Hi all! I know I have seen posts about the Pearl, but the search option doesn't bring them up. Sooo...I am probably going to be asking the same questions that others have already asked. My husband and I are considering a move to the Pearl. Can someone who lives/or has lived there give me the pro's and con's of daily life there. We are currently in the Ain Khaled/Villagio area and we really do love it out here, but it's hard to say no the Pearl! lol. Also, besides rent what is the normal bills for utilities/water a month or possibly anything I am not thinking of? We will be just at our budget by moving out there, so I want to make sure this is do-able! TIA!! =)

My parents came in to visit last week and it was still only 100 riyals..we also left for a few days to go to Abu Dhabi and then came back 3 days ago and the visa was still only 100 again. Maybe this is something that will be happening soon?

Once you are done with the fingerprinting (and they are put into the system) you can take the paperwork you are given to the 2nd floor of the main post office which is along the Corniche. There is a kiosk there that takes your paperwork and prints out your RP. It takes about 5 mins of wait time and then you have the RP in hand. I got the final paperwork from my husband's company to take there, so I am not sure where you get it if they are not handling it. After the fingerprints, it only took a day though to get my RP card and stamp into my passport.

So, then she WOULD want to renounce it? Sorry..I guess I read the question wrong. Either way, whoever it is for or for whatever the reason they just have to see if their current country of citizenship accepts it with the US or not. I'm sure there is a super long process..but this is just the info I was told when I looked into it for myself.

Hi Sega, It depends on which country your original citizenship is from. The U.S. does recognizes dual citizenship, but there are some countries that do not recognize it at all or with the U.S. If your original country does not recognize it then you would have to technically renounce it, but if it allows dual citizenship with the U.S then you would be able to be a citizen of both countries. Your country's embassy should have the info on whether it allows it with the U.S. or not on their website.

newbie: I did mine at Al Hebra...(I think that is the name of it) It's really close to the big International Indian school near Wholesale Market road. I had an automatic...basically there was just a line of cars on and running and you went to the line of cars and picked which one you wanted, along with everyone else who passed the road sign test. I know most of them were automatics...I didn't see any manuals, but that doesn't mean there weren't any there. I am not sure about picking your test date, when I went they just gave me the next available one...but you could always ask!

You can get your blood type done at a few places. I went to future medical right across from the Villagio mall. It took about 10 mins for the whole thing. I was also told by my husband's company that as long as I had something from back home with my blood type on it, that would've been fine as well. I just didn't have anything. Not sure how it is though with your husband's company....they actually put all my info into the system themselves, so I only had to show the blood type to the person in charge of it at my husband's company.

Newbie- I am in the process now of also taking the test. I was given the opportunity to take a direct test twice and then if I fail both times I have to take the course, which like you said is very expensive. I have tried it once, and failed, lol. I have also been driving for almost 15 years and its really annoying that I have to go through it..but I suppose most countries you move to would make you do the same thing. The problem isn't so much that the test is hard, it's just that you aren't able to practice on the course before you have to take it and to be honest I wasn't even sure what they were asking me to do. Talk to someone ahead of time that has passed and can tell you all the details of the test. That was my first mistake. Some people get lucky and pass on the first try, and other friends of mine have had to go through the course because they failed the direct test twice. I have been out of town for over a month, but will be coming back this week and will be signing up for my 2nd try. It normally takes about 2 weeks for your test date, so hopefully with a little luck I will have my license by the end of January! Good luck as well!!
