My eldest son got braces on in the States last Summer before we moved out to Dubai. We went to the college for adjustments but it must have been 4 visits at a cost of 450 Dhs a visit before she actually did any work. Every time there was a bracket broken, she wouldn't go further and then suggested we take all the braces off and start again with their braces. This would be a further cost of 13500 dhs! We were also told that we would be 2 years away from treatment. We were lucky enough to come home in April to and I took my son to see the original orthodontist and he was great. Put the bands on for the overbite and has said that the braces will be off by the end of summer and we leave to go back. I felt that they Nicholas and Asp were just after the money and I didn't think it was a great service. Perhaps if they put the braces on in the first place it would be different.

Potterybarn Kids are good backpacks. We are getting a second year from ours and I stuck them in the washer to clean at the end of the school year. Nice patterns too.

My husband bought the maps for the Tom Tom we have and he said it was a waste of money! He moved out in March and we move out in 3 weeks. Good luck with your move.

Thanks! She is 7 and just had her recital here in the States! She loves to dance and she was going to join the dance competition team if we hadn't been relocating!

At Diverse, do kids get the opportunity to be in their shows if they don't do Musical Theatre and just the regular dance classes? I am wanting to enroll my daughter there when we arrive in August!

I am going to look at Shams for my 7 year old son who has just had his first competitive season at Level 4 here in the States. They follow the US gymnastics program.

You can do Emirates to JFk on the A380 and then American Airlines to O'Hare. This is what we do. Even though it is a long flight, you are still effectively returning on the same day.

Yes, there is an Indian grocers not far from me. There are lots of good grocery stores all over. Also, where I live here in the Burbs, there is a lot of different cultures, Russian, Korean, Chinese! I am the token Brit and my friends love my accent! They now say everything is "lovely" lol! You don't know till you try it, but you have to make more of an effort to make friends here.

Hi there, I am British and lived in Dubai for 4.5 years before we left for the States in 2010. I am really happy here, we live in the Northern suburbs of Chicago. I love my normal life but still crave my old Dubai life too! Kids have a good life and are very busy with activities! Summers are great but shopping is the best! Food wise I would say it is no more expensive than Dubai, gas is not that expensive. Weirdly enough it looks like we may be coming back to Dubai for a couple of years with my husbands job! We plan to keep our home here in the States and our Green Cards as it will only be a couple of years. You can have a great life. Weather is interesting too! If you want to ask me anything you can email me! Marie at Oyston dot net
