I'm starting on Sunday. Have a special party of Friday and might need one day to nurse a hangover :cool: Do find the idea a bit daunting and will need to follow it for a long time as I have a lot to loose. Gemm3210 thanks for the link. It's a bit more exciting then the Dukan meal plan and there aren't a lot of boiled eggs featured (which I can't stand). Good to hear that you've had some good customer service. I've been to Spur a few times, especially when DH is feeling a bit homesick and must say the service has always been very good! I've noticed (having been spoilt by living in London for a while) that often the quality of the food isn't very good here. Staff just don't seem to care and are often have no clue as to what they are serving or what's on the menu.Have been doing a lot more cooking at home as it's often better then when we go out. However I am still looking for a good 'authentic Italian' pizza place here in Dubai.

What about buying them some new bedding. It's an easy and not too expensive way of changing the look of the bedroom. Add a couple of scented candles and maybe a 'Just married' banner and a nice bottle of something in the fridge with a couple of chocolates and you're all set! Really nice of you to do this and what a lovely thing for them to come home to!

If you liked it as much as we do, it might be worthwhile to buy one of those special roasting trays form Weber. They do one where you can pour liquid (beer, wine, coke, whiskey ) into a cup and then you place the chicken on top of it and there is also a tray underneath for any spillage or fat dripping out from your chicken. It's a bit safer then just using a can as the beer inside gets very hot and it's very easy to spill and burn yourself!

Through EW I managed to find a good hairdresser, but she has so little time I'm finding it difficult to be able to make an appointment with her. I had an appointment for this afternoon, but she cancelled. My hair is looking terrible at the moment and I really really need someone to cut it and give me some new highlights. I have lots of very straight, very fine hair so need someone who can work with that hair type. TIA.

Tempur is great!!! We bought a new mattress a few months ago and I LOVE it. We went to the show room on Al Wasl road and tried all the different types. We didn't go for the original as we found we sank into that too much. I felt like I was never going to be able to get up ever again. I can't remember the name of the one we went for, but it's a bit firmer and less 'squidgy'. Both of us now sleep much better and I snore much less then I used to.

If I were you I would bring your own furniture. You can buy lots of furniture here, but it either quite expensive or not a very good quality. I've also found that when moving around a lot if really helps to have your own things with you as it will make you feel at home straight away!

Do you have a playstation or anything like that. IMHO teenagers are happy lookiing at screens for hours on end and although maybe not the greatest form of entertainment nor very educational it will keep him happy and occupied untill the sun goes down and you'll be able to do something in the evening.

Whatever you do, do not add water to melting chocolate. It will go horrible and lumpy. Just add cream and the you will have a lovely creamy yummy goo that you can dip things in.

Thanks so much desertrose. I'm so happy to hear that it is possible. It's still early days yet as FIL hasn't started treatment yet and we'll need to see first how it goed and he will need to speak to the Docter before he even considers coming here, but it's great that there are good facilities out here for visiting patients. To be honest 900aed is less then I expected and a small price to pay if it means he can come over and visit us. It's the equivalent of dinner for four at many a restaurant in Dubai, so if we skip that we'll be fine ;)

Bowbellscowbells, where is this lady exactly? I really need some new bra's but haven't been able to find anything that fits. Do you know what brands she sells? I love Prima Donna, but haven't been able to find it here. TIA. I wash all my whites on 60 .. and handwash my bras .. cause I'm obsessed with white underwear .. I dont dry in the sun .. because they go stiff and horrid ... and I only buy white sloggi's or skin colour ... I think white linen/cotton goes a proper funny colour here ... greyish .. then I use a dylon or the other stuff(whitener) to pop them back to white .. if they look off colour and it wont go back to the original colour they get dumped .. there is a fabulous bra lady in the Arabian Ranches app ... stocks upto FF cup ...

The only thing that seems to work for my DH is a shampoo with Dead Sea Salts. Whatever you do stay away from Head&Shoulders as it will only make things worse! If you have tried many things, maybe it's time to go down the alternative route and look at Homeopathy for instance. They can often help with issues like this.

Why not try having something made? If you don't like it you can always get something when you get back. There is a lady tailor in Satwa. She is in the same building as dream girls tailors, but on the inside (there is court yard in the middle). The shop is called Exclusive Tailors. She might be able to give you some good ideas and she really seems to know what she is talking about when it comes to covering 'flabby' bits and making you look as good as you can! Otherwise Debbenhams is a good place to start and get some inspiration.

What about one of those Philips lamps that changes colour. You direct them at a wall and they rotate the colours (you can make them softer or brighter). Or give her a 'new' toy each day. Just make sure it it something that is age appropriate and rotate the toys.

As far as a romantic dinner is concerned, there is nothing that beats a nice home cooked meal, mostly because it's just a short walk to the bedroom from there ;) That could be too much, too soon in which case I'll let the other girls advise you on where to go!

Are those the only vegetables you have at the moment? Maybe the turn it into some kind of curry. I.e. use the beef strips and the veg and just add lots of spices and maybe some stock. Otherwise there is always spaghetti Bolognese. Lots of recipes available, but I usually do this: Dice and onion, a carrot and a celery stick finely. Fry off in some oil. Turn up the heat and add the mince. Once browned add two cans of tomato or a bottle of passata. Add some oregano and some cinemon and some read wine if you like. Leave to simmer for as long as you like. Add a tiny bit of sugar and/or cream if the sauce is a bit too sharp. Or, fry off the steaks (or chops) and put some garlic butter on top. Serve with vegetables. I like some spinach or carrots with them. Good Luck!

I feel so lucky with the people that I have met here so far. We arrived knowing one person and she introduced us to all her friends and we sort of latched on. We've become like this weird family unit. I still keep meeting new people and just 'adding' them to the group! Once you've met some people you need to 'invest' in the relationship for friendships to be allowed to bloom. Clearly there is no time at school for much socializing, so make time elsewhere in the week. Invite some of the Mums round for coffee, invite the parents of your LO's friends round for a drink over the weekend/after a play date, go to coffee mornings, join a club of some sort and find like minded people there etc etc etc. Not everybody will turn out to be your friend and you might find that you will not be invited back, don't worry about that, clearly they are not the right friends for you. I hope that you will find the right kind of people soon. There are some women reaching out to you on here right now. Take the plunge and invite them round for some coffee or even better some grape juice!

Miss Pickle, it is part of growing up that teenagers should start doing things by themselves and going to the movies in a mall seems innocent enough. If you never let you children have any freedom how will they ever learn to fend for themselves and become independent? It is awful that things like this happen and especially in a place like Dubai which seems so safe. Antykazza I think you should be very proud of your son and I am glad to see that at least someone stepped in to help him. I hope that if I ever came across a situation like that, that I too would have the courage to help someone like you son.

Asking 'Why' in response to any question I ask him. Even when it's something like: could you please take out the garbage. Oh and completely switching off when there is a screen of any kind involved. Be it the tv, a laptop or his crack berry. Seriously sometimes I end up literally shouting his name or standing between him and the screen to get his attention.

Laundry is the worst!!! First there's the sorting, then the actual washing (easy enough) then the remembering to take it out in time and hanging it up, taking it down, folding and ironing and putting it away................. Just too much work!!

One thing that drives me crazy is that a lot (young?) people in South Africa have started leaving 'are' out of a sentence. So for instance: we going to the beach. It drives me insane and every time I see people do it on facebook I just want to post : ARE. Honestly I would even settle for just and 'r'. To me it sounds like small children learning to speak English.:\:

I agree with Rotetho, Nemo is great. There are lots of things that the children are allowed to touch and they can run around! Artis is always great too! The Netherlands is quite child friendly and you can take your child into virtually any restaurant or pub. The trains and trams are great and easy to take a stroller on. Another nice idea is to go for 'Pannenkoeken' (pancakes). These types of restaurants are very suited to children too. You will also find some really nice shops and boutiques to buy children's clothing (HEMA, V&D). There is also a great selection of good quality leather shoes in fun colours for children. If you walk through the area of the Jordaan called the Negen straatjes (nine streets) you will find lots of fun little shops. The Vondelpark is nice too if your little one want to run around for a bit. If you want to head our of Amsterdam then the Zaanse Schans is a nice destination. It is quite touristy, but nice if you haven't been there before.
