Hi, I have an employee with a question and wonder if anyone can help. She's australian and is married but her husband is working abroad and no longer has a visa in dubai, so the kids visas were cancelled. She's moving back in 2 months and she has her own residence visa, and she was wondering if there would be any issue with her taking the kids to oman for a visa run next month? As a mother will she need an NOC from her husband or any potential issues relating to that? thanks in advance for any insight

Morning all, Im looking for a new doctor for my type 1 diabetic daughter. have seen Dr hassan Mundi a couple of times, and while he's good, I don't feel that Im getting solutions to blood sugar control, or other suggestions of different ways of treating. In the uk for example I hear that some doctors recommend 2 lantus doses per day, or mid acting insulin, I just don't feel that Im getting ALL of the options here. Can anyone recommend a doctor who is quite forward thinking and can offer more guidance on such things? thanks in advance for any suggestions

Hi there, I live in the Ranches and my 2 go to Kings. Journey is absolutely fine now. if i leave a couple of minutes after 7 it takes 15 minutes, if I leave at 7.15 it takes 25 minutes, so I do tend to leave earlier. It will be even easier though when the roadworks have finished, I would certainly recommend it. I lived on the Palm for 5 years and moved this year to the Ranches, I feel so much more central to the rest of Dubai and the kids just love the community. Also note that the new Kings College (3-18yrs) will be opening in Sept 14, so if you chose to transfer there, its only 5 mins or so from the Ranches. Good luck with the move!

Unfortunately this still isn't confirmed as we will still need to wait for the moon sighting committee to convene, although it does seem to lean towards the Tues, Wed and Thursday being off, as the private sector wouldn't receive Arafat day as a holiday.

Have you tried Dragon Mart or Satwa? Otherwise you might have to look at hotel and restaurant suppliers. Not sure if you can buy single items though. You could also have a look in Geant or Carrefour. thanks marroosh, will try Geant, worth a go!

umm - i wouldn't really recommend getting this style here - you will end up with a burnt bum. If you insist. Try Dragon mart. That was my first thought too.. OUCH!! Yes obviously Ive considered that! Its for a 100% shaded area so it should be fine now we're over the worst of the summer (i hope!) thankyou

Hi DB, no its not legal at all. Some companies may attempt to deduct this from an employee, in full or pro-rated to length of service, but should the employee attend the labour office, they will be advised that its completely illegal and a resulting court case would ensure that the employee does not have to pay this. They cannot deduct from your final salary, you need to sign an agreement before your visa is cancelled that you've received your full and final dues. If the amount WAS deducted, you would then go straight to the labour office to file a complaint, and you would win. The only other way that a company may try to recoup these costs, is to disguise them as training or recruitment costs, which ARE deductable. Hope that helps x

Thanks dxbrun and Daza! My DD is 7 and DS is 9, we're in alvorada. i'll be working all summer as usual (grrr) and ours dont go back to school until sept 15th, so im stressing about their mental health being stuck in for 10 weeks! Good to know that Im not the only one that will be staying. Mine really dont like summer camp, so Im loathe to pay the money, Im sure there are things going on locally though that might be better. Hopefully there could be some opportunities to get the kids together? Am thinking of flying my niece and nephew over for a few weeks to keep them company also, thanks ladies!

Morning, Im still searching for a great diabetes specialist for my 6 year old DD. Ive had a couple of suggestions on here but still looking at all options. There are a couple of great doctors in the Uk, but I dont really want to travel back 4 times a year for appointments. I need someone who can help with all aspects of diabetes, such as eyes and feet. Im sure there are many other kids with diabetes, so any advice of who to see about this would be greatly appreciated many thanks

Tertiary education really is out of the question Im afraid, yes he's going to have to do some pretty mind numbing work, but he will gain experience, and he needs to start somewhere. He is dyslexic and really struggled through school, hence leaving after gcses, but he does at least have 8 a-cs Most of the successful business men and women I know in the UK and Dubai do not have tertiary education, so I don't see it as essential, there are other skills that can be learned, but yes, some sort of course would be good, some qualification, I just don't know what!

Hi, I also just ordered from them as the price was so much lower than in stores. The service was fast, very easy, and courteous. They have a 365 day free warranty as well (which hopefully I wont need to try out) I was happy that they asked to see the actual credit card along with my ID, as it prevents fraud. I'll definitely use again now that I know about them!

Thankyou chocs01 for such a quick response. Yes I've subscribed to Netflix using the VPN, so I guess I now have to connect my apple tv to the VPN also, I'd better find the instruction manual as I've only just bought it, too many new things to get working all at on e! Sounds like my issue will be resolved once I do that, thanks so much for your help!

The new rent is the same as last year, but we had decided to move out, the problem is that they are charging 30k cash to be paid this week otherwise we cant move! They only advised us of this today, 4 weeks after we gave notice!

No I don't have it in writing unfortunately. What Im hoping for is the fact that they sent the renewal form but did not state the price , and then did not answer that simple question in a timely manner, led to this delay.Im taking lots of deep breaths, so angry at this treatment. Have been impeccable tenants for 3 happy years, now leaving with a terrible taste in out mouths (and an empty bank account probably!) Thanks for the support though, am sure many others have been in similar situations where you are just so helpless! If anyone knows the number to contact them, would greatly appreciate it!

Yes I know, thats what I was thinking, that it was quite deliberate, and Ive written to state that as well. Ive been there for 3 years now, they put the rent up after the 2nd year, but not the first. They actually stated last year that this would be the final year, that they werent going to rent again, hence me having questions when they offered to lease to us again! So frustrated, really havent done anything wrong, and to be fined 2 months, is just sickening. Even more annoyed that Reras phone number is not working!

Morning all, Im having a bit of a sort out and getting all my old movies onto my Imac, and once ive actually learnt how to use it, might be able to do something with them! I do have some older cassette tapes though and I know that I can send them away or take them into the mall to be converted, but theres a lot so its going to cost a fortune! Does anyone know of another method that I can do myself? I dont have a camcorder to play these on. Any help from someone slightly more technical than myself would be greatly appreciated! many thanks

Thanks for all the helpful info! It does however seem to be much of a muchness! Therefore Im still unable to make a decision! We've been with EmiratesNBD skywards for 3 years, we used to earn so many miles, but now as I say, its really reduced. it is a consideration to have a card each, but realistically if we're both saving miles for the same airline, its got to be more beneficial? I think theyre wising up to the fact that so many of us now spend all our money through our credit cards (and pay it off each month just to earn points) and theyre probably not too impressed at all our free flights and free business upgrades! it does seem that theyre really pulling back on this, I imagine the amount of points we earn on any credit card will continue to reduce. Having said that though, I have heard that Citibank are still offering a slightly better conversion? If anyone can clarify that? Emirates NBD are only paying 1 mile per USD on local spends (used to be 2), but grocery shopping now only gets 0.25 per USD, and utility bill payments or government payments only get 0.10 per USD!! Oh well, was good while it lasted :(

Morning all, my husband and I currently travel with Emirates and collect Skywards miles through Emirates NBD bank. Theyve recently changed all the rates though so it makes a big difference with the amount of miles we get, theyre much harder to earn! We're thinking of changing our loyalties to Etihad and using an ADCB credit card to accumulate miles. Does anyone have any experience of Etihad and their rewards scheme compared to Emirates? I know theyre a great airline, Im more concerned about earning and spending miles (for upgrades), the ease of it, frequency, is one a better program than the other? Appreciate any advice! many thanks

Hi glamor girl, I tried those but didn't really get any results, I've just started using spectra laser at Euromed, need to have a few sessions, have only had 1 but already a distinct difference in my pores and skin tone. Will report back after the second one! Clinic is run by Rebecca Treston but she's not in at the moment, all the other girls are great though, good luck!
