I have never seen them (real ones) in Dubai and my DS lives in his! I get a few pairs whenever I'm home and bring them back. They do have fake ones in Karama, DS friend got a pair the other week apparently.

Maybe you're over thinking things? If I sat down and thought should I? Shouldn't I? I probably wouldn't have had kids at all? To be honest I was a little young, looking back, but it's nice being a young(ish) mum now with grown up kids. It is sensible to get finances and insurances in order first, but sometimes the unexpected things things in life turn out to be good ones. Good luck x

Still in bed having coffee too, shameful and lazy ....but nice! I'm going to do shepherds pie ( or cottage pie, depends where you're from) with veg. Then apple and cherry crumble with custard. Nice for a rainy day.

Not much help with the fixing dilemma but just wanted to add that I tend to agree with what encore said. We had 2 condenser driers and both stopped working after about a year or so. I bought a cheap and cheerful 'normal' drier from Carrefour and so far I've had no problems with it. Maybe less parts to break? But even if it did stop working (please not today though) I'm not going to be so p***d off because it didn't cost too much and probably had my money's worth.

We have the platinum package so maybe that's why we get the HD channels. As marycatherine said the other E! disappeared when the the change around happened, a way to make you pay more perhaps???

No sorry you don't get a refund. You could ask the family for some money to cover the costs but they are not obliged to give you anything. You just lose the money. You do get your deposit back though, when she is 'transferred'. Just keep your original receipt to save any hassle.

Mine get 200 week. Don't really know what they do with it because I pay for everything else too! Petrol and salik for the oldest one, plus clothes, toiletries, concert tickets, snack money every day, phone cards, even brunches.... The list is endless. I am seriously going to review this situation though because after reading this thread I think I'm being taken for a ride. Note to self....must start saying no!

Unless you're employed in let's say tele sales? It's really not ok to be permanately attached to the phone. Your maid should only use her phone during working hours if there is an emergency. What on earth has she got to talk about for eons anyway? And who is she talking to? And her phone card expenditure must be huge? And it's just not right...it's potentially dangerous!

Hi. Gynecomastia can be resolved with liposuction and/or breast gland removal. A consultation at the dr's office will determine whether it's fat or breast tissue causing the issue. If it's only fat liposuction will get rid of the problem, minimal downtime (a day or two off work) and probably costs about 17,000dhs or more. A garment will have to worn for a few weeks after the procedure. There is a small risk of it returning though, as the fat (adipose tissue) may 'regrow'. If the problem is enlarged breast gland tissue then this has to be surgically removed, a bit like a mastectomy would be a way to describe it. This costs more money (maybe insurance would cover?) and maybe more painful which would mean more downtime. The surgeon may use a drain and more sutures. With this type of surgery the 'breasts' do not regrow. Many plastic/cosmetic surgeons in Dubai carry out this procedure, it's quite a low risk surgery, as long as the patient is otherwise fit and healthy.

When she's finished her contract, is she allowed to transfer to you? Some agencies are known to make the transition very difficult. If it's ok and you like her then go with your 'gut'. At least you won't have the new maid issues of training, getting to know one another type stuff. As for the 'stealing' and stereotyping of nationalities...ignore it! We've had good and bad experiences with both philipino's and Sri lankans. It's the character of the person after all not the country they are from. The issue of husbands moving in will only happen anyway IF you allow it, it's your house. Good luck with your decision. If I was in your position then I would be inclined to go for it if possible.

I had a patient here once who arrived at the hospital with an entourage, mum, sister's, aunt's, maids etc.. They were covered ladies and I greeted them and asked who was the patient. One lady replied it was her, I asked her name to confirm identity. I placed the wrist band on her, proceeded with the admission procedure. Asked the questions on the check list, all good so far... Asked her to change into the gown. She suddenly looked puzzled and asked why? I explained the reasons blah blah. When she then told me that she wasn't the patient it was one of the other ladies with her.... Honestly, how far could it have gone? Nobody interrupted and said anything. We did have a laugh about it though and seriously no harm was done. Just one of the many funny experiences I've had working here.

If you have liposuction from the waist (high waist, under breasts) down towards the toes you can opt to have a spinal anaesthesia with a sedation All patients (in my experience) have been very comfortable with this. The recovery time is quicker and the anaesthesia is less risky. If the amount of liposuction is limited to one or two areas very often the patients can go home the same day after a recovery room stay. They go home with painkillers, antibiotics, wearing a garment and further post op instructions. I know of a few doctors who I would recommend, namely Dr Buthaina, Dr Sahar, Dr Maria, because I have seen their work, I am not on comission!! Ultimately it's your decision who you choose. Do your research, be happy with the Dr you choose. Ask lots of questions and ask to see photo's. x

A bit vague because it was my friend's sofa not mine....but she went to feshwari (spelling?) on SZR and there is another shop (very similar name) a couple shops away from feshwari who also does upholstering. One of them is apparently half the price of the other. If you've got time, have a drive there and check them out?

My friend had the cool sculpting lipo. She wasn't happy with results at all, in fact she said it made no difference. I never noticed a change to her tummy area either tbh. Liposuction does not have to be a general anaesthetic, it depends on the area. Also doesn't have to be a night in the hospital, it can be done as a day case procedure.

My company does the same. I get an amount that would probably cover the cost to drop me off somewhere in Europe and have to hitch hike the rest of the way!! Luckily though DH company are very generous and give money to cover the costs of business trips for all of us, up to us how we spend it.

No it's not necessary. When my sister got married a few years ago she came here for her honeymoon. As a treat we paid for a weekend in a 5* hotel for them. Her passport at the time was still in her maiden name and no one commented at all.

Lovely message mrsb thanks for sharing. Rainyskies sending you a big hug right now and I hope that your skies will become brighter. Counseling is definitely an option you could try, if you both go into it with open hearts and minds. Deep inside do you love him? Or are you only staying with him for your baby and possible feelings of failure? Is it worth fighting for or will it be a one sided battle? Only you know the true answers to these questions. My only little bit of advice would be is that never sell yourself short. You have both entered into this marriage, you both made your baby and both moved home. Don't underestimate your inner strength, don't give up and let him have all of his own way, if you believe your marriage is worth fighting for. Just remember to keep your dignity and self belief. Just because you weren't together for years before the baby doesn't mean things can't be successful in the long term. I was with my husband for only 6 months before our little surprise happened. We were young (very early 20's) and silly (looking back). We are still married after 20 years. Hasn't all been plain sailing but we did, after his initial shock, share common values, beliefs and goals. The issue with your mum is hurtful and disrespectful but can't be allowed to be the deciding factor in the potential ending of your marriage. Parents can be good at forgiving for the sake of their children's happiness. Good luck with whatever happens, follow your heart and try to be happy x

Second the freedom shop in MCC. I bought dining room furniture from there recently, was pleasantly surprised at the price. It's very modern and good quality. I didn't buy a sofa from there but they had some really nice ones. I got a sofa a while ago from ikea for my DD bedroom and so far no problems with quality. Comfortable and washable and a good price too. Had mixed experiences with The One. A sofa for my living room barely lasted a year, the frame broke. It wasn't cheap and we are not over weight, nor were we jumping on it, lol. The other one we bought from there for our bedroom however is still looking good after about 4 years.

I would do what little crocodile suggested. Either offer to pay for a months extension on her visa (provided that she has not extended already), her cousin can do that for her as is he is her sponsor. Or you let her overstay and once your tenancy contract comes, go to immigration to start the process ASAP as the overstay can get quite expensive. It's 200dhs for the first day then 100dhs for every day there on. At immigration you can buy her a flight to Oman, approx 500dhs with fly Dubai. She exists and re enters all on the same day.

Have you chosen your surgeon? Your choice of anesthetist may be limited depending on where the surgeon is based. The below mentioned anesthetist at Medcare does have a good reputation, but he works there. So if your chosen surgeon doesn't then you won't be able to use him.

Dr Buthaina Al Shunar, own clinic on beach road. Dr Sahar Al Kazzaz cosmesurge Jumeriah. Both excellent, both do this surgery frequently. The comments from patients suggest that the pain is less for a reduction, comparing to the comments from patients (and myself) who've had an augmentation. All surgery comes with risk factors, but do your research, ask the dr lots of questions ask to see photos...most importantly feel comfortable with your surgeon and have realistic expectations.

I would suggest an agency as probably the best option. 2 hours a day, they could iron and do the floors during that time too. Even if it's only you and your dh it's still a luxury to come from work with those chores done for you. If not do you have a friendly neighbour? Perhaps with a teenager who wants a little pocket money?
