Thanks for your replies. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the word 'expat'...I guess I wanted to make the difference between maid/gardener/gas man and a 'shiny caucasian' (shiny Caucasian!!!). I could have phrased my question better to "would seemingly well off and well-respected people of decent employment and backgrounds and who seem very pleasant, genuine and honest steal from you given half the chance?". I guess only because I would never think of doing that to anyone else whether friend or stranger that i naively think that I can expect the same of others. It makes me feel I'll that one of the many people who have come to my house may have done it. I have turned the house upside down and it's nowhere to be found and thinking back to the last time I saw it. I don't think it was a friend who stole it more an acquaintance. My question was poorly phrased...but the sentiment behind it still stands. Thanks for all the input, really appreciate it Ps: sorry you've been irked, Desert Boot, was generalizing, if you want, when I used the word 'expat'...probably wasn't the best choice in words. I see what you mean, really edited by Mrs_T on 23/04/2011

i should add that...i'm going through a process of elimination over something sentimental which has gone missing from my house. I left something out and i had people round.... so yes: partly due to carelessness on my part that this item has gone missing

Went last year. The atmosphere was fun and the band were pretty good. The food was a let down tho...the chili crab was prepared in a massive pot with a few shreds of crab floating around. They scooped it into the small pre-cleaned crab shells and you got 2 lousy bits of bread to mop it up. The taste wasn't at all authentic either... The noodles were too oily...and cheap noodles too. A complete and utter rip off too! The best chili crab in Dubai is at chimes and it's around 120dhs for a proper mud crab. You can also get pepper crab too. They deliver too. Don't waste your time or money there

We camped there about 2 years ago. Whilst the mangroves are very beautiful, the camping was ok. The beach at kalba is used for fishing so whilst it was interesting to watch the fisherman throw and bring in nets there were also lots of dead fish lying around in various stages of decay. The sea there is not as nice as say, musandam, but maybe thAt was our bad luck. If I remember rightly kalba is not that far from the power plant either.. In the late afternoon there were lots of quad bikers and cars racing up and down the beach...some even being as reckless as riding their quad bikesand doing wheelspins and tricks between our tent and the fire...maybe they were trying to tell us something. The beach is vast and we were the only ones there...go figure. The cars also seemed to love to race along the waters edge..where the kids were playing. They got bored about 8pm thankfully It wasn't one of our best camping experiences which is a shame as it is nearer than musandam and we haven't felt the need to go back...preferring to drive further to musandam. Maybe it was just our unlucky day... Hope you enjoy it though. Maybe we'll give it another go edited by Mrs_T on 22/03/2011

Just thought I'd update... Went to karama post office at 8am on tuesday and it was dead...I was seen straightaway. I took MBs advice and they said Ll was in order,,,and I would get my passport back on Monday. It arrived back today..painless procedure... Though I can confirm that you do need a hotel confirmation and you will only find this out when you get there. Iwhilst i was waiting for them to type out my form I was nosing at the notice board and it is a requirement that came into force at the time of the commonwealth games. Visa is valid for 3 months and is a single entry visa. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks for the tip miss balamory... I went to check today even with my letter I need a hotel confirmation so I'll do just that. Just out of interest...is the visa valid from time of entry or time of issue or according to the hotel booking... The 24th is a special black out date so no cancellation allowed on that day so I have just requested from 25th jan. Also will I have to show my hotel confirmation docs upon arrival?
