This is happening an awful lot in London, it is not specifically Arab people who are being targeted. its any wealthy area. Scary !

LH, I had a very simple sleeveless top copied from an original, made by Coventry tailors and they charged AED175, Dreamgirls would probably have cost AED100 for the same. I don't mind paying more if I get a better quality, but I still had to go back twice for them to get it right. I have also tried a VERY expensive tailor, Tatiana, she charged AED1200 for a short cocktail dress, one side of the neck was crooked and when they tried to fix it, they made it even worse. It was also very uncomfortable to wear. All these prices are excluding fabric. There are lots of fabric shops in Satwa, best quality and choice is Regal.

Well, the first thing I would ask you is. are you 100% sure this is an accurate depiction of the situation ? if yes, then report it anonymously so the sponsors can be held accountable for their actions.

I have not had good experience with Dreamgirls, nothing was ever right. I have also tried Coventry tailors but didn't think much of them either, a bit better than Dreamgirls and much more expensive. Poor quality workmanship all round, if I am honest. Others have recommended a british tailor in Satwa, I think the shop is called Montexa, (double check it) and say she is excellent for evening and bridal gowns. Good luck

Would you try a naturopath ? I have booked an appointment with Dr. Amel at Chiron Clinic for Celiac Disease test, and I got the appointment within 2 weeks. She is Canadian and well qualified. Tel: 04 349 7444. The test costs around AED2,700, hoping my insurance will cover it. edited by mum2girls on 22/04/2014

Yes, we received notification from DAA about the possibility of the new schedule. I really hope it goes ahead, the original DAA school calendar for 2015 was ridiculous.

yes, you are right Sandfly, I just googled it. "And then with my second child, it was a lot easier but I had a sort of thyroid problem, which is quite good actually because you can eat whatever you want, you don't have to have medication and you don't just don't gain any weight, ever." It sounds like she is talking about being hyperthyroid with the eating and not putting on weight. My sister had hyperthyroidism during her pregnancy and she was most definitely on medication, the medication makes you put on weight. I wonder if she was not taking medication so she stayed thin !

I was just looking at some of her photos and wondering if maybe she had an undiagnosed or untreated thyroid problem. In some photos, her eyes are really bulging out and the severe weightless could be caused by hyperthyroid, which can destroy the heart if it is left untreated.

So sad. She looked exceptionally thin and anorexic in some of those recent photo's with her babies, even so she still had such a very pretty face. Bob Geldof's statement was heartbreakingly raw. RIP

I have no problem paying Satwa prices, it's the cr*p they produce that I have a problem with. Just had an expensive mistake at Coventry Tailors, a simple sleeveless top cost AED150 to make and the workmanship was utter rubbish.

Really sorry you are facing this, it must be scary. Honestly, fif you haven't already, I would have a 2nd opinion in Europe or the US immediately, then decide. If it's malignant then you will probably want it removed ASAP if that is an option. If it's benign, and depending where it is, you might decide to take a monitoring and wait and see approach. A friend has a benign brain tumor and has opted for the monitoring and wait & see, she is not based here though and is with a top specialist in a New York. Good Luck whatever you decide. edited by mum2girls on 06/04/2014

Most schools offer ELL, English language learners, for non English speaking pupils. It is amazing how quickly kids pick up English at school. Would certainly try to get them into a school that goes right up to high school, to minimize further disruption if you can. The good (and bad) thing about Dubai is that they won't be the only new kids in school, there is a lot of movement in schools here. It's always a worry when you have a shy child facing a new environment, hopefully it won't be too much of a challenge for her. Try to choose a school that is near to where you will live, that will help you narrow it down. Good luck with the move

Tell her to find herself a lawyer and send the ex a cease & desist letter as a starter, a lawyer will advise her on the steps to take. Announcing to her friends and parents or going to the police would be a last step. edited by mum2girls on 02/04/2014

It is definitely doable, but not sure if it is always workable. My friend bought 4 seats for 2 adults and 1 child, on a long flight from Sydney to London. On the return trip the airline put a standby passenger into their 'spare' seat on the return trip. They kicked up a fuss about it, but it was too late to do anything as the flight was boarded and about to take off. It was so complicated to get a refund on their ticket as it had been partly used, it took them forever.

I feel for you ! My DD has struggled since starting school too, we really were not proactive about finding out the real cause, instead we paid for years of tutoring for her. She is very musical, so we passed it off as "everyone can't be a genius and her thing is music" As she went into higher grades she was lagging further and further behind, and she was becoming very aware of it, she would get so upset that she always 'misunderstood' things. One of her teachers hinted that she might be ADD, that hint drove us to having her assessed by an Educational Psychologist, Dr. Ruba Tabari , who comes very well recommended here in Dubai. (reportedly the best Ed Psych in these parts). The assessment, part of which was a classroom observation, identified her challenges and also identified that her intelligence was extremely high, her issue is with processing language, something we would never have imagined was the cause of her learning difficulties.. Dr. Ruba gave recommendations for a remedial programme and also came to the school to explain her findings and suggestions for how the teacher and school could help on a daily basis. She is now seeing a speech and Language therapist and having learning support at school. If you have not had your daughter assessed, that should be the first thing you do before considering moving schools. If you have had her assessed, than maybe get a second opinion before you make any drastic moves. There is a lot of support now for kids with learning difficulties. Most mainstream schools have learning support departments, so pursue every option before considering moving her to a special school, Good luck, don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions.

Absolutely agree, There were some stunning outfits, but they obviously didn't bother entering into the best dressed competition, not everyone would sign themselves up for best dressed and parade on a stage. If you look at the other contestants in the photo with her, they were not too inspiring either. That being said, her dress did meet the criteria for modesty, I was shocked at how inappropriately some people were dressed, usually people who could ill afford to wear a bottom skimming dress.

I don't think the new combination is working at all. Kenny & Accalia were great together, they had a great rapport. But it is just not working with the new girls, they are utterly boring and have no presence whatsoever. I have now tuned out and reluctantly tuned into Virgin radio. Really, in all honesty, I could not recommend the Saudi German, we went there for an emergency visit with my DD. My Paeditrician suggested that we should go to Al Zahra hospital in future. Have been to City hospital emergency a few times, and while the waiting room is always busy, the Dr.'s are great. edited by mum2girls on 24/03/2014

Yes , it's a nightmare for these poor people to get this paperwork. There is no appointment system at the polo office and they only see 250 people per day. My helper was there at 4.30am and she was number 160. She said people were there from midnight for an office opening of 8am. Some people were there for the third day, because they missed the 250. The Philippine government should be ashamed of the way they treat their own people. So disrespectful, It's a disgrace

Maldives is close, If you don't want a sea-plane or helicopter transfer there are some great resorts just 20 minutes from Male airport. Four Seasons Kuda Hura has a great kids club. Mauritius also has great family resorts, but I think we had a 2 hour car transfer from the airport. There are no direct flights to Bali so you have to change at Jakarta and take the dreaded Garuda Airline to Denpaser, unless you fly via Singapore. Beaches in Maldives and Mauritius are far superior to the Bali beaches, but Bali is more interesting if you want to tour around and certainly has more culture.

Is she Philippino ? I am always surprised when I see my helper and her friends dress up to go out, they can dress quite raunchy, loads of makeup and they are just going to walk round the Mall. Loads of selfies in every pose imaginable show up on her Facebook. I wouldn't want her though to have my kids taking photos of her and certainly don't want her taking photos of my kids. Regarding the dating sites, despite having a boyfriend/husband back home, a lot of them are looking for a ticket out of the life they lead, so they are looking for any westerner who can give them a better life.

If he is not convicted, it will rest solely with the police and their screw-ups. I really doubt they can charge him with pre-meditated murder now that the lawyer had dropped their ascertain that he had his prosthetic legs on while he was shooting, I thought that was the crux of their case for pre-meditation. Looks like the prosecutors are scared to put the original detective, Botha, on the stand. He was a real loose cannon.

Exactly, it is all on the shoulder of one judge. The damming evidence so far, is that ALL of the neighbours heard a female screaming. The Dr. had a good answer when the lawyer again, tried to state that it was Oscar's screams he heard, he answered something to the effect, 'it could have been him, if he had two different voices". edited by mum2girls on 07/03/2014

QueenL, he IS being tried for pre-meditated murder, those are the charges against him. Also, they don't have trials by jury in S. Africa, it is a single judge who will decide, not even a panel of judges.

The Dr.'s testimony yesterday was powerful, it definitely lends weight to Oscar's version of events. If it really was pre-meditated would he have been trying to revive her? be as devastated as the Dr. describes? Will be interesting to hear the testimony of the first person who arrived at the scene.

I think it is going to be really interesting when they put the detectives on the stand, especially the detective who was first on the scene and who, apparently, really botched up the investigation, who contaminated the scene and made unsubstantiated claims about what had happened, he is a bit of a loose cannon. Also, I read that the results of the toxicology and alcohol tests have not been released yet, which is strange because it seems everything else has been disclosed.

I also don't want him to be guilty of murder. I really hope it was an accident. He has overcome so much in his life and he has shown so much determination by being able to participate in the olympics against able bodied sportsmen. It's' clear he was already 'jumpy' as he had previously posted on his twitter account that he had pulled out his gun thinking someone was in the house. So much does not make sense though, that I also fear he might be guilty

I think it depends on the quality of clothes people pass on. If you get a suitcase of clothes that are in a bad condition, stained, faded, torn, than I too would not be happy about it, it's insulting. Trying to see if I'm missing something here.......why would you be insulted? I've been passed down clothes before that aren't in great condition. I've either passed them to charity if they are passable or binned them if not. It's never crossed my mind to be insulted. Maybe 'insulted' is the wrong word, but I would not be happy if I was dumped with loads of unwearable clothes. I have never passed on clothes that are unwearable and I have never received items which were unwearable. I would never pass on clothes to anyone, without asking them first if they would like to receive them.

I have had lots of conversations with her over the years suggesting she saves her bonus, babysitting money, money our guests give her and sending home only her salary. Even once told her bluntly that her husband was blowing her earnings, when she was regularly looking for salary advances and loans. I have offered to set up a savings account for her, offered to save it on her behalf and the answer is always the same, " My family need my salary every month". 3 years later her salary has almost doubled and she has nothing to show for it. When she told me about the iPhone for her daughter, I pointedly told her not to tell my daughter as she has been asking for one too, but would not be getting one until she is much older as they are too expensive for a child. It totally went over her head. I did ask her if she is planning to sell all this stuff for a profit when she gets back home (Philippines), but no, it's all gifts for family who don't even have a front door on their home. It beggars belief, but as everyone says, it's her money and she can spend it as foolishly as she wants. It just makes it difficult to be compassionate when listening to the hardship stories.
