For keeps: A silver kanjar, or one of these silver letter holders where you can get his name engraved. For long time fun: Beats Headphones, they were a hit at christmas for our teenagers.

For us also Bupa via DH's company. Excellent, both in direct billing as well as self claiming. No issues with coverage.

I've never seen any dogs there. Would assume it to not be allowed. Even on a leash they may distract or upset the horses if they start barking.

We Dutch cook it and than mash it with potatoes. But you need a lot of kale for it. More than the average Spinney's supply.

There is a huge difference between a maid and a nanny.... very few people in Dubai seem to know the difference. Perhaps if children were left with qualified nannies and not unqulaified maids, then there would be no need for cameras. My point exactly. Over and over again. I just cannot understand how people insist they have a nanny whereas they pay them around 7 dhs/hr and have them clean toilets and do the ironing as well. Hire a nanny and I really don't think you need a camera.

No you don’t pay for the book. This is the HSBC Entertainer book which you get FREE if you an HSBC Premier customer.... That what I meant, sorry if I wasn't clear. You pay for the full Entertainer book (or app), you don't for the HSBC version. So off course there will be less outlets in it. Why would Entertainer give away their offers for free. Same goes for the free DU version of the app. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 05/01/2015

Why puzzling? It's a free app for you as a consumer, but HSBC is paying their part for your free consumption.

Hi BR, Happy new years best wishes. Yes i saw the gulfnews write up on them. There is a thread on it too...i did not bother to look as there are so many bad vibes from trolls on here..you can tell by the thumbs down. (Pointless) Its a good service I think for who needs it. I still did not find a suitable nanny seems the hunt is tedious for a good caregiver. So if a poster disagrees with you or dislikes the idea of cameras it makes them a troll?

I can only hope they also find a way watch employers beating up or sexually harassing their maids.

Or maybe, on this one but last day of 2015, they were expecting some words of grievance for the families of the people that are missing from the AirAsia plane, or maybe some reflections over 200.000 killed in the war in Syria.... Take care Nomad edited by Oopsiedaisy on 30/12/2014 Sorry Oopsiedaisy but anyone including yourself have the ability to start their own thread about the issues you bring up. Because I chose to share with those on the forum, who I have come to know over the years They do, and I'm not saying you shouldn't post or that I don't feel for you. I'm answering a question and personally, when reading the thread title I was expecting something different.

Lol, and have them climb up my 1000 dhs Christmas tree? No thanks. Hope you find a good home for them Izzy. I used to have cats and dogs, still love them (dogs mainly to be honest), but have somehow gotten allergic to them over the years.

Sorry to say, but that's the going rate for a live-out maid. No nanny qualifications. you'ld be hiring maid services. If you can't afford it you may have to start looking for someone to live in. Expect to pay minimum of 1500AED/month, 1 month paid vacation, annual flight home + appr. 6000AED fees. Plus you will fall under the new GCC contract, which includes paid overtime and a maximum amount of overtime as well. And still, for that money you're hiring a maid, not a nanny.

Someone on here mentioned they were asked 2000 for a tree in Satwa. I paid 1000 in Satwa on Friday, I know I know...... But I desperately wanted a fresh one and there was not a single one to find in Dubai last week. That said, it's a lovely tree and we're enjoying it each time we walk past. Except they're not so fresh anymore! It's their November shipment that finally hit the stores. Haven't seen a drop of water since they arrived in Jebel Ali end November. As opposed to the ones that arrived in Satwa last weekend that were flown in directly from Europe. The price difference was just too big so I went and found out.

Infuriating! I wouldn't let them get away so easily. Try to escalate (7-Days maybe), request at least an apology and some sort of compensation.

But will they adapt the rent calculator? Prices there are just out if control. If they don't adapt it downward, many landlords will still see fit to increase the rent. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 18/12/2014

Go for moral blackmail. Tell her you love her and can't bare to see her eating herself to death. Tell her you (and her grandchildren?) want to spend many more holidays together. Maybe it helps, aybe it doesn't, but it won't hurt anyone.

My niece is visiting and she would love one of those Henna Tattoos. Other than the ones in Souk al Bahar or Madinat, can any of you ladies recommend a place that does it (safely and properly) for a more reasonable price? I'm in Jumeirah.

Please help with ideas on how I can reach out to them and tell them what is happening without offending them. Why don't you just try and talk to them, explain in the way you wrote your post. If you are understanding about it, I don't see how that could offend them.

First: A reason for people to take on illegal help is to save the costs of sponsorship. They wouldn't save if the maid then required a 500 dhs raise a month, so this lady is seeing it from a very single minded perspective. Secondly, although I know that many do indeed hire maids without sponsorship, most of those maids live out. And thirdly I agree with Anon, I would never let some man live in my house. You can search as much as you like, call the employer etc. but no way will you find that there is a legal way about doing all this.

Well, there weren't any fireworks on City Walk. Just complete chaos of traffic that had been diverted from Beach Road to prevent the Annual Fun Car Parade. Sad that an innocent spontaneous event soo many people participate in to show their national pride has been brought to an end. The city walk ones were cancelled ? Don't know about cancelled, they certainly didn't happen :(

Why would they let you off with minimum charges? In most countries you'll be charged a new ID or passport if you loose it. How can you blame the authorities if YOU loose your ID. Sadly EW is becoming a whining site :(
