Eight years of working in healthcare here I've never 'officially' known anyone to have it done, if you get my meaning? There are some very good urologists here and they are capable of this procedure, willing is another matter. Find a good one and ask. Otherwise make sure that if you do go back home to have it done, you (your dh) don't fly back the next day! Ouch! Good luck!

Easy to find. Just go straight along al wasl road towards Bur Dubai. Literally straight, until you see the shop on your right side. Prices vary depending on what you want but always found them very reasonable and good extensions too. Here's the number 043528711.

Don't know if the location is near to you? There are two good and reasonably priced tailors in al barsha that I have used a number of times. Panache (I'm talking about alterations only) in al barsha 1 on the same road as ABC vets, 20 Dhs for hems, trousers and skirts. The other one, Stitches (something like that), very near to lulu and DAA school, yellow sign on shop. Had a couple of things made there, maxi skirt 125dhs and hems, again 20 Dhs.

Hi. Yes you do need a copy of the receipt to reclaim money. But I remember someone on here saying that you can get a copy of it from immigration at a nominal fee? I'm pretty sure that you can claim your money back at any time, a friend of mine took 2 months to reclaim her's a while back. HTH.

The Shangri-La is gorgeous though. There are three hotels in the complex, we stayed in the Bar al Jissah (adult only one) but walked around the others. It was expensive but well worth it. Don't think you'd be disappointed if you did opt for that one.

Yes it will be fine. Just be sure to keep the smaller pieces in a basket or washing net so they don't get lost in there or jammed in the filter.

I agree with Nomad. We can't beat ourselves up about trying to 'do the right thing' all the time. As long as my kids ate something in the morning I was satisfied. Be it a banana, cereal or a chocolate biscuit;). Throughout the rest of the day they had enough nutrients to maintain a healthy diet. They've grown up to be healthy and active with no weight issues. I also came across kids who were deprived of certain treats only to gorge themselves on them at every opportunity when they could. Personally I don't eat anything until about 9am, even though I start work at 6.30am. I just don't feel hungry until then.

I take my daughter (young adult) to coccinele optician (?spelling) in MOE. They sell glasses etc, near Lacoste shop opposite Pauls cafe and Juicy Couture. I've always found them to be good with both the eye tests, prices of lenses and overall quality of service. I took her once to the opthamologist in Medcare for an eye problem, he also tested her eyesight and said her prescription was accurate. The eye test in the mall was free the Dr was over 600dhs although our insurance covered it.

I used a curtain guy to do mine, he had a wide range of colours and qualities to choose from. Was happy with the result and didn't cost a fortune. I'll post his number if you want? Alternatively if you want to do your own I would head off to Satwa, they seem to have every type of fabric available.

Thank you ladies. I tried the peanut butter and he loved it.....sucked all peanut butter off and somehow managed to spit out the tablet whole! Lol! He's an English bulldog so was impressed that his big jaw was able to be sooo delicate:) I'm going to try and crush the tablet first then put it in the peanut butter. Honestly what a palava?! Don't think I had this much patience with my kids. Babyrat, with the butter suggestion do you mean mix it all together? Food, butter and tablet or coat the tablet first? I appreciate your help, I've got another week trying to be creative x

Bloomingdales yesterday made me happy. Some James Pearse T shirts 50% off and a pair of Jimmy Choo's 50% off, was feeling indulgent. Also got some nice shorts and a sweater for DS in pull and bear both 50% off. :)

I wouldn't call it snooping if you ask her to be with you? It's different if you were going through her private possessions without her knowing. The room itself is part of your home, probably containing most of your furniture so I think it's totally acceptable to check that's it's well maintained. That being said though I've still had a shock in the past when the room has been vacated (our previous maid). The grime was well hidden....

Hi. Yes I do. I have checked mainly for cleanliness and damage. I have always told her that I would and even done it with her there too. I don't snoop at her private things, like in her drawers etc, I've never felt the need. If things are a little unclean I simply tell her to sort it out as I expect her room to be of the same standard as the rest of the house.

We sold some things to cash converters on SZR. You send an email with pictures, they come and value it, take it away then call you to collect the money when it's sold. So if you're not in a hurry to get the cash it's a good way to sell things. No endless phone calls asking for directions, haggling over prices, time wasters etc......

Depends on the reason she's leaving ( as to how kind you want to be?). You can transfer the visa at immigration, I've never done this so don't know the process or how much it costs, just that it is possible. The simplest way for you is to cancel the visa at immigration which gives her 30 days to either exit to her home country or for her new employer to arrange a visa for her. You keep a copy of her cancellation paper and give her the original. After 30 days (or before if she has a new job with visa) you go to immigration with the paper and try to get your deposit back. I say try because you've lost your receipt? But as someone said you can apply for a duplicate. Not until she has left the country OR been given a new visa will any money be returned to you.

I too have tried a few different places for cakes. Hey sugar was nice but a liitle expensive for the size. I bought a couple from park and shop last year. Quite basic but lots too choose from. I had a Hello Kitty one and another sponge cake with a personal photo in edible icing. They tasted good, service was good and price fantastic!

Hi. Yes you were supposed to keep the receipt, the paper with the bar code on to claim back your 200dhs. Sorry I don't know what happens if you don't have it? Maybe go to immigration and politely ask, hopefully they will have some record of it on their system? And that you can prove who you are with some ID. Good luck!

Hi Shannon, sorry to hear you're unwell;) I don't want to scare you but I had similar symptoms recently after eating 'suspect' food. I had pain the same place as you described and the other added benefits...awful. I went to the dr who did blood, urine and 'the other' tests. It turned out out I had parasites (from food) alive and kicking, growing merrily away in my intestine. YUK!!! The pain was colic, all associated with it. Apart from feeling terrible, the knowledge of finding out the cause was just as bad!!:( 10 days of strong antibiotics, which made me nauseous, worked though I'm very happy to say. If you don't get any better soon maybe it's worth checking yourself out?

My DD used to use the nivea range too, like you I couldn't find it. She's now using the olay one. The most basic one, pink colour (been around for years). Not expensive but she likes it, it doesn't make her skin oily. She uses the olay facial wipes too.

I feel broody from time to time, I think it's normal. I mentioned to my 18 year old daughter once how it would be nice to have a baby to cuddle. Her reply, " yuk you're too old!" I'm 40!!! My husband would probably run for the hills at the mere suggestion too. I have my young nieces and nephews to spoil though, just don't get to see them often enough:(

That's a lovely thing to do Nomad. Sad news is always worse this time of year. I'm not feeling 'Christmassy' either. Had the decorators in for what seems like months, not well planned! So didn't even bother with a tree, it would have been in the way, my excuse anyway.... Watching Kirsty and Phil's Christmas admiring their tree instead

Not one from my childhood I know, but one I remember very well. DH was working in hong kong and not home for Xmas, not a sad story I have a big extended family. Anyway, my friend and sisters. came over Xmas eve to help with assembling of toys and last minute wrapping. It turned into a girlie evening with far too much grape....shameful. My DD had requested a wooden doll's bunk bed amongst other things. Never been good with a screw driver and with my vision slightly impaired I managed to split the wood badly! Oops! I had to wrap it and give it, too late for a replacement. I made up some story about Santa being clumsy. Years later she still remembers her damaged gift, although she knows the truth now.....poor kid no lasting emotional damage though:)

Most clinics and hospitals have these vaccines in stock but you'll have to pay consultation fee (for a gynae dr) on top of the vaccine cost which will probably be another 450dhs (approx). Unless you have insurance that will cover the consultation costs?

Both gastric bypass and band shouldn't be rushed into for a quick fix. That being said, if diet and exercise are simply not working then these procedures can be extremely effective. The band is reversible the bypass is not. They are relatively safe procedures but as with all surgery there are potential risks attached so thorough research and understanding of the procedure should be conducted before making any such decision. They are both costly and they come with a new lifestyle approach too, what and how much you eat will dramatically change. I have nursed lots of patients who have under gone both of these procedures. I haven't come across any horror stories (not saying they don't exist, but personally not seen any), most people after the adjustment period post op have had success with their weight loss. Remember, research and research. Find a doctor you are comfortable with, ask how many procedures he's done. What are his success rates? There a few good ones here in Dubai. Good luck:)

Ditto, October! Our maintenance with the LL sounds very similar. Small things are managed ok but bigger things like a/c and electrical issues forget it! We got another company in and paid for it ourselves. Not ideal but the job's got done efficiently and at a time that suited us. :)

Hi Ladies. Thought I'd update you. The maids husband called my DH last week asking to meet him. They met and he gave my husband the outstanding loan amount AND 2000dhs to cover some of the visa costs. Seriously, he did!! I was totally shocked we weren't expecting it at all. Her visa was cancelled and she flew to her home country last night. Almost a happy ending until I went into her 'cleaned' room and was met with a filthy disgusting sight, ****** mattress, filthy bathroom, broken crockery etc. How do they live like that? New maid started today...let the games begin

I wouldn't call it quality time if you spend that time arguing, hardly fun is it? Unless of course you are both passionate, hot blooded types that just communicate in that way? In my experience it won't get better and may even to lead to things getting more heated even violent? Effective communication is a big part of any type of relationship for it to be successful. If you really see and want a future with this person then perhaps consider relationship guidance from a third impartial person? If not then you need to re evaluate your relationship and end it now before you become more involved. Good luck with your choices, hope things get calmer;)

Thank you ladies. You are right she is taking me me for a ride, and for someone who I once thought was so sweet and unassuming is now showing how manipulative she really is. Honestly, your advice has really given me the confidence to toughen up. When I got in from work this afternoon we had a 'little' chat including the tips I've gotten from you all. If she wants to go fine.... Pay what you owe (by working your notice), pay for your flight, we'll cancel the visa then she can go. There is nothing else to say to her now, she will sulk anyway I'm sure of that.
