DC does not have a feeder school, entrance is based on how the individual does at the DC entrance exam and I know of children who have gone from JPS, Kings, JESS, JAPS and many others.

Hi Newdxb Thanks for the response. Not sure how it would work in terms of practicality as the schools are different sites but thanks for the offer. Re play dates, let me know when you are here and which springs you will be in :-).

HI there I just returned from the UK and have my envelope as the staff at the customs desk took my form and said they would post it for me. Anyway, the postal address I have on my envelope is: Premier Tax Free (UK) LTD, Freepost Sea12084, Merstham, Surrey, Great Britain, RH1 3ZU. Tel No: +44 1737 644922. There should be a space on your form to write your credit card details. Happy to pass on the envelope if you would like it. It may be worth checking if anyone is flying to the UK soon and can post it for you? Hope you get it sorted.

Sorry to jump on the thread but how do you define a maids room for rental calculator? We are in 3 bed plus maids and our Landlord said this is counted as a 4 bed - he spoke to RERA and they said this is correct as there needs to be some difference for 3 bed without maids and 3 bed with. Is he correct? I didn't make too much of a fuss as we are still well below market value but would be useful to know!

Hi Sabdallah Sorry but you will be unlikely to get an FS1 place for Sept 2014 in the more established schools. Places will have already been offered and there will also be some on waiting lists. You will probably have to try one of the new schools if you want a place for Sept 2014 or maybe have your child attend a nursery for FS1 and try to get in for FS2.

Sorry to jump on this thread ut was hoping for some advice. My 3 year old daughter has had a 'phlegmy' chest on and off for about 4 months now and I want to take her to a specialist so what kind of specialist should I be taking her to and can you recommend anyone?. Most of the time there is no temperature but now and then she does seem to have a slight temperature of no more that 38 degrees. About two weeks ago she had a higher temperature and the dr said it was a sinus infection and gave anti biotics. Before that he thought it was wheezing and gave the inhaler combination mentioned in this thread but we can't seem to clear her chest. TIA

We went through liquid expat mortgages and ended up with a mortgage from Natwest offshore. To be honest the brokers sourced a mortgage for us but think it would have been easier to go directly with Natwest. May be worth checking a comparison site and then contacting a couple of banks yourself?

We went to the Maldives last summer with two young kids and absolutely loved it! We stayed at Kurumba which was very close to the airport. It is one if the 'cheaper' resorts so we could spend more on the room type (stayed in a family villa which was stunning). We all just love relaxing and the kids loved swimming, playing on the beach, kids club and riding their scooters around the island. We stayed half board but are not big drinkers and don't generally have three course meals so would have been cheaper if we had done bed and breakfast. Also, we weren't that impressed with the food in the buffet and would have preferred to try some of the a la carte restaurants. Would go again a heart beat! edited by natashab on 15/04/2014

You can try dragonmart. Lots of the shops have them and I think they are less than 10aed each but a bit hit and miss in terms of if they are available. Sorry, cant be more specific re shops as a friend of mine got them from there and I don't know dragonmart very well.

Thanks Madge_Gustard. Yes that is right. I don't expect to pay current rate but be good to know he has to give us 90 days notice as this may give some bargaining power as 20% is quite a hike! So far LL has been lovely so hopefully will also be reasonable about rent increase. So do I need to let him know we want to stay? I need to check what the rent will be at some point!! Thanks again

Hi everyone Sorry to jump on this thread OP but I am aware some of the rules have changed so does the landlord still have to give 12 months notice to 'sell'? Also, do I have to give notice of intent to renew the contract? Re rental increases, am I right in thinking the RERA calculator used to have a max increase of 5% but this has now changed? Our tenancy contract isn't due for renewal yet but when I checked putting in the date as mid April it said we are due a 30000 aed increase - is the landlord entitled to increase this much in one go? And if he is increasing it does he need to let me know 90days in advance? What happens if he doesn't inform me early enough? Sorry for all the questions and TIA :-)

It is highly unlikely to change as it is in the calendar as 'school closed' rather than probable holiday. They will have planned their calendar to make sure all required school days are covered so being closed on the Tuesday will be part of this. There are even rumours that there may be some extra days if we get Expo 2020.... edited by natashab on 25/11/2013

I am geting confused! We have registered for the non-resident landlord scheme and therefore do not pay VAT but from looking at the website we wtill need to complete the tax self-assessment as we have 'income' from the rent of the property? Does this sound right?

I am sure we aren't paying tax and completed the non-resident form and have been out of the UK for 7 years! But i received a letter to say I need to complete the tax self assessment - I am assuming it is based on the earnings from renting our property?

Thanks all Will have another look at it tonight - I am sure I can figure it out. Tax situation not complicated at all, one property that is rented out and that's all. First question so far is that the property is in mine and husbands name so on the form I select joint tenants but when inputting all income/expenses etc do i put the full amount and they automatically halve it or do I put half the amount? Thanks

Thanks Polly - I looked at it a while ago and was confused by some of it and since so many people have said it is a nightmare and they use an accountant so thought I would try to do the same. Maybe need to look at it again - good to know you found it fairly straightforward!.

Thanks Lewis36 and Lakes Lucy. Have been to Maldives before and stayed at the Taj which was amazing but this was pre kids. Purpose of this holiday is different and I think Kurumba has a lot of facilities for children and they will love all the planes so really not bothered about being near the airport! Thanks again :-)

Hi there It would depend on the school. I know of one non-profit school that will only give local contracts to married women but there are other schools that will give married women international contracts as long as they can prove they don't get benefits through their husband's employment. HTH Not necessarily true as my husband does not get benefits and my contract will be classed as local hire in September. Unfortunately, schools are seeing this as a way to go. There are some schools that do this but there are others that will still give married women an international contract edited by natashab on 09/07/2013

Thanks for the replies. We were thinking of Sigiriya as wanted to do the minneriya national park to see elephants and planning to stay at JewWIng Vi Uyani which I think is built on a nature reserve - what has put me off is the fact that they have a crocodile in the lake! Just not sure I can cope with all the bugs! Don't really want to do the beack as we are combining the trip with Maldives where there will be plenty of beach!
