My Sister has lived in Zurich for 7-8 years. They have a fantastic lifestyle (at huge cost), the live looking over a field and have fantastic walks and mountian bike tracks thru the wood from their door, yet they are less than a 5 min walk to the train (FANTASTIC public transport), however I don't think she has still got used to the blatent racism she encounters very regularily b/c she is not swiss german. They really did struggle to develope a social network - they have now got a great circle of friends....but I don't think any of their close friends are swiss german........and then if you are anything other than white...well frankly I just wouldn't live their, as that takes racism to a completely different level. So like anywhere it require compromises...it just depends what you are prepared to compromise on. Oh and schooling is expensive...they tried going the whole local school route, but my nephew was severely bullied (basically b/c he wasn't swiss), so they eventually moved him to the International school. Very hard to get spots and it is close to CHF40,000 a year plus, plus, plus

No there are a number - I used the cow and gate when we were travelling. I brought it from Choihtrams. But at a year old, he should transistion onto milk...you make find formula decreases his appetite. I would Focus on feeding him calorie rich meals, if you want him to put on weight.....but healthy, like avocado, egg custards, scrambled egg for breakfast.....you will find I am sure he gains weight that way. DD was on the 12th percentile from about 3 weeks of age until about 9 months when she really got going on solids, from then on she has steadily moved up the growth charts, until now she is on the 50th (for weight, 75th for height) Also don't put much store in the growth charts, someone has to be at the bottom and BF babies generally are, doesn't mean they are not healthy........

My DS finds any change stressful. We have always used rescue remedy- which I think helps a lot. I just haven't seen it to buy here..... For DS I actually use the blue current pastels, that have the rescue remedy in them.

My Cat Max is missing again.....unfortunately he has a habit of nosing around delivery trucks, which has taken him on a journey already to meadows 2, which we managed to get him back from. He is microchipped, but slipped his collar last week. He is Black and White and has some patches of hair missing around his neck and face (but you can see it is growing back in), very cheeky and loves kids. Other than the hair missing he looks very well looked after (ie well fed) If you see him, can you please contact me on [email protected] MTIA

It will take you awhile to build up a network- I would say go to the parks, try and met some mums in your community. I also think it's really normal to feel a bit lost when you at first become a SAHM - it took me quite awhile to get used to not having the stress and very clear sense of purpose that my career gave me.... Now I have 2 I don't have a chance to think about it!

It is so personal...I am not a fan of Dr Rita at Healthbay, but you may like her. I really like Dr sean Petherbridge at Infinity health clinic...he is not a pediatrician though, but a family Doc...we all go to him. I second Sean Petherbridge at Infinity Health as well. Dr Louster is the best he is the main peadritician there. Don't go to the lady peadtrician cause I didn't think much of her. I so agree with you baby rat - really do not like the female ped and would say stay away from her.

The country which nurtured you, educated you, gave you the freedom and safety to say and think what you like..........and you think you PAY them? You have a strange strange sense of the social contract. Shame on you. But then I seem to recall a post in which you made it clear that you regard passports as a right rather than a privilege. Again, shame. The country had no hand in raising me, sorry to break that to you. My mother and father and the teachers at my schools did those things (sad that you would take that away from those people). And again, my parents' and my tax dollars (along with millions of others) are what finances the government. I quite literally do pay them. So your parents raised you in a vacuum? Interesting........ Norak- thank you for sharing, hopefully in will open the eyes of some of the more naive ladies on this board.

Each consulate sets a minimum wage for people from their country who work here. Educate yourself and find out what you have to pay as a minimum. That should be your starting point. And do you every wonder if these stories of children being abused by maids, or maids stealing from their employers come about b/c the employer is right royally scr*wing them? just a thought ...sorry this comment not aimed at the OP but the other scrouges on this thread.

I have friends who make it quite clear that they are better than me, and I am hopeless at all sorts of things. Theyre probably right but its awful to feel so belittled. But I just don't compete, what is point? In fact, i have decided to feel liberated by being so hopeless...the bar is set at a low standard for whatever it is so theres not a lot to live up to, no? The real trick is to know yourself to be better than that and let the rest slide off your back. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

To answer your question - no she is not, she is an educational consultant, who helps parents find schools for their kids. She was originally a primary school teacher. Lots of people arriving here with multiple kids use her.....I know lots of people who have used her whose kids do not require learning support. However she also has helped a fair number of kids, who schools would maybe reject because they require learning support. She has a passion for helping find a school for children in dubai who may be discriminated against because they require support.......because of this she has some interesting insight into schools that offer learning support...the good the bad the ugley. Anyway we used her to help find DS a school - he has a speech delay. Its her business, so you pay, but it was the best money we spent. Does that help? If you search her name here her details will pop up I am sure I am a bit confused - dyspraxia and dyslexia are two different things...she has both? Have you thought about a second opinion also? I just ask as I was just having the conversation today with another Mum about Ed psych's here that take an hour to make a diagnosis, when really the process should take hours to really ascertian whats going on.

Bubble-trubble.... I think the best place to start is to talk to Fiona Coutts, you may decide not to engage her services, but she is a good place to start. From experience I would say many say they offer learning support, but few actually do it well. Fiona has a special interest/passion for kids who require extra support and knows the that play lip service to it, and those who do it well. I have heard mixed things about wellington. Rafflles - both have great learning support, and great early years education....but things can get patchy once the children start getting older. Its an important decision to get right for your whole family, which is why I suggest Fiona

What is it with landlords at the moment...... We have just moved into the lakes, before we secured a place we had landlords increasing what they wanted at the last moment, or deciding they wanted a 2 year lease, and 1 cheques ( for the 2 years...). Now we live here, there are quite a few empty places. 2 that we looked at are still empty ( 2 months on) and another one close by has just become available. Yet they are making demands as if the market is booming......

The egg in baking you can replace with"egg replacer" which the organic store sells "orgran" is the brand. Vegan sites will also have other suggestions, I've heard you can use a tblspn of apple sauce in baking works. If you want to do a custard just use the yolk and add some cornstarch to help thicken..... Tofu scramble instead of eggs for breakfast? Casein is mostly in diary products isn't it? Organic store has lots of milk substitutes, I like oat and almond, though my nephews fav was hazelnut milk Wake I believe is a seaweed, found in Japanese seaweed, agar is a setting agent also derived from seaweed ...interesting you have 2 seaweeds in your reds, cola nut is in coke, or "natural" cokes.

Freckles you should take him to the dr's. My son has had Scarlett fever twice ( it is caused by the strep bacteria), both times in the couple of days before I have had him to the doctor, they have looked at his throat, not seen anything and said oh it's viral.....only to have him come down with a raging fever and bright red cheeks ( Scarlett fever).....they can also start vomiting with it as the toxins from the bugs build up in the blood stream. I know my DS no matter what his fever does not get lethargic unless e is really sick.... Better t be safe than sorry.

I think Mines a pebble - black though, as it was the only colour available when we got it - used for one baby, the only thing "wrong" with it is a 4 cm cut in the fabric, that the airline did. Let me know if you are interested.

Lupa restaurant in the west village - amazing, great for lunch or dinner. Casual Italian The modern dining room at the mom a is one of my all-time fav "posh" restaurants in NYC it also has the more casual bar room, where the food is excellent as well. Blue smoke for ribs Peasant, public and baccaro are all fab restaurants ( baccaro in very reasonabl Cafe gitane, in soho for lunch, also does some of the best coffee in NYC If you like Malaysian Nonya in little Italy is cheap as chips, fantastic food and a great place to stop to eat if your in soho shopping. If you want address's let me know Also the MET does late night on Friday night ( well used too) anyway from memory have a bar, so you can have a glass of bubbles, the sometimes ave a string quartet playing, very civilized....ad if you go to one museum it should ve the MET, though the Frick is definitely under rated.

jS when max went missing, the reason we found him was because of maids that saw him, who got in contact with us ( we offered a reward), so I suggest to print fliers off and go to the playground and hand them out to the maids! Worked for us!
