I had the embroidery done in Homecentre MOE. They do however only embroider their own stuff. Alternatively there's now a really excellent embroidery stand in the basement of Town Center Jumeirah (next to Mercato).

I always love threads where Emirates staff and spouses roll over each other to complain. They pay half price at most outlets in Dubai, fly cheap, still get housing whereas most of us don't etc. etc. Thanks You SueB for putting it all in perspective!

What Molly says. Alternatively (and cheaper) you can get both at Homecenter MOE. They also do the embroidery.

Hmm, that changes things. In that case, if you trust her, let her stay with you after her cancellation, during her grace-period. Just give her time to find a new job on her own. Shouldn't be too difficult.

I have Sani Service come in annually. They do a brilliant job and yes, I would certainly recommend regular duct cleaning if you have allergies. It does make a difference.

After checking what Satwa has to offer, I head to Oleander (got this one from another thread here in EW) and didn't even bother going back to Satwa. Oleander trees are just gorgeous. They are selling at 600. Same size trees in Satwa were 800-900. Lol, not another thread. This one  And I fully agree, hence my recommendation for Oleander.

She has 30 days to leave the country. She will however be your full responsibility until she either leaves or finds a new sponsor. That's also when you'll get your deposit back. If you want to help her find a new job, it would be a good idea if you put an add in the classifieds for her. It's always a good sign if a previous sponsor is taking the effort to put up an add. And give her some extra time to go for interviews.

I would give him money. Not too much, say 50 or 100 dhs, but I would do it more often and at a time I choose (Eid etc.). I give regularly to the guy that sweeps our street and he never ever asks, but is obviously touched and happy by the gift.

Oleander http://www.oleanderonline.com/ has 7-8 ft trees for 600 dhs. They do home delivery. You won't find it much cheaper, considering those trees are being brought in from Canada.

Oleander on Beach Road (near Mercato). And surprisingly much cheaper than in Satwa. Satwa 850 for an 8ft tree, Oleander 600! Pretty sure they have branches too. And their wreaths are beautiful.

Sorry, but I find the whole concept of "pocket money " within a marriage appalling. You should have access to all funds and be able to spend as you please. If at some point your husband finds you have the wrong priorities or overspend, you can talk about it and work it out.

Very interesting. Looking now at ski.com. Any other travelling website you could recommend? Thank you all!! We usually book through the local websites: https://www.ischgl.com Or http://www.stantonamarlberg.com/en Buy separate tickets to get there. Have fun! Alternatively: Zermatt in Switzerland is perfect in March.

1. You're not to old. We're in our early fifties, far from glamorous and having a great time. 2. 450 will not get you a 5 bedroom beachfront villa. Go live in Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim, around beach road and you can have a large 5 bedroom villa + pool. Walking distance to the beach. Lot's of furniture on Dubizzle. Expats are coming and going, simultaneously selling their household goods and furniture. 3. Yes you can have live-out housekeepers. Either via an agency or you sponsor them yourself. Another reason to live in Jumeirah or Umm Suqeim, as most of them live in Satwa. 4. I love driving myself. Wouldn't want to have to rely on a driver. If your husband doesn't like driving, he can always take a taxi to work. Saves you buying a second car. Taxis are cheap. 5. Plenty beach clubs to join, prices around 25k per couple. Alternatively many hotels offer day passes. Not cheap but probably cheaper than a membership. Once you live here, you'll find you won't crave the beach as much as you think. Good luck!

I was buying products from my hairdresser and she was selling it way more expensive. I order from this website as it showed discounted price and was about 30-40% less. I am shocked to see products are fake. I have been using same product since years and always buy from salon. Can anyone suggest what step i can take? I already opened the products and used it. Smell is different, packing is almost same but it's not delivering the result. anywhere I can complain? Sorry for your bad experience but I think you're a bit naive. How can you be shocked that they're fake if they're 30-40% less than you've been paying for years? Miracles don't exist you know.

If you go in March, make sure the ski area is above 2000 meters. Otherwise there might not be enough snow. If you go to Austria, St. Anton and Ischgl are safe bets for snow.

Of course it's not. If it was a maid's room it would've been advertised as such. A storage room won't have a bathroom or a window. Not acceptable as a maid's room in my opinion!

This somehow rings many bells for me. Why does the previous employer want her to work during her grace period, why is he refusing to let her stay in the country and get a new job? If I were you, I'd talk to him. He'll get his deposit back as soon as you've issued a new visa for her. But no, once she's checked in there's no way for her to leave the airport. She's going to have to board the plain. And you don't want her in Kush for 3-4 weeks either. A week if need be, but certainly not longer.

Our maid washes our cars and windows, and yes, she needs a step to do it. She's perfectly happy doing it, because I pay her well and treat her good. Berberis, I do agree though, with agency maids it's different. They get paid **** for long days. So in your case just be nice to her and give her a good tip. But in the end always remember that she's here because she cannot provide for her family if she wasn't. Sad, but true, so all we can do is treat them with respect and pay them decent salary (or tip).

Thanks Frazzle, I called him, sent him a photo of the things that needed to be done and he immediately gave me a quote. He will send his guys do the job next week. Will let you know how it works out. @Wind777, the price seemed more than fair to me. I received a quote from one of the "respected" handyman services that was 5 times as much!

Since she hasn't done anything wrong, the decent thing to do would be to give her time to find a new sponsor. If you give her a month notice (meaning you tell her now and cancel her visa after 1 month), she has two months to find a new job, which should be enough time. If you give her space to go on interviews or a trial day while she's still technically working with you, she may be able to find a new job faster. After you cancel her visa she has 30 days grace period before she needs to exit the country. Be aware that if you cancel before her year is up, you will not get any of the fees refunded. Your deposit will be refunded after the new sponsor has completed the visa process. As for gratuity, you have no obligation. But again since she hasn't done anything wrong, it would be the decent thing to do. In your case 1 month salary would be the right thing to do. One final thought: the grass isn't always greener....

I would say that leakages and A/C maintenance are at the LL's costs. That said, the deposit always seems to be somewhat of a grey area and I have written our deposit off as I really don't think we'll get it back if we leave the property.

I'd like to think you're going mad. Seems ridiculous having to fence off a pool that's in your private garden, if your house already has a fence. As for cats and dogs, they'll probably wiggle their way through or over the fence anyway, so I doubt a fence will prevent them drowning. I'd take my chances if I was you.
