Last week I saw kids playing football there so there might be basketball nets in the same court. Will check it out for you next time I'm there.

I highly recommend Ravi - the mobile tailor. Used him a few times to fix clothes and even make covers for the sofa. Always punctual and a very pleasant person.

I've been there a few times already. It hasn't officially opened - they are still doing some minor works inside but you can still go in and enjoy it.

We lived in Kempinski for a year and were very happy there BUT we moved out when I got pregnant. It is very nice but its not "home" when you have kids. It is a hotel and they won't let you change much in terms of furniture/decoration etc. Saying that, they do have a good kids club there.

Marycatherine, there IS a market for expat lawyers mostly specializing in corporate law.. inhouse or with lawfirms. Santorini, from what I know (DH is a lawyer here) there is a demand for lawyers, I will ask him if he knows who's recruiting. Hope you find something soon.

You're welcome. There's only one tricky sign that they ask, its the customs one - red circle with a thick black dash in the middle. Almost failed because of this one. Never seen it before on the road and I doubt I'll ever see it unless I'm driving through countries! Otherwise the signs part is pretty straight forward.

It really isn't very difficult but luck does play a big part in it! First part, they'll ask you to identify signs - about five of them. Then there's the parking thing and finally road drive. I completely agree with the drama thing - ex. when I got into the car with the examiner, the mirrors really didn't any adjusting but I DID spend a good minute or so adjusting them ;) Another advise would be to go there early and mingle with the other ladies and ask them about tips. Most of them have taken lessons and can offer tips on what to do - I think that helps a lot. I passed the test without lessons, so its not impossible - go ahead and try your luck! Oh...and be prepared to be there around 5:30 a.m :\:

Yay on all! Never had a bad experience at any of them. The only we haven't been to is the Brasserie - anyone tried it? I heard they're supposed to have an oyster bar? *drooling*

We applied last month through an agency and got the approval in a few days. I currently don't work but I'm pregnant so I got a letter from the doc stating the latter. The agency told me that they don't need a letter from the doc but I insisted that they include it, I really don't know if that made a difference.

My personal favourite is Market at the W, been there quite a few times and never been disapointed. We went to Nusantao 2 weeks ago, its good but mostly Asian food so skip it if you don't like this type of cuisine. Fish Market at the Intercon. also has a lovely sea food brunch. Wherever you decide to go, don't forget to reserve a few days in advance.

Never heard about the Oriental Village Compound but Al Jazi owns and operates two towers in WestBay Al Areen & Aamal. We live in Areen and are quite happy here and I *heard* that Aamal is nice as well, maybe its worth a shot to negotatiate housing in one of them. They also have Al Jazi compound in the area which is a bit on the expenive side but very nice as well.

We lived there for a couple of years and we liked it. We found it very "exotic" ;). Most people I met there were happy, especially the ones with younger children - we don't have children so can't help you with schooling. Arizona is the nicest compound (it has a golf course!), Cordoba, Hamra and Kingdom are pretty good as well. IMO, if you stay in any of these coumpunds you'll be fine, they have good gym, pools, taxis, recreation center with activities for kids of all ages. Waiting lists for these compounds can be years unless your company has reserved villas there. It can be difficult in the begining to adjust to not being able to drive, wearing the abaya, shops closing during parayer times etc..but I think in a wierd way, this is the charm of Riyadh!

The Nespresso shop is inside the Blue Salon, they have all the machines and the pods - I think its the only one they have in Doha. Sorry lalala don't have the delivery number, maybe if you try calling Blue Salon they'll give it to you.

I've been using Klorane for more than 10 years, its really good. I usually get when I go back home and once I got it here from Amazon but I *think* I saw it here in some pharmacy. Check this one as well: http://www.amazon.com/JONATHAN-Green-Rootine-Shampoo-Ounce/dp/B002PYPHSE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1328194890&sr=8-2 I got it from Amazon after I saw on a TV show, I use it when I want to freshen up my bangs, its very good for small jobs or if your hair doesn't get very oily.

Flew with them 2 years ago, Jakarta-Bali, because we didn't have any other alternative. It was a bumpy ride and we had a 3 second free drop in midflight. We changed our whole travel plans just so that we don't fly with them on the way back.

We got one car from Qatarsale and one from Qatar Living. Another option is to go to car dealerships and ask if they have preowned cars. Sorry to go off topic but I'm now looking to buy a Q7, 2007 or 2008. K3 & Kimmc3, are you happy with your purchase? Any advice on what to look for when checking out the car? Thx.

I would advise, like Gray Girl - to go to their office and make your enquiry in person. -We have booked tickets on a special offer and were able to change the date for a fee - sorry can't remember how much but that was 3 months ago (wasn't cheap but better than buying new tickets) -I don't know about QA but it happened with us on a Cathay Pacific flight, they canceled our return flight because of that and we had no idea. We only discovered this while trying to check in!!! Lesson learned! Go to QA office - maybe they have a way to confirm the return flight?? HTH

Have a look at Areen Tower in Westbay. It's 12'000 for unfurnished 3 bedroom apt - its HUGE, has a maid room and a small storage room inside the apt. I think the 2 bedroom goes for 10'000. Has a nice pool on the roof and a basic gym. Great location and CC is at walking distance.

@ccdoha...I disagree about the big plates, I have them and they are really easy to use and save time provided you have longer hair BUT won't work with bangs. I would say you have to have at least shoulder length hair to use them comfortably.

GHD is a miracle! I have two, a smaller one for my bangs and a bigger one for the rest of my hair. Pricey but worth it. Hoobs, are you sure it can be used on wet hair? They don't mention anything about it on the website.

Didn't try it but I used to go to the gym there and the smell was nice! Each day they have a different theme like Asian, Arabic etc. I think they have vouchers in the Entertainer. I can HIGHLY recommend the friday brunch at the Fish Market, its also nice weather to sit outside nowadays.

I completely agree with VRDoha in everything, every place is what YOU make it. For us the advantages (financial stability, experience etc.) outweighs the disadvantages. Think what is most important to YOU and then make your decision based on that.

Nemo is the first colourist I tried when we first moved here ( based on the recommendation of a friend) and I never looked back. She ALWAYS does a great job. I don't think she cuts though, for this I highly recommend Rosa in Salwa branch.

Silver...Shiseido IS really adictive ;) ccdoha, I would recommend that you do a "cure" with the Clarins sensitive line -serum and all- (is that the one you tried?) to calm your skin and then switch to Shiseido to help with the wrinkles. Avene also has a good cream for sensitive skin. A great brand for sensitive skin is Decleor but they don't have it here :( I used to work in the beauty industry and had inside access to most of the high-end brands so would be happy to answer any questions you have :)

Shiseido, i'be been using it for +15 years. Every now and then, I would get curious about a "magic" new cream but I always go back to Shiseido. One tip, don't count on the recommendation of the sales assistants here...google the brand you like and then go the counter here and try the cream to see if you like the texture and then buy it.

We lived in Riyadh for a couple of years and I would STRONGLY advise her to stay away from Fal, its occupied 90% by single arab men of all nationalities who would smoke shisha around the pool all day. A nice compound is the key to a happy experience in Riyadh. I would second Tami on Eid. Other - more expensive - options near the airport would be: Cordoba, Hamra and Arizona. Another nice compound with fair prices but not close to the airport is Arabian Homes. Its better to live in a one bedroom apt in any of these compounds than a villa in Fal. Btw, this is fairly updated info as we move from KSA to Qatar less than a year ago. Forgot to add that the nicer compounds have a long long waiting list. edited by NewbieDoha on 18/10/2011
