My son will turn 3 in August and originally we had planned to put him in school for FS1 but I am beginning to worry that he wont get a place (we only have his name at Star at the moment) and also I am worried that this will be too much of a transition. He is used to being at home with the nanny. He is super clever ( Biased Mum ) and am sure he would be able for it but I would like to consider nursery just in case. We live in the marina so somewhere in this area would be best but we can travel if needed. Please advise which nurseries you would recommend and if you think taking the chance of getting an FS2 place is a risk worth taking. Thanks :)

I like the Dental health clinic at Ibn Battuta Gate offices. Dr.Ibrahim is very nice and gentle and doesn't do any unnecessary work. I find it good value also!

Hi Girls, I too am expecting in Feb (26th) this is my second. I already have a son who just turned 2, I gave birth to him here in Medcare and had a bad experience with Dr.Azza there so wont be doing that again. I am planning on having this one in City since I have heard good things. I wanted to get an appointment with Dr.Elsa since she delivered naturally for my friend. However, I cant get an appointment until January so that is not an option now. Instead I have opted for Dr. Ibrahim, he seems good and having a male doctor doesn't bother me at all one he does a good job. I have had my 12 week checkup and Nuchal scan and blood test at the clinic nearby. I have a check up next Thursday so am looking forward to that. I have been really blessed this time, after a very difficult pregnancy with my son with many complications this one has been super easy (so far). I have had Zero morning sickness and virtually no pregnancy symptoms except for my expanding belly and boobs. I appreciate that I am blessed and hope those of you not feeling well my wishes. I know how hard it can be!

If you go onto the baby centre website there is a list which you can download. Like suggested below the best thing to do is hand the child over and see how they deal with them. Good luck,it can be a stressful time and a difficult decision.

Gripe water ( Afew bottles as it only lasts I think 15 days) and calpol including calpol sachets which are great to keep in your changing bag whilst out and about.

Honestly I don't know how one can expect a nanny/ maid to work for any less than 3k. If she is good she will work hard for you so deserves to be paid well in return. How can one expect her to have a fair standard of living including eating well on a salary as low as is mentioned here. A western expat wilmlsepnd more that 1000 aed on a brunch for 2!!!! The suggested rates of pay suggest below should be reviewed! edited by Norts on 28/07/2013

Becky from Goldfish took pics of our son afew months back. She came, set up everything in the apartment and then spent 1 whole hour taking the pics. Less than 2 weeks later we had a disc with something like 30 amazing fully edited pics. We could not have been any happier, our friend loved them so much she too booked the following week.

Disgusting! How does someone forget their child, my son is in my mind 24/7 I am constantly thinking about how cute , amazing and good he is. I am thinking what shall I give him to eat today, i am always thinking I can't wait for him to wake so I can cuddle him and play with him etc. So to forget about him for 5 minutes is something! I just can't see how this can happen. Even if people have other things going on in their mind, other children, stress, work issues etc. your children should always be at the front of your mind!

We have been living in the Torch for almost 3 weeks now. So far so good! The staff are very friendly and efficient.the facilities are good although DH isn't overly happy about the ack of weight equipment in the gym. We do however love the pool area. Fingers crossed things stay as they are and that we have a happy home here

Aargh....ladies I am slightly scared as I am +6 days so my doctor has booked me in for an induction tonight at 9pm at Medcare. Has anyone else had an induction? I am predicting it is going to be a long process but trying to stay positive. I have a mixture of feelings going through my head at the moment since this is our first! It just doesn't seem real. Especially because I had so many labour symptoms the week before last and then very little last week. X

They moved; 2 beds ( one of which is tricky to move) 1sofa Dining table & 4 chairs 3 tall boys Baby's cot Around 5 boxes and other bits Charged 800 AED. They were quite slow, but got the job done! glad they were ok for you! edited by Norts on 18/07/2012

Hi ladies, Can anyone please recommend a health insurance policy for a baby. As it is we are due our baby in 2 weeks and my medical cover through work will only cover the baby for the first 24 hours ( Aetna ). My husbands work policy is so **** that he took out his own personal one so looks like we will need to do the same for the baby, his with AXA. Can anyone recommend AXA or should be go elsewhere altogether for baby? I am awaiting a listing from AXA on the hospitals which are covered, baby is going to be delivered at Medcare.. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks ladies... Well my husband is English, I am Irish and to complicate things we got married in Spain. The marraige certifcate is in English and Spanish. Mmmmmm - did you go to the Ministry of Foreign affairs in Abu Dhabi? I see they have offices here in Dubai also, so was hoping they would do it there? Wheb you say you got it attested by your own embassy is that because you got married in your home country? According to Baby steps I should have mine done in the Spanish Embassy. Just want to be sure i am doing everthing right... :)

Hi ladies, Can someone please advise me on having our marraige cert attested? Our baby is due in 4 weeks, so need to get ourselves organised and believe we need this done as part if the process? We were married in Spain so are having out marraige cert attested at the Spanish consulate, however i believe that it also needs to be attested at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Does this mean another trip to Abu Dhabi and do we need to be there for this to be done? Any advise would be most welcome ...Thanks!!

Hey, We are having a problem with our A/C which the building maintanace cannot seem to fix. We have a damp / dusty kind of smell and the rooms dont cool down the same. We even had a leak today from the vent in the bedroom. We are due our first baby in 6 Weeks and this is really stressing me out. I'm scared if it is something serious. We had a disaster in our last apartment too and seem to have no luck in the home department. We have had the building maintanace team, who are absolutely useless. Has anyone had a similar problem or can anyone recommend someone good to come check it out? Is our landlord responsible for sorting this? Would appreciate some advice... Thanks. edited by Norts on 17/06/2012

Almost everything (baby wise) is more expensive here. I am pregnant and have asked friends and family to carry over what they can when they are visitng. I will also be having the bigger stuff like the car seat, push chair etc flown over in a couple of weeks. Litterally what ever you can carry - do! Also, alot of baby basics that you would pick up in the likes of Asda are very poor quality here. Happy shopping.

Honestly i cant say that i noticed any parts edited, im sure there were some but it was in no way obvious. Enjoy if you go and bring your tissues ....

There is plenty of posts on this before....Do a search... I always recomend Gill 0506759680 -the guy is english and easy to speak to....cheap too Would not recommend this company we were left with numerous damaged items and despite promises That the quote included insurance we have not had any compensation. They repaired one item and the others remain damaged. They promised to contact me to sort it out and 2 months later...still nothing. Would not recommend! By the way Mich, his name is "Gerry". edited by Norts on 28/05/2012

Despite it apparently being insured we were Left with one item "repaired" and the others left damaged. We have never heard back from them about compensation! Very disappointing!

Hey all, Hope you are all well. Isn't it getting hard now!! I had a fetal growth scan yesterday to determine what was happening with my low lying placenta. Was given the great yet scary news that it has moved enough to allow me to have a natural birth. I am very happy but also now feel completely un prepared considering I have spend the past 16 weeks not even allowed to go for a short walk. So, this now brings me to the quetion : have any of you taken ante natal classes yet? If so, can anyone make a recommendation? I am delivering in Med care and to be honest have not yet discussed their classes with them yet but am willing to go else where should someone recomend else where. Thanks edited by Norts on 28/05/2012

Thanks for all the advice ladies. So far we are still with Medcare ( I am now 26weeks). All has been fine and i personally really like my doctor Dr Azza Gouda, she is very friendly, fun and very much to the point! I have had a couple of frutrations like appointments running a little late but i guess this is normal every where. Otherwise, i have had no negative reports lets hope it stays that way!! Thanks again... edited by Norts on 24/04/2012

Hi ladies, I am adding myself to the July group since my doctor has now quoted me as a week earlier (I was originally Aug 6th, now July 30th). This is mine and DH first, we are at the excited but nervous satage now. We are with Dr Azza at Medcare, who we like a lot so far, have had not issues to report. I am feeling ok, this week anyway! Have had some ups and downs as we all have! Currently battling with a vaginal infection which i just cant seem to shift, despite tablets and cream. I also have a low lying placenta which causes me some trouble, I should know about its progress at my next scan in 2 weeks. Hope you are all feeling well !

HI Liv, Im desperatly trying to find a class near down town or Bur Dubai. Even 530pm is very early in the evening for those who finish work at 6pm. Im hoping someone sees this thread and realises there is a real need for nighttime classes in the downtown side of Dubai.

Hi everyone, I have my 12 week scan at MedCare tomorrow which is very exciting! But is also the day when we have to commit to their Antenatal package at 5,500AED. Has anybody else taken this option, is it worth it in the end? This is our first child so not 100% sure however we are favouring this option. Any advice would be really appreciated - thanks.

Hi Zanab, we too are due in August. We found out we were pregnant just before travelling to the UK for a vacation. So we are looking at registering with an obs / gyn early next week. My insurance company will cover me at City Hospital or MedCare. I have just posted a thread here to ask other people's advise. We will be first time parents so are confused!! When do you have your first app? The GP advised me to visit at 7-8 weeks, I am now 7 weeks so hopefully next week we can see someone. Will be good to share thoughts.
