Love living in the Ranches! Taking a gamble here, but are you Dutch too? The best thing about living here imho is that you can cycle here!

Ulla Popken in MCC has some nice stuff. Debenhams have some collections which go up to size 22 as does Monsoon.

Just make sure the rubber is completely dry and maybe wipe it down with something like ammonia just to kill all the last germs. Remove the soap tray and clean it out completely and maybe do a very hot empty wash load as well before you clean and dry it. I am sure the removal company will have something they can use to block the drum and can advise you on how best to pack it. If the move is being paid for then I would definitely bring over your washing machine. I am quite attached to mine and I will take it if and when we move again.

What is MY BOX and how does it work? (and how much does it cost?) Does it mean you have a letter box and they deliver post to your door? Am fed up with only receiving post via DH office. Not everything arrives, but am never sure if the is due to the post room or Em post. Hope the installation goes well today and that there will be no damages!

What about leaving a word out. It seems to mainly affect South Africans, including my BIL and SIL. They leave out are. As in 'we going to the beach'. It drives me bonkers and I just want to shout at them it's ARE going!! It's just one little word that only sounds like one little letter so stop being lazy and use it!:\: I think its just your inlaws.... Im South African and dont leave out words, neither do any of my friends. No offence meant Appletiser. Obviously not all South Africans do it! My DH doesn't either, but a lot of his friends etc do. Maybe it is Western Cape slang? I don't know, but I see it on FB a lot and heard it many times this summer. Either way I still find it extremely annoying no matter who says it!

Literally, all the time and stuff. As in: I literally died last night. I talk to my Mum all the time. I couldn't come to your party because I had stuff to do. O and Synergy... what a stupid word!!

GattaMatta, I'm sorry to hear you had such a horrible experience... Brazilianindubai, thanks for the excellent advice! Which driving school did you attend? Good to know in advance that they do a bit of scaremongering. I was expecting to have to attended theory classes as well as practical lessons. Just a bit surprised that they are only 30min. Seems very short. But from DubaiMaman's response I can see you can do back to back lessons. DubaiMaman I might just do that, take mutiple back to back lessons everyday and get it over and done with! Please tell me that most cars are automatic and not manual!! Did 10 manual lessons when I turned 18 and it was an absolute nightmare!!

Thanks DubaiMaman, that sounds encouraging! How many lessons did they take a week? At the moment I'm not working so have lots of time but am looking for a job as well. Hopefully I will find a job before I finish my licence, so might have to take lessons on the weekend and in the evening. I don't have a license from another country as I have never really needed to drive and always had my bicycle to take me around. Still cycle here (around AR) but getting very fed up with the taxi's!! Also having a license will broaden my job opportunities.

Finally at the age of 29 I have decided to try and get my driving licence. I would love advise from those that have done it here. Which driving school did you use? Is there much difference between the difference driving schools? Did you have a male or female instructor? (If they were good please mention their name!). How long did it take you to get your licence? How scary were those first lessons  ? TIA!!!

It's not just banks here. I got a letter from the four letter bank from the UK asking me for a certificate of tax residency.... Hello? This Dubai! There is not tax authority. Furthermore they need it to inform the UK HM revenue and costums of interest paid. But we don't even receive any intertest! Anybody else had this? What should I do?

I know it's a lot of money but it is so worth it! We worked out the cost of sleeping on it per year and it worked out to be less then 300 pounds a year as they give a 10 year guarantee on the mattress. That's less then a quid a night and considering how much time of your life you spend in bed it's a bargain.

According to my friend who is from Belgium, the home of the Pomme Frites you need to shake the basket of chips/frites 36 times when you take it out of the fat. No more, no less. At his favourite chippy no matter if there is 1 costumer or 100 costumers waiting the chips get shaken 36 times. Also you only put the salt on once you get home as salt draws out the moisture making the chips soggy. According to him the use of vinegar is a crime but he will happily slather them in (home made, bien sur!) Mayonaise. Mmmmm thinking of making some now! Any tips on what potatoes to use???

I just bought some white couverture chocolate from spinneys in MC. I buy the Lindt 65%cocao chocolate when I want dark chocolate. It's expensive but very yummy. I add some cream and sugar if I think it's too bitter. HTH Ps. The whithe chocolate was next to the cheese counter across from the cakes and I first thought it was cheese...

Fairwater I've seen pictures taken from the air where you can see the sharks swimming right off the coast in SA. Not sure if it was in Durban, but that put me off swimming in the sea (and sea!) for a while :D edited by muurtje on 23/10/2011

Hmm now also considering Cyprus. DH has worked really hard and he needs to go somewhere where he can just relax, so maybe Cyprus would be a better option. Still keeping Sri Lanka in mind. Fairwater sorry to hear you didn't have a nice holiday. I was kind of hoping for serenity and your holiday didn't sound very serene. Initially I was thinking of Thailand but don't want to go where all the tourists go. Any tips on resorts that side would be welcome too. The search continues!

Not sure but maybe your dh thinks you are too focused on the outcome of having intercourse. He wants to do it to be close to you and because of the end result :D Maybe all this ovulation focus makes it feel like a task for him?

There was a thread yesterday regarding a trouser press and on that website they also had bathroom things such as tissue boxes and toilet brushes. Can't remember if there were gold ones... HTH 300 pounds for a toilet brush :\: I always buy mine for ikea and never spend more then 10dhs which means I can replace them on a regular basis. edited by muurtje on 16/10/2011

Thanks for the replies ladies. Just need to figure out which of these would be best for me. Still hoping to find someone on here with firsthand experience of NLP. Have to admit that I'm feeling a bit lost with regards to the different counsellors, methods and therapies and only asked about NLP because a family friend experienced great results with it and now practices herself.

Ingrid, that would exclude me once again. I'm Dutch and only have a Dutch passport and learnt to speak English while living in Hong Kong as a child. Have lived in South Africa and in the Uk. Not trying to be difficult, but just trying to point out how complicated the issue is. Just trying to point out that by stating it in these ways you might be excluding people who might be very suitable for the job. This ties in nicely to the 'where are you from' thread by the way.

Out of interest, technically I am not a native english speaker, but I personally think that my english is vey good and I only have a slight accent. I speak mostly English with my DH as it is his first language and have been speaking it since I was about six. Would you consider hiring me? I have seen so many jobs adds that state native English speakers only, but what about people like me? I get the feeling that many people might just disregard my appication at once as English is my second language.

Think it depends on the size... Us king size is not the same size as European king size. Getting very fed up with all these different sizes... Our mattress is 180x200 and I'm struggling to find a nice surround for it as most of the ones that I like are US sizes. Have bedding (especially pillow cases) in so many different sizes!!!

For me an unusual name that I came across is Ceinwen. Love the name also because I love the person. Heard of people who called their daughter Hammer aparently because they liked what it stands for... Not a fan of names that are made by putting together bit of two other names. You end up with things like Rosalanie and Lingretta. I have (at least where I come from) a fairly unusual name and as much as I love it and what it means it does get a bit much with people miss spelling and miss pronouncing it all the time....
