We don't have one, what I have heard is that you need to keep updating the maps very regularly as the roads here change almost daily, with new roads and bypasses being built all the time. Good luck with your move.

Lakes would be my first choice, it's a great community, it's got 2 nursery schools, health centre and the house builds are apparently better quality than the other communities as it was the first one to be built.

Oasis Beach Towers on JBR is another option, although the building work there and traffic are a nightmare.

Interesting ....... the Kate Winslet one went too far, the 'before' looked much better. Thom Yorke (no clue who he is though) was too funny, they even 'fixed' his drooping eyelid. Some of them look great in the before, Jennifer Aniston, Charlotte Johanssen, even Madonna's before photo looked good. I really do think that touched up photos should be banned from magazine's, there have been some very bizarre one's on front covers of some big name magazines, that have looked nothing like the person, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nicole Kidman have all ended up looking very strange on magazine covers.

Well, she hasn't actually arrived back yet, she could try and drag this out for another few weeks. Whatever you do now, you still have / are being hugely inconvenienced and it is going to cost you one way or another. Personally, I would let her come back to work, all the while looking for the right person to replace her, and as soon as you find her replacement, send her back to her home country with a ban. BTW, when she comes back, make sure you get her to sign something to confirm that you have paid for a flight for her and given her salary / holiday money in advance. You have no hope of getting it back when you fire her, but at least when she leaves the country finally she cannot claim you have not paid her. Good Luck, you must be rightly furious, I really don't understand how these people do not have a conscience, there is an epidemic of lying and cheating amongst domestic workers. edited by mum2girls on 27/06/2013

Someone having the same problem as you posted this last year "Phew - there's a visa center opening in the Wafi mall on the 5th. Just in case someone else might be interested. You can walk in without prior appointment for extra 150 dhs ('VIP' - haha). Good stuff!" maybe follow up on that option by showing up in person ...........you know what it is like here when trying to get an accurate answer to something

Lolacat, no I didn't have to ! he knew he was late and he knew I was waiting. Immediately I walked into his office he was on his feet apologising, if he had totally ignored the fact I was waiting over an hour, I probably would have mentioned it in a 'oh you must be very busy, I have been waiting x time'., but I definitely would have mentioned it.

I have waited twiddling my thumbs, in many a waiting room for a Dr. , but all have acknowledged the delay and apologised immediately. Just recently I waited an hour for an orthopaedic Dr. at Medcare, and the secretaries could not fill me in on when he would be available, but when he did show up, he was more than apologetic, explaining that things had just snowballed for him since the morning etc. etc. I was already getting a bit antsy and was about to leave when he finally showed up and he apolgised profusely, explaining that things had just snowballed since his first appointment that morning. If he had not even acknowledged that I had waited for him that long, I would have been irritated and certainly would have reminded him about the long wait. I think at the very least the OP's Dr. should have acknowledged the delay and apologised, her reaction to the patient pointing it out to her is certainly over the top and not acceptable.

I remember someone posting here that they went to VFS global office in Jumeriah, and they were able to do a priority submission. Call VFS global office and see what can be done. Once you get past VFS and the restrictive appointment scheduling, the rest is usually really quick. Good luck.

Mart, no it is not him, you are in good hands with Dr. Tahir. That is who I had recommended to my friend, but she could not get an appointment with him. I have been to Dr. Tahir with my daughter and he is excellent, I would go to him if I was having any cosmetic treatment. Dr. Tahir is a cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon, trained and worked in the UK and Ireland, I have nothing but good things to say about him and the quality and outcome of treatment my daughter received. The Dr my friend went to is a Dermatologist.

My cousin teaches at a Choueifat school (not in the UAE). She has a marketing degree and worked for a Hotel Spa before she was hired by Choueifat to teach 6 year olds. She had a 6 week training in the Sabis method before she started teaching, that is the extent of her teacher training. She hates everything about the school and the teaching method, as do most of the 'teachers' apparently. She is sticking it out for another few years to make money, she makes a lot of extra cash tutoring kids as young as 5.

Just to update, she eventually had to pay to see a Cosmetic surgeon privately back home. He told her that the filler was injected too superficially and too much injected, which usually happens in the hands of someone inexperienced. I found the Dr.'s name for her on this forum, he was recommended on more than one occasion here, I guess the fact he was the only one who could give her an appointment within 2 days should have rung alarm bells. Luckily she had nothing permanent or major done.

Yes, Sarahlou, it was the Nakheel project which is off plan and apparently queues of people there to buy, they had to release an additional 50% of the project to meet the demand. A few weeks ago it was the Emaar project where the police had to be called to control those queuing to purchase off-plan. I know things are booming again in the property market, but unbuilt projects being snapped up is surprising.

Another report in 7 Days today about the scramble to purchase newly released unbuilt Villas. A few weeks ago it was reports of fighting breaking out between those who were queuing to buy properties. If I had the money I would certainly buy a property here now, however I wouldn't touch an unbuilt project with a barge pole, so I find it interesting that there appears to be hundreds and hundreds of people out there desperate to buy off plans. Do you think this is an accurate picture ? or is it just the 2 developers posturing against each other ?

RuthM that is awful, hope you are okay now ! If you are prepared to go to a Gym instead of having someone come to you, then I can highly recommend SMART Fitness in JLT. It is a really friendly place and the location is great as it is at the end of JLT, Abu Dhabi side, so it's good access to SZD Rd. Their trainers are all top notch, highly qualified, very experienced and motivated, quite a few of them are from the UK and Scotland, my friend and I go there and have been for several months now and we both love it there. Best trainers I have come across in Dubai without a shadow of doubt. I have tried PT's at other gyms to no avail, until I finally realised I was just throwing good money after bad and quit. Good Luck with it finding the right one here, it took me a while, there are some awful ones here but some great ones too.

I found the gynae at HealthbayPolyclinic, Dr. Liliana Skorski, to be really good. I was impressed with her, I thought she was very thorough. But I went only for check up, didn't have any specific problem which required treatment. Good luck, it is always wise to get a second or even third opinion.

haha PPM that too funny ! I would choke if it was them. Daily Mail have done a very serious job on 'exposing' the affair, won't be long now until they will have to break their cover. Apparently rumours are swirling about the identities, so they really will have to disclose who is involved as innocent people are going to have the finger pointed at them!

Feemick, I am so sorry to hear all you are going through. Just looking at your background though, could you not find a job in one of the schools here ? Counsellor or Sports coach? In some of the big schools, as a staff member, your girls schooling would be free or at least reduced, visas would be sorted and you could be independent of your DH. It's just a shame the timing of all this, you really are being forced to make an overnight decision without the opportunity to try to try to find a solution for what is best for you and your girls. BTW are you sure his earnings are terrible and there are no benefits with his job ? I hope he is being honest with you about the finances.

My DH's viewpoint is the opposite. His view is that his time off with his family is precious, so if he has a day off he wants the maid to be working ! He really believes that her day off should be during the week, when he is working and the kids are at school, so that she is around on the weekend when he is off. Doesn't happen of course, but that is his ideal scenario !!!

It depends really, it's totally flexible and at my discretion. If we need her if we are having guests or for babysitting etc, then she will work, I pay her a little bit extra, but if we don't need her than she can take the day or half a day off.

Usually a full mesh, cut, blow-dry and a treatment. I usually end up buy some products too, so it's probably not exactly AED1300. I paid similar elsewhere and had my hair ruined, still trying to repair it.

Finally through it, can't see any evidence of a car accident, and no change to the normal 1 lane road. Think it might have been the result of the lone person directing traffic around the building work, he might need a little bit more training.

We were not impressed at all last October when we took our little one late at night, the Paeditrician on call was pretty clueless and misdiagnosed her. When I asked the Paeditrician this week about where he would suggest we take the kids in an out of hours emergency, I specifically asked him about the Saudi German, and he said absolutey not.

Sorry, I don't know of any Doctors clinics which are open on a Friday I just asked our Paeditrician, the other day, where he would recommend for out of hours emergencies. He said American, City and another new hospital near Sheikh Zayed (but I can't remember the name of it) have really good paediatricians. Do not even think of Saudi German as an option !. Do you have your Paeditrician's mobile number that you can call him and ask for advice ? Hope your baby feels better soon, high temps and rash are always scary, but usually turn out to be nothing serious.

For me, that is the hardest part of being an expat, your kids missing out on the closeness of family and not having their grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins around. I am sorry your sister is being so difficult, I do feel for your sister and Mum though, even if they are not handling it very well. I find that always having an idea of when the next visit/trip will be, really helps with the partings. When we leave home at end of August, we will be saying 'See you in October ! Hopefully they will come out to Dubai for regular visits and maybe you will travel back home for the summer months like a lot of us do. Once you move to Dubai, EVERYONE will come here to visit you. In some ways, when we do spend time with our families, the quality time is on a different level then if we just lived around the corner. And of course there is also Skype.

Yesterday at MOE, I was talked into trying Benefits Pore -fessional. I don't think it actually treats the pores, but it really makes them appear to vanish. I was amazed at the difference it made, my skin look sooo good and smooth. It can be applied under makeup or just wear it alone, it's slightly tinted. It feels incredibly silky on the skin, so I think it must have silicone in it or something. I didn't buy it there and then because I am normally highly allergic, so I wanted to see how my skin would react and unfortunately my face was red by the evening and is still red today, which is a real bummer, because I was sold on it. However, despite the reaction, I will buy it and use it for a special occasion where I won't care if my face is red for a few days afterwards. If you don't have super sensitive skin, you really should give it a try it !
