Hi Nayls, Unfortunately, I fly very frequently for my work and in/out of many, very dodgy countries and airspace. Fortunately, I love the work I do. However, it doesn't matter where I'm going to, I'm still a wreck and completely empathise with your concerns that are very real to you. There are tricks you can try but as you're travelling soon, your time is quite limited. Three quick tips: (i) if you haven't booked your seats, try to get a row as far front as possible. The closer you sit to the nose, the less turbulence you'll feel; (ii) let the flight attendant(s) know. I usually chat up the crew member assigned to my area, and divulge my little secret. Nine times out of ten, they'll be sure to come and reassure you if the flight becomes bumpy; and (iii) I prefer a prescription of Ativan (Lorazepam) to Valium (Diazepam). It's sublingual (melts under the tongue), quickly absorbed, and the half-life is very short, i.e. you won't feel like a zombie when you land. BTW: I'm obsessed with airline/pilot forums - something weirdly attached to my phobia - and I just checked: BA and others, including Emirates, are flying over Iraq but in Kurdistan airspace not ISIS controlled areas. Keep yourself busy, if not sleeping, or busy with your kiddies, and soon you'll be there! Enjoy your holidays, NL

Hi FN, I've been to both Hawaii and Cancun for business and pleasure (and pain, if you count a marathon!). I've never been on a cruise but for me, Hawaii has so much more in terms of amazing scenery, diverse geography - mountains to pristine beaches to rain forests - whilst Cancun is rather artificial and soulless. It's easy to get around, endless activities and sports, the Hawaiian islands are rich in culture and history, and each has its own charm. Also, the warm tropical nights can be very romantic, which you and DH might enjoy after the buzz of Vegas ;) Have a wonderful getaway wherever you decide! NL

I had my hair cut by Meghan and coloured by Holly. Both fantastic hairdressers :) Thanks, Geordie!! Will make appointments with both, pronto! Sorry, I'm new to the forum (as you can see), and learning the ropes/etiquette. I just found a recent thread with similar advice: http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic223254-i-need-an-excellent-haircut.aspx Really appreciate your patience :) Cheers, NL

I can highly recommend Essentials on Al Wasl Road. Speaking as someone who has a terrible fear of trying a new hairdresser the colour I had done there was fantastic. Hi Geordie, Can you recommend a specific stylist/colourist at the shop? I have similar issues: fear of trying someone new, and highlights-gone-wrong on my natural brown/auburn colour. At the salon where I've been going, the stylist has moved away, and it's now the second bad experience I've had with cuts and colour. I need to find someone else that will listen and I can trust. Thanks, NL

Hi discoG girl, I don't think it's about being old ;) but more about being professional and ensuring distance between work and your personal life. For me, I try to limit my FB friends to people I honestly call my close friends. Only a very few are people I work with; although I have many work-friends, I don't necessarily want my social activities, photos, political rants, etc. filtering back to my office, especially to people I supervise, or even my own supervisor :) Perhaps you could think about setting up a second account, which would be more for work colleagues and clients? As for chatting with clients on WhatsApp, especially out-of-office hours, I definitely don't do this. I work long hours, and put 110% into my career but I'm just as driven about trying to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Unless it's critical, colleagues and others can reach me through my work email or work Skype. Maybe I'm officially geriatric ... ? ;)

Thanks, svenskidubai. Much appreciated. Ultraceuticals smells delicious. Well, at least not as medicinal as Skinceuticals does!

I'm looking for Ultraceuticals products, which are Australian. Does anyone know if these are available in Dubai? The Ultra A Smoothing Complex (Retinol) and Ultra C (10%) serums are both excellent, and rival Skinceuticals' products at one-third the price. My dermatologist in Hong Kong switched me over to these but, sadly, I've now finished my treasured hoard. Failing that, where can I buy Skinceuticals? Thanks a lot.

Although I only have experience with my rescue cat, I can't speak highly enough of the amazing assistance given through DKC. If they haven't answered you (yet), I'm certain they will. My puss flew KLM unaccompanied DXB-AMS-YVR, and DKC kept me updated the entire way. I chose this routing because of a shorter layover time than the Lufthansa schedule was offering in FRA. The KLM flight and ground crews were also really helpful, both in AMS and especially on his arrival. (I was a very nervous mom). Puss arrived safe and well-looked after.
