Thx. Are the hotel restaurants open during the day or there any places that offer takeaways for lunch?

Try asking in pharmacies. I saw them at the pharmacy in City Centre last month.

Thx for the explanation Carole. Another question: :) Does a Doula also help post-birth? We're trying now for our first baby and the thing that worries me the most about the whole experience is the first few months after the baby is born like bathing the baby, figuring out the crying (hunger, something wrong with the baby etc.). It would be great to have this support and guidance post-birth.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does a Doula exactly do?

We used Crown to move from Riyadh to Doha, they were really wonderful in both countries.

We also got ours from Blu Salon a couple of months ago and we're very happy with it. I would recommend paying a bit more and getting the one with the capuccino & latte option. I heard that Blue Salon owners opened a chocolate shop on the Pearl -forgot the name- and they are selling them there as well.

Just got back from Abu Dhabi yesterday! Next to our hotel was a Hilton Serviced Apartments (or something similar), don't know anything else about it but might be worth checking out. Good Luck!

I would definitely recommend Amazon! I lived in KSA for 4 years and now Doha, it has made my life much easier... I use the U.S website and never had a problem shipping anything - even vitamin pills!

miss-smt...I just walked into the tower and asked to see the apts so its directly with them. Lobby is nice when you enter the bldg, they have a nice swimming pool on the top of the building + separate gym for men & women (don't ask why!) but it's still not equipped, they said the equipment will arrive next week. And I know EXACTLY which towers you're talking about, DH loves them and he was telling me that maybe we should wait to find out more about them before making our decision to move to Areen. When we first got here 6 months we passed by to ask and they only told us they haven't opened yet and didn't provide any additional info. Let me know if you find out anything else about them. Amy77...I think it is the one, it's the only white bldg in that area. Thx for pointing out the noise, didn't think about that. I'll make sure to pay attention to it next time I go there. I agree, it's great to be able to walk to City Centre without the hassle of parking the car. We are now staying at the Kempinski and we walk there all the time.

Did the driving test yesterday and PASSED...yaaaaay I feel very lucky as only 13 out of 50 ladies passed and the vast majority of them took lessons while I didn't :) I posted here before saying its only manual test now, thought I post to correct it. I DID do the test on a manual car but almost all the other ladies had automatic!!! I was very surprised so I enquired about it...Turns out because DH went to register me for the test, they told him that it's only manual -eventhough he specifically asked for automatic - but failed to explain that that is because HE was registering me for the test and for the automatic I have to register in person! Now we know :)

It's only manual for now. I just booked the test for next week this morning, the guy there said that "in the near future" you will be able to choose between manual/automatic. I booked it at Al Khebra Driving School but can't really recommend as I didn't take any lessons but I heard good things about it.

Shiseido! I've been using it for the past 10+ years and STILL happy with the result. I tried to switch to other brands like Dior, Lancome etc. - just out of curiosity/boredom - and nothing comes close. I use the foam wash, serum, eye cream, day cream & night cream, purifying mask (AMAZING). Everything! One thing though, I noticed here that some of the sales ladies here don't know the products very well. I recommend checking the products online to find the line that suits you best and then go to the store and buy it. Btw, I have aging, acne prone AND sensitive skin. Good Luck!

Don't mean to discourage you but when we first got here a couple of months ago I saw almost all towers in West Bay and ALL of them were furnished. We liked some of the apartments but hated the furniture but no one accepted to remove it. We even suggested we pay the same rent but without the furniture...but, again, it didn't work out. Now we also live in a serviced apartment :) Good Luck and let us know if you find something...

Congrats! I actually never got this sms (eventhough they took my number)!! My DH company told me that they got the results and I can do the fingerprints. The RP is issued a few days after the fingerprinting but sorry don't know where to get it from or the steps. The fingerprinting was the last thing I did and then DH company sent us the RP.

kimmc - your comment made me laugh soooo much :) I was also shocked about the price of the cupcakes but wanted to try so I got ONE to share with my DH, it was pretty disapointing...very dry! Last night we tried the cupcakes at the W cafe, they were MUCH better. Doha4now is right, they WERE cheaper at 17 QR/piece :) I guess Cupcake Factory needs a serious review of their cupcakes AND prices. As for Carluccio's - a couple of weeks ago we grabbed some food from there to eat at home, basically 3 different types of salad and polenta. The salads were good but I thought the grilled Polenta was AMAZING.

mrvm- Medical Comsission is the place. I don't know their exact hours but I know that they close during the afternoon (1-4??) but one guy there told me that afternoons are for company employees only but then added: "you can come, no problem" eventhough I'm on my husband's RP not a company...go figure! I did mine 2 weeks ago, was there around 11-11:30 and was done within an hour. I have a feeling that it is more crowded during early hours. Bechamel- I did my blood group test the first week I arrived, someone took me to a clinic to get it done (I have no idea where!) BUT when I did my medical they asked for it and I didn't have it with me. The guy there said they needed it but he's going to do an exception and let me proceed with the medical without it!

ccdoha: thx for the link...very helpful Nole: Good Luck on the test, let me know how it goes. I guess I'll be doing the same as you did and try my luck before taking the course. Which driving school did you take the test in? Is the car manual shift or automatic? Do you know if we can pick the date for the test? I'll be out of the country for the next couple of weeks and would like to take the test as soon as I get back :). TIA
