being creative, right? Men are easy. They can do that in a bottle. I can’t. Tried, not working very well if you know what I mean…. Speaking of which….. I need to go again How would you go about this type of problem? I’m just wondering :)

WOW, sorry for that muu :( Hope things will get better very soon. Just popped in my mind - if he is terminated with no notice the company needs to pay him one basic salary. Hope something works out also with of arohadxb's lead :)

emirates NBD, i have an account and it debits from that. i am sure other bank atm's would offer this? i never noticed it for two years until someone told me to press the 'other services' button - then there's a whole lot of joy and good options regarding bill payment! Thanks :) I'll check mine too. If it works will be great. Came to think about it, I have never look properly at the options on the ATM that I don't use :) Well, I guess I'll look now :)

Use the spoon as toy. Give it to her not only during eating time, but when she is playing. 9m, she should be putting everything in her mouth :) Once she gets use to having the spoon as toy you will not have any problem. I went trough the same thing and then my sister told me about an article somewhere on the Internet that was suggesting to use the spoon as a toy first and then as a feeding tool. It worked :) I did the same thing with the fork :) Let her choose the spoon in the shop and then give it to her to play with. Also if you are eating with a spoon when she is eating will help a lot as they are like sponges at this age and repeat everything mama is doing :) Hope it works for you as I know what workout it is when they are fighting you over the food. Good luck :)
