Thank you so much for your replies. I have since spoken with security and confirmed we are not allowed, though after seeing countless apartments within the complex with differing fuel supplies it did come as a surprise!

Hi Daisymacdoo! My daughter just spent her Reception year at TES (The English School). It lived up to its great reputation for us and many friends whose children also attend. KES (Kuwait English School) also has a very good reputation, very academic. The majority of KES students are Arab expats. ASK is another you could consider depending on which curriculum you'd prefer... Most families we know join a beach club eg The Hilton, Al Corniche, The Palms. There aren't definitive areas with a British community feel like what I know of Dubai so far but you may find compounds of apartments or villas with mainly British tenants. And you will find the school you choose provides your community network. As far as I'm aware you can only use your UAE license until you have Kuwait residency. Of course, things often vary from case to case and can depend upon your employer etc ...

We've just moved from Kuwait to Dubai, with 2 small children. What exactly are you wanting to know? It's hotter than Dubai but less humid, renting property is probably half the price it is here (currently expats cannot own)... I could recommend a great nursery and school. I know of one major issue that new arrivals are having that you should be aware of - some are not able to get a drivers license. I know one couple that neither husband and wife are able to get one. Cabs are cheap and plentiful but (from experience, before I managed to get my license) difficult with kids and carseats. You could, of course, get a driver.

Sooo sorry to hear of your family's trials but so happy to hear that your precious daughter is almost in the clear!!! I recently posted here enquiring about the smog we'd experienced since arriving last week. I've since done some googling and came across this site which is interesting http://aqicn.org/city/uae/dubai/mushrif-park/ At times it looks alarming but seems to vary greatly. The heat, winds and humidity definitely compound the issue. I wish I'd come across this whilst we were making our decision, not sure whether it would have changed our minds or not, it's just good to make a fully-informed decision. There are so many factors that contribute to making a happy, healthy family... Best of luck!!!!

I'm watching this thread with interest... We're moving to Dubai shortly and hoped on a recent visit to view some properties. We had 5 lined up and managed to see one... Hmmm...
