I think that it is a good thing. I am sick of people thinking they can get away with rudeness all the time. Using the F word in public is unacceptable... Absolutely fair point but some nationalities here do drive us to the point of the brink of despair with laziness and words are said in the heat of the moment..... That may be, but doesn't ever excuse abusive language. The English pride themselves of their superior vocabular, why not use it. It's not just the 'English' if in the meaning of UK expatriates I rest my case!

Don't know about you oopsiedaisy, but I can't afford to give away a few thousand dirhams worth of stuff! No I can't. But I accept that I may think it's worth a few thousand dirhams, whereas most others are after a bargain and may disagree with my evaluation of my stuff. So I spare myself the frustration and give it away.

Morning ladies, Was in MOE over the weekend and noticed its been boarded up no idea if they are refurbishing or shut down. Went to Ibn yesterday same thing, all boarded up. I was thinking of popping into Marina Mall this morning so before I make that trip would anyone know if that been boarded up too? TIA They must have read your thread. Just received a text message informing me of their new location on level 1, near cinema in MoE.

they are all closing down. They have been relocated to areas in MOE and Dubai Mall which are cheaper units until they shut them down early next year. That's terrible news, I love their shop in Mercato mall Me too, I pop into their Mercato Shop every week. Their collection of kitchenware is great and so much cheaper than Tavola.

Hi N0rdique I'm over 50 and use the same routine I've always used, with one exception. Cleanse. tone and moisturise morning and evening, except since I moved here I tend to cleanse twice in the evening, once when I get in and again with the full routine before bed. I have been a Clinique girl for years, but since coming here have slowkly changed to Clarins, make-up the lot as I found it felt better on my skin and I was much happier with it. I would ask my friend for his address. If she has a problem with that, I would explain to her as you did here. If she really doesn't want you to contact him, you can always decide not to. But it's better for your friendship to be open about your thoughts. He divorced her, not their friends, and it shouldn't matter who was the initial contact.

Ginnee, sounds as if Mrsb. Is referring to the garden souk. Drive past Dragonmart on E44, at the first roundabout turn left, then right at the next roundabout. After 500 mtrs you'll find loads of big nurseries. Thanks Oopsiedaisy. I've tried googling, is it on Manara St? I can't seem to find anything that looks like a nursery on the satelite No, it's really much further out, towards Hatta. Take the Dubai-Hatta Road (is E44 or Al Awir Street) and drive east past Dragon Mart ( appr. 20 km from Dubai Mall). Then first roundabout right and next roundabout left.

I thought you had too. OP - shouldn't it be Advice not advise...... maybe ask Mods to change it - first impressions etc.... edited by IzzyOnTheSeat on 12/11/2013 Thanks Izzy but I'll let my first impression be judged by my experience not a typo on EW. Adding to that: in American English the difference between the two is not always maintained. I remember a report I once wrote that was edited by both an English and an American editor. They kept changing each others edits. By the end I was totally lost. ? I think you may have got that wrong. Advise is clearly the verb and advice the noun in both US and English English. http://www.englishleap.com/common-mistakes/advice-advise

Best place is the Garden Souk of Al Awir road. So many shops there and you can by your bougainvillea and jasmine in all sizes.

Low cost, beach and licence don't go well together. Try one of the restaurants in the Dubai Marine Resort (Jumeirah 1). The Beachcombers Buffet (JBH) is usually reasonably priced, but probably not on NYE.

Your best bet for donating back to the community is to give money to a filipina here that you know. Its an idea that has gained a lot of ground amongst aid agencies in recent years - that basic cash transfers help communities in need faster than any other assistance. They will send it back and their family will use it as needed, buying things in the community, which helps get the economy back on its feet. Fully agree this is the way to go. Unfortunately donations via any philippine (government) agency will unlikely reach those in need. The same goes for for donating via Red Cross and the likes. Small scale direct help may not save the region, it will certainly help a few of the most desperate cases.

Aha, just signed on to ask about this...sorry if I sound dense, but is this a seasonal joint that sells only Christmas decor? Not expecting Neiman's quality...but is it kind of junky? I loved Artikel @ MOE for decor, even though they were pricey on some things. It's really really really junky. They also sell lots of candles, ribbons, fake flowers etc. Pretty sure it's open all year, but the emphasis now seemed to be on Christmas.

This is a though one. Most will have sun part of the day, depending of its exact location (high floor or not, surrounding buildings etc.) and the time of the year. That said, you will find that you are more likely to avoid the sun, than to sunbath in it, especially after the first year or so. Sun is a given here, it's everywhere and always present.

We did "The Royal Swim". About 1000 dhs pp. the entrance to Atlantis is included in this package, so the vouchers are of no use. However the cashier did fix something. Why not call them and ask them how to benefit your discounts apAND do the Royal Swim.

It really depends on your parents, are they "young or old" fifties. DH is fifty and had a blast in the Aquaventure rides. I, late forties, love being in the water, and the river and rapids are very relaxing. Swimming with the Dolphins is a lovely experience, if you take the "middle" package. So it really depends, if you're all active and love water, you will enjoy, although most people are there with their children. That said, most adults do seem to enjoy.

Just got a call from DH (who was still in line when I left) that they have started with the ceremony and closed the collection boots! About 500 people were still waiting, so it is the same chaos as during sign-up. They will (inshallah) open again after the ceremony. Apparently you can also collect it from Sunday onwards at (one of) the DM branches. Lost 7kg, 9 grams, lost 1 kg since. You too congrats! I was so surprised there seemed to be no EW participants. Apparently there are!

I just got back. When I left there were still long lines with people collecting their gold. So far they have only communicated today as official collection day, but I'm pretty sure they will announce another one. They just wanted as many people as possible for the ceremony I guess. The ceremony which, by the way hadn't started yet. Initially there was one day to sign up, ended up in 2 weeks. Keep reading the papers I suggest.

TDB, I can only guess your nationality, but whatever happened to the days that the Brits knew exactly what to wear to and how to behave at a wedding? I think smart chic is really a Dubai thing, so can see how others might not have an idea. With respect to your guests bringing others etc., that is absolutely ridiculous. Don't you have a master of ceremonies (or else a good friend) who can sort that out with your guests?

I have to say, I thought it one of the most irresponsible and ridiculous promotions I've ever come across! People were likely to crash diet and do stupid things, in a bid to lose a lot to win some gold. People aren't monitored by nutritionists or health professionals. Losing weight and being healthy is a lifestyle - not a quick thing. This is up there with that daft radio ad 'discounts based on your waist size' - stupid, stupid, stupid! You are absolutely right. But if you are trying to loose weight anyway (as many on this forum seem to constantly be doing), it served as just that little extra push.

This sounds like a non- renewable contract. So unless you can come to an agreement with your LL about staying, it certainly seems as if you must move out. Assuming you ave signed this contract you have "agreed to vacate the premises on expiry date". No other notice required. But for your sake I hope someone can tell you different.

More than agents I blame the media for considering high rental prices to be good I agree with Arch. Each and every article you read about real estate makes it look as if the high rents are an indication of the economic growth of the country. Waiting for it to backfire (again!).

I don't think giving 12 months notice can be described as kicking tenants out. I do. We're happily settled here and I have to uproot my entire family because my landlord is feeling greedy? Why is a LL greedy when is is adhering to his contract and giving you 12 month notice. Even though it is uprooting your family, you did sign for it. We all know this can happen in Dubai. 12 months is more than enough to find another place.

Not necessarily a better bet. If her employer lets her go after end of contract (talk to employer) they will cancel visa and you have 30 days to apply for a new visa for her. Is what I did and it worked out just fine. The previous employer saved the flight back home, I didn't have to go through an expensive agency or fly her in.

If you know how to install it, go to ACE, they sell what you're looking for. If you can't do it yourself, call a Plummer and he will provide the tap you need. Good luck, have it done yesterday rather than today, 5 people is indeed a lot of dishes.

There are 2 ways to get your deposit back: 1. You cancel her visa and put her on a plane home 2. You give her time to find a new sponsor, then cancel and as soon as her new sponsorship is arranged you can get your deposit back with a copy of the visa page of her new sponsor.
