We have had this same problem with the ball cock in the water tank 3 times now. We live in a Nakheel property and the landlord is good with the maintenance. Unfortunatly the quality of spare parts and original workmanship are not good. We were checking DEWA daily, we now do it weekly, infact we noticed an increase in DEWA last week. This is only 6 months after the last change of ball cock! You need to turn the water off at the DEWA meter, this will stop your tank to continue to fill.

After looking round Dubai for hats, went back to shop in Green Comunnity Market they now have hats as well. The make they have is Vivien Sheriff. Apparently they are waiting for more stock too. While I was there also found a great bag in a shop around the corner on the way to the hotel. They have good as new designer bags at discounted prices.

Great selection of fascinators at shop in Green Community market place. (they have a picture of Princess Kate wearing a fascinator in there, so maybe they sell the same make as she has worn) Think it is called Maison d,tres, they have ladies clothes and gift items in there. Thanks Ladies. I phoned shop and ship as the shipment was showing my PO BOX as delivery address, but they confirmed that they had home address for delivery. Why put PO BOX as delivery address then - got usual silence. First time I have used Shop and Ship and have just received my delivery - very impressed.

Hi nspree I totaly agree with you re the new skywards points system for Skywards miles and the Emirates NBD credit card. The amount of miles we now get has more than halved. One of my biggest complaints it that it vertualy impossible to tell if you have been credited with the correct amount of miles as they have split it into so many different earning rates. However i have found out in my case that I have not been being credited with the bonus miles for paying for Emirates flights on line, I have asked for a print out of how my miles have been worked out since they started the new system on October 1st 2011. Once I get that my next battle is for them to admit they have made a misstake. Not going to be easy with Emirates airlines and Emirates NBD involed!!

I would also recommend Gareth from Moyra have dealt with him in the past and found him to be very professional and above board. However I did not have the same experiance with HH in Arabian Ranches/Motor City, found them to be completely opposite and would never ever recommend them.

50dhs is a great price. I needed to send a letter urgently to the UK, took it to the Aramex office in Media City and was told their minimum charge was 160dhs. Found DH work collegue to post it instead as he was going to UK

Dogs have never been legally allowed in any apartment on The Palm, it has to date not been enforced though. Landlords do not have the right to override the municipality and The rules of Palm Jumeirah. The municipality which covers the Palm is Trakhees. They also say they will not allow bbq's, satelite dishes, laundry etc on balconies - http://www.emirates247.com/crime/local/balcony-barbecue-fine-fixed-at-dh500-2011-11-27-1.430308 FYI - The section form the Rules of the Palm Jumeirah community regarding pets. 3. GENERAL RESTICTIONS 3.1 Pets 3.1.1 Undomesticated animals, including but not limited to poultry, fowl, horses, cattle, sheep, goats and swine must not be brought into or kept within the Master Community. 3.1.2 Subject to Rule 3.1.3, domestic animals such as reptiles, dogs, cats, birds and fish (“Pets”) may be kept as household pets within the Master Community, provided that they are not kept, bred or raised for commercial purposes, nor, as determined by the Managing Agent, kept in unreasonable quantities. 3.1.3 Dogs are prohibited from being kept in Multi Ownership Plots at all times, unless approved in writing by the Managing Agent and the Manager of the relevant Owners’ Association. [u'>For the sake of clarification, dogs may only be kept in the private residences known as “Frond Villa Homes” within the Master Community.[/u'> 3.1.4 All dogs must be kept on a leash and under the handler’s full control at all times within the Master Community when not within the secured boundary walls of a private Frond Villa Home. 3.1.5 Pet Community Users are fully responsible for their Pet at all times and any damage or nuisance caused by their Pets will be solely attributed to the Pet Community Users. 3.1.6 Subject to Applicable Laws, the Managing Agent is authorized to request a Relevant Authority to impound and remove any type of animal (including Pets) from the Master Community, which, in the Managing Agent’s opinion, may pose a nuisance or threat to the Community Users. Up to date none of these existing rules has been enforced, it looks as though Nakheel is about to change their minds!

Hi A Rancher, I have not been my self but have friends that have been that would recommend this Hotel and wellness retreat. Frinedship beach is the hotel, but at the hotel they also have a wellness retreat attached called Atmanjai. Should not be like this, is was not to begin with. However in the last few months since they have been upgrading overnight, everything gets changed. We have missed some episodes of our favorite series and like you have to keep resetting - sort of cancels out the point of series link. Sometimes the series link shows but does not tape. We also get a lot of picture freezing and audio cut out at the moment, on all channels. How I hate Du

Phoned 1768 Deli - apparently they do beef pastrami at the moment which I belive is similar to salt beef but it has also been smoked. They have bagel shops here so why not salt beef :)

We have a booster upstairs for the wireless internet, works reasonably well. We got it from Compume at MOE near Borders and the cinema - they are fairly helpful in there. I think the make is Linksys/Cisco.

I have been waiting for the last year for the Hard Rock to open at Festival City. According to Arabian business it opened on Friday. Did anyone go over the weekend - is it true? if so their marketing stinks as I did not see anywhere their advertising, I have been emailing them asking about the opening you would have though they would let people who have shown an obvious interest know that they are going to open. Did anyone know? I know there have been other threads on here with interested people but saw nothing in relation to the opening - or is it just me going around with my eyes closed. I've always found Burjaman to be a good place, have always been able to get better discounts from shops there rather than Dubai Mall or MOE. It may be because it is less touristy? Bought a Choppard watch there, maximum discount in Dubai Mall and MOE was 10% got over 20% in Burjaman! Dont know where you live but the Man, Mike, in the bag shop in Green Community Market can also get new watches at good prices

VH prices are way too much for what you get. Greedy agents just keep advertising the Villas for more and more without actually selling very many. I think one of the issues is a lot of the owners paid way too much in the first place and want to try and get some of their money back. This means there may be a shortage of Villas for sale as owners have decided to live in them as they cant afford to sell at todays prices. This doesn't mean that you should pay over the top for the Villas because the original owners did - remeber if you are taking a mortgage the valuers will not care. Look what you can get in Green Community for the same money or Motor city or Arabian Ranches. If you do decide to buy there do your research well, some houses are advertised with different agents at different prices, sometimes with as much as AED400,000 difference. You also need to take into account the SC which I believe is AED 5.6 per square foot.

Agree it is a nightmare out there you do not know which agents to trust, everyone will have both good and bad experiances with the same agents. I can totaly recommend Omar of The Business Real Estate - he has always proved to be professional and honest as far as we are concerned he is the Manager and can be contacted on 050 503 4305. Al business is good business for him and a budget of 60,000 will not put him off. He has helped us many times in the past, including with the sale of an apartment here.

Any ideas if it would be better to get a mortgage from a non local bank i.e. Barclays, over a local bank i.e. Emirates NBD. We have been told not touse local banks but no one has given us a good explanation as to why.

Hi Christmastree. OK - but the agent and the new buyer are trying it on. Dubai contracts are automaticaly renewable under the same terms unless they are non renewable and that would be very clearly stated. They have to stick to the same terms as your existing contract - if you dont want to stay and dont trust them that is your choice. I would at the least expext them to pay you compensation as it will cost you money to move.

Christamstree Do you want to move, I was under the impression that if the apartment you were a tenant in is sold the new owners have to stick to your current contract and that includes giving 1 year notice if they want to move in themselves. If you dont want to move check out your rights, if you dont mind moving but the law says you dont have to I would ask for moving costs from owners as you are doing them a favour. Peaople cant just sell their apartments then make tenants leave to suit new owners, you have your rights too.

Dont think you can reclaim VAT on services and goods you use in the UK. To reclaim VAT as a non resident you have to be taking the goods out of the UK with you.

Thanks @TwoKids I guess the pools will open in Dubai time! Does anyone live in a B type and have any comments, positve or negative. Also the rental rate appears to have gone up recently, I was told that this is also because the sales price has also increased by between 10% and 20% since the beggining of 2011. Perhaps I have missed something, has gold been found on the Golf course or is there a justified reason for the increase - any ideas.
