Hi Lemondrops, You should be giving it every feed, up to the recommended dose. If you notice that your LO is keeping down her feeds with it, but when you don't give it she is not, then it is doing it's job, which is great. But I know with the supply issues here using 5 sachets a day can be a little nerve wracking. Because it works by creating a float on top of the food, which is then digested, they need it to keep the food down. With other reflux meds they reduce the acid production, completely different way of working, and if you can manage it with just Gaviscon, I think that is far better. You also want to prevent the food coming up as it burns their throat....DD had silent reflux, which the ped wouldn't believe, b/c of the burning she developed an aversion to eating......something you definately want to avoid. I am wondering is Cecile advised Plumie to give it after the feed b/c she is breast feeding? Thats what I had to do after DD BF. edited by Mrs Laughan on 14/02/2011

I disagree with your point of view. Of course adopting a pet entails certain responsibilities but in my opinion, child takes priority over pet. Cats and other pets are a leading cause of asthma and allergies in babies. Having said that, just removing the pet does not remove the threat; feline dander can remain in the house for up to 2 years if the house is not properly cleaned. Also, the woman is not abandoning her cat, she is actively seeking a home where her pet will continue to have loving owners. Actually you are quite wrong in many respects, there is a mountian of evidence (and medical research)that if a child lives with cats (and dogs) from a baby they are far less likely to develope these kinds of allergies. There is also a lot of research shows that many of these Allergies are developing in children b/c they are brought up in an environment that is too clean. Yes if you introduce an animal at a later age they can develope an allergy, but if they are exposed as a baby that is very rare - children aren't born with allergies. But with cats and dogs most people are actually allergic to the dust and pollen they carry in their coat. To answer you question about why people ditch the cat when they have a baby, I think people worry about the cat smothering the baby. My in laws got hysterical about the thought of our cats being in the same house as there future grandchild, and put a huge amount of pressure on us to get rid of them. In fact my cat I had ended up with b/c of exactly this situation. The "mother" refused to come home from the hospital with the nbaby until the cats had gone....even though they had had screens fitted to all the doors.

Is the same one.....I don't think he is ticked off - he would have been exhausted, as we had kids around in the morning and was playing with them (he loves kids), so yesterday afternoon when he didn't appear when we got home, I didn't worry, as I thought he was just curled up asleep somewhere. I will take a walk over to the lakes club as he is a bit of a scavenger and may have gone to check out their bins. The only thing I am a bit concerned about is we had a delivery of furniture yesterday, and just hope he didn't climb into the truck...he is very nosey and the other day tried to climb into a friends car - though he had spent a bit of time leaning in the window (from the roof of the car) listening to the conversation before he tried to climb in...... Trying to have a low key approach as don't want DS to get all upset....

MAX is missing - I last saw him yesterday lunchtime, when I removed him from the bonnet of my car (I think he was objecting to us going out) and put him inside..... Didn't come home for dinner or breakfast. We are getting very worried. It's not unlike him to disappear, but never for this long (never missed more than 1 meal) plus he normally sleeps inside at night. He is black and white, wearing an orange collar with his municipality tag on it. He is micro chipped. If anyone has any leads please let us know - about to put up fliers in the neighborhood. Reward offered.

I am sure my mother is a lot older than you...but a couple of years after my Dad died she went on a trip - a tour, and became friendly with this guy...anyway I was gently teasing her one day, when she said very seriously.."Yes it's nice for some companionship, and yes it would be nice to have someone to make your plus one all the time, however the men my age are just after one thing....someone to look after them, now why would I want to be saddled with that? Every time I think of that I laugh, as she is probably right. This was quite a few years ago (My dad passed 15 years ago), and now all her friends husbands are popping their clogs, she has no problem filling her "plus 1"

I do agree with you to a point CT, - but I have lived with and worked with a lot of vegetarions and even some vegans. To be truly vegetarian is hard (let alone vegan), unless you are going to prepare all your food yourself.....for example a lot of asian cuisines contain fish stock or sauce of some sort - miso soup when prepared the traditional way is not vegetarian....I guess it depends why you are vegetarian and how strict you are. Unfortunately all the vegetarians I have known have depended very heavily on Diary product as there source of protien....but maybe thats b/c most of them were NZ'ers;)

We are the same - Max is 18 months, and seriously we now think he has learnt to open the kitchen bin....apparently what is in there is better than whats in his bowl LOL. Easily solved, just have to remember to take the rubbish out every night....no matter how little is in the bin..... Last night I came downstairs to find him half in the microwave eating the cooked chicken I had put aside for DH and my dinner, apparently I hadn't latched the door......

I started reading it...and hated it, thought it was condescending,...I just hated the tone of it. I thought although there was a an element of truth to what they say, felt their views pretty extreme. I didn't want to become vegan - I think if you want to fine, but it is much harder to eat a balanced healthy diet as a vegan, than as an omnivore. It's not a diet book, but found "In Defense of Food" far more informative and interesting...if you read it though you need to understand it comes from a USA view point, and some things are not relevant in other countries. Micheal Pollens whole premise is that humans are omnivores and should eat as such, but that in general the modern diet has become very heavy in red meat and diary (and there are political reasons for that), and they should be part of a modern diet. What he seems to want to educate people about is to be aware of you food soucres.the industrialisation of food production, and to have a varied and unprocessed (as much as possible) diet.

OK, so I didn't have any Hydrogen peroxide, but did have some saline so I have washed all his wounds (he is now one very wet and indignant kitty) - he normally sleeps inside and does have his own "room" so tonight I will lock him in there - he has all the comforts in there that he would need. I am reading with DS class in the morning so DH may take him to the vet...we shall see. Thanks Sue - I was hoping you would be around with what to do. I don't think he is in any real risk (for the next 12 hours, I know puncture wounds are bad - that was why I was so worried), other than infection...I would think an anti biotic shot would be in order....do they do that for cats?

I would say they have attracted a higher percentage of both emirati families, as well as other educated/westernized? Arab families. They want a good education and JBS marketed JBS themselves as having a strong focus on Arabic. In the carpark, they had I would say a much higher proportion of single and double digit number plates thAn any other western school.... With that comes an attitude of expecting things to go their way......how the school manages that would in interesting.....

It was a GEM's school, people are often very happy with it, and to be fair it often comes down to the child, but his teacher was really inexperienced, no idea, and very little support/guidance for her from within the school....though I suspect that part of the problem may have been that she "knew best".....thing is school was not interested in sorting it.

Gems Wellington primary, or raffles always seem to have spots. The wait list is always a debacle, people are always on multiple. Oh I heard that repton may not be full....... If you want a spot now, just pick your top schools and keep on phoning the registrar, though if you have been awhile is there an issue over getting a place now? You don't need a transfer certain for that age........

Park'n'shop has it...they have a couple of different ones - depends on how high you want the "UMF" number Are you sure Organic store doesn't have it....I am sure I saw it in the greens yesterday....though I don't think they one they carry has a UMF number..... I could be wrong about that, they did seem to have lots of out of stocks, but they definately had NZ honey I remember seeing it and thinking"not on my list"

My DS goes to raffles west campus. Raffles gets a hard time on this board, but to be honest comparing it to a school he went too that is quite highly regarded, the quality of teaching staff is far better. Where they let themselves down is on the organisation front, and communication with parents. Having said that DS's teacher is really really good, english is not her mother tongue however, so she does speak with an accent, but that does not bother me....what I am concerned about is the quality of education DS gets in the classroom, and that is fantastic.

I believe to homeschool here your only choice (program recognised by the KDHA) is K12, which is american curriculum. I home schooled for a short period, I did some, but then found we needed a tutor as well, as DS did not want to "work" with me, just do fun stuff. Also I didn't know where to start when it came to teaching to read. You will probably find you spend alot on materials....but K12 should be offer you guidence on that.
