I don't have a suggestion for a medication, BUT, I have kept my cold sores away for years now (used to get them frequently) by always using sunscreen with at least spf15 on my lips whenever in the sun!

I've used Geant's online shop geantonline.ae and it worked brilliantly! The website is pretty comprehensive and everything was delivered during the time-slot of my choice! Free delivery if you spend over AED50. I only bought non-perishable items.

We lived in KL for 5 years and really liked it. It is very affordable and people are really nice. Schools are good. There are really no safety issues besides not wearing your jewelry around town, esp if you are walking... same goes for your handbag = pay attention. There are a lot of Expat organisations there, she can google them and they'll be happy to provide more information :-)

Trying to figure out where to go for a few days over Eid, this being our first one in the UAE. Will things be closed for the duration? Is it better to travel elsewhere? Cyprus or...??? Appreciate any input and suggestions!!

BTW, the beaches in Bali are lovely. We usually stay in Sanur as it is a bit quieter (no wild partying) while having everything you might need: shops, restaurants, supermarket etc. etc. There are tons of different housing options.

You might want to visit Dragon Mart, there are a lot of curtain stores/suppliers there, and I believe they all install.

Well, I got my Yellow fever vaccine there (Al Mankhool clinic) yesterday. Will cost you 350 (incl. the consultation). Bring your UAE id card + cash. edited by New 64 on 20/08/2013

Hello, as far as I know the only place that gives Typhoid vaccinations is the Government health clinic in Mankhool. I was actually there yesterday, and they are out of it! There is a worldwide shortage... and they had no idea when they will be getting more. Here's a link with their information, you might want to give them a call: http://www.dha.gov.ae/En/facilities/healthcenters/pages/almankhoolhealthcenter.aspx

Thanks everyone, we're definitely thinking twice about the move based on feedback. to New 64, do you get more space for your money rent wise? How do you feel the quality of accommodation compares? I love the new condos here with beautiful facilities but find the apartments too small. As a result, we live in an old one to get more space but lacks the gym, gardens etc. I guess the decision will come down to money in the end.has anyone got any more plus points about living in Dubai vs Singapore? Hi LB101 - We have a much smaller place here in Dubai.... But that is the trade-off for living in the Marina, which is the area we've chosen for ourselves. The construction quality in general seems to be comparable to Singapore, and a lot of the condos have decent gyms and pools. You'll have to decide what is most important for your family.... size, location, convenience? :-) Good luck!! edited by New 64 on 13/08/2013

Hello, having lived in Asia for a long time, including Singapore, we're finding the level of competency in all areas to be lower than in Asia. While cars and gasoline are cheap here I do not agree that everything else is cheaper than in Singapore. Especially not rents, which you pay in 1 check for the full year. Dubai may seem developed and modern, but a lot of it is just "flash". Singapore is a better run country in every way, including your internet speed :-) Also keep in mind that for around 4 months each year it is unbearably hot, and you and your children will be spending most of our time indoors. On the plus side - the beaches here are wonderful (during the cooler months), and it is an interesting culture and you'll find a lot of great Arabic and Indian food (not Chinese). We'd move back to Singapore in a heartbeat.. but the jury is still out on Dubai....

I have seen Donna recommended elsewhere here on the Forum. Could someone please give me her phone number? Or do I just call her at the salon? Thanks!

I am brand new in Dubai and have no idea what "normal" is.... But I certainly do not need to go to a "top" salon for just a trim :-)

Thx :-) Another question.... Is it possible to live in an apartment on the Palm (Tiara, Fairmont) and get around without a car? Any shuttles, public transport available?
