We had this long discussion in the maids forum. Maids get their holiday money (if away they get paid for the salary for when they will be away), but not another month tagged on. 12 months salary per year. It would be so much more helpful if you would stop voicing your personal opinion as "facts". If she has worked for 12 month, then leaves to be transferred, you pay her the month holiday she is entitled to after a year. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 14/02/2013

Your requirements sound totally reasonable to me. 8-6 (assuming she has one day off) is really fair, so just sit down and revisit the ground rules. How far does she have to travel home?

Thank you ladies, she is asking upon completition of her 1 year contract before she transfers to her new family a paid flight home (although she is not going) and a bonus of 1 month salary.... I hired a "transferred" maid last year. Her former sponsor paid neither ticket, nor holiday. I thought that was awful. Personally I would pay both (considering the circumstances). But as I said earlier, if she doesn't go home, you are not obliged to pay her the money. That is at your discretion. She is however entitled to her holiday money.

Not really because I could see it coming and leave before it got to that level. Anyway, are you saying that there's then nopoint in walking out? Surely better to shorten the exposure of the episode to eveyone else then let it continue. I saw the warning signs with my middle nephew very early on and by telling him what would happen, his response would tell me if a storm was coming and I would just leave with him. I could handle him better alone in the car then in front of a crowd of people, he loved an audience!! :) Fair point SkyKitty.

Yes, you're right, it is a complete reversal of the normal drip feed :D I do hope the OP's dog is ok. I'm sure the dog is ok, but OP has deleted all of her threads. I guess that's the difference between b*tchiness and a debate.

Actually I think there ARE times that kids should be seen and not heard, e.g.in a cinema with others, in restaurants etc... I'm not talking normal 'being a kid and playing nicely' but screaming/tantrums shouting. I can say this as I was a bit of a horror tantrum-thrower myself, no matter how inconvenient, my parent swould remove me and we would go home if I wouldn't behave. I saw the starts of many movies but not the ends, until I was well behaved enough to sit in a cinema and watch a movie quietly with everyone else. (bit different for an actual kids' movie, I agree) I think sometimes parents don't realise that their kids are too young/not enough attention span for certain activities and don't choose accordingly... it's kind fo selfish because the parents may want a night out but don't take into account whether their particular child is suited to the activity. E.g. taking a little kid late at night to a grown up movie they do not like or understand. Of course the poor kid is going to make a fuss, any child would when bored or scared. I get that it's a hassle for babysitters etc but sometimes you can't do things with kids that you can do as a solo adult. I say this not having my own kids but having spent a lot of time caring for nieces/nephews. [b'>I have had to walk out of movies, restaurants, you name it because one of them wouldn't behave or threw a tantrum/ran amok etc.... [/b'> Plent yof palces for people with kids, I agree, why shouldn't there be places with no kids? I hate bars and clubs, all that loud music so youcan't talk, smoky environment, mostly ment trying to hit on me and I jsut want a quiet night! So yes I love the movies and hate being interrupted by any rude/bad behaviour whether it be adult or child! Sorry to mention as I'm sure you mean well, but by the time you have to walk out, it's already to late for the other diners, spectators etc.

They're not permitted in the Gold/Platinum seats at Vox and Reel cinemas. Is this a seperate theater, or just a seperate seating section? I haven't been to the theater since I moved here two years ago just to avoid the undisciplined children. It's a separate theatre with lazy chairs and food and drinks served to your seat. Tickets are 100 aed though.

I don't have kids and don't mind at all when they are around in "adult" areas, its not fair on the parents to be expected to be stuck at home or play areas only because they have children that they "cant" take out with them even if it is at night (I highly doubt those kids are out every single night and missing their bedtimes!) In fact I always find myself smiling and saying its alright to mummies who look worried or start apologizing when their kids start to act out.. its not their fault! I hate this whole kids must be seen but not heard business, even the most disciplined children will act out as do adults! [b'>I've seen as many adults making scenes and being loud and disturbing as kids are to be honest.. [/b'> Hitting the nail right on the head. I see so many drunk, misbehaving adults around here that I'm not surprised most kids behave the way they do.

Thanks she will be transferring directly to another family so are we required to give her a flight ticket home? I thought this would be the case if we renewed her contract? confused.... No, if she is transferring you do not have to give her a ticket home. Nor do you have to give her the ticket money in lieu. Unless you want to.

Just out of curiosity, how does one call someone stupid in a polite way? I mean if someone is really stupid, they need to know it. Stupid is only relative. What seems stupid to you, may be genuine to someone else. I have been raised with: There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 13/02/2013

Too me there is a huge difference between a genuine debate and b*tchiness. I embrace the former, am not a fan of the latter. But it is true that most debates on here eventually turn into a b*tch fight, which gets the thread deleted, included a lot of well meant advice as well as different opinions.

I have to say that Groupon do not care in the slightest about these things. If you purchase anything from them, be prepared to lose your money. Adding to this: Most participating hotels/restaurants must be pretty desperate to try and get the Groupon customers. Groupon is under attack in my home country, because of the incredibly low percentage of the deal that eventually flows back to the companies. I therefor understand that the participating companies, albeit happy with the increased clientele, are reluctant to go beyond the absolute minimum. I only read negative threads on here about Groupon, am warned, therefor never have and never will use them.

If everyone was all roses and compliments on this forum, it would not survive. The debates, controversy, and banter are what keeps it going. And let's be honest, it makes it for a very interesting and entertaining read. If ladies can't handle that and are too sensitive, then it's not the right forum for them. Yep. Agree Me too! Me three

gosh really? That's bizarre - the box only has front! I was convinced the green/blue was to differentiate between the two machines. No, it's differentiating between bio and non-bio. But I don't know what that is all about. Purple is for coloured wash, but green and blue?

1. You will get your deposit back when she leaves the country, or after her new sponsor has finalised the visa process. You will need a copy of the sponsor's visa page in order to get your deposit back. 2. Your new nanny can overstay, and if you decide to sponsor her you will have to pay for the overstay. That said it is technically illegal for her to work for you as long as you are not her sponsor. We did this with our maid, but at least we had already set the sponsor process in working, so we could always prove our intentions. There was a thread on here recently about a maid taking a plain to Muscat and coming back the same day. But I don't know how it works, sorry.

Wow, I think some of those costs are made up. Never heard of transfer fee, in country stamp, visa status change. Visa deposit: yes (you get it back after cancellation of the visa). Medical: yes, but can be done cheaper, unless you want it done in one day. Visa stamping: yes, that would be the actual visa.

I do not agree with Daza. Sure, at employers direction, but if she wishes she can insist on 1 full month, instead of split up. The contract says one month at end of contract! You cannot expect her to go home for only 2 weeks. What would she do during the other 2 weeks, hang out here? She cannot afford a ticket. And if you decide to go on vacation 5 times a year for 1 week only, that will just be her luck.

There is no such thing as a reputed developer. Not here, not anywhere. All they care about is money, they don't give a #### about you and your rights. Unfortunately they are very powerful everywhere, as a single consumer you won't have a leg to stand on. Maybe try connect with buyers in a similar position and see if you can build a case together.

I would definitely not let her take two months after this year. She might not come back, and you would loose a lot of money. If you do want to accommodate her, even if it is inconvenient to you, let her take the two months after the next year of contract, and make sure it coincides with your own plans. As for the unpaid leave, depending of course on your personal circumstances, but I would probably not allow that either. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 09/02/2013

I think you are probably allowed to split it up, but it should be mutually agreed upon. If she wants to use her annual leave to visit her home country, it would be very unfair to cut it short against her will, and then refuse to pay for the second flight home. Even if you agree on a split vacation, you should pay for the second flight if she wishes t to go home, how else is she going to afford it? If she wants to save her money, and not take the flight, it guess it would be oke to split up her annual leave. She will naturally have to be allowed to stay at your house in that case.

I agree some effort has to be made by the home front to make time to see you when you come over. On the other hand you cannot expect everyone to drop everything only because you decided to drop in for a weekend. And if you don't think it's worth the money: Don't go. Back home it is common practice for grandparents to mind their grandchildren a couple of days a week. Most grandparents enjoy this. I must say you all sound a little bit jealous. We are all here for a reason. Consider those reasons, add up the pro's and con's, and see where you end up.
