Hi Sophia, My son was assessed by Dr. Sara. She's a developmental pediatrician and I also see her for general stuff and vaccinations etc. We really get on and she even texts and takes phone calls. Her follow up is amazing and after taking on her advice I've seen such improvement in my son's development. She gets regular updates from the therapists and they then confer and modify his therapy accordingly.

Dr Sara, pediatrician at Kidsfirst on Wasl Rd does assessments in a team approach along with the speech therapists and psychologists there. We were very impressed with the support, professionalism and advice we got. She continues to support through follow up phone calls and emails way after the assessment.

I've been taking my kids to Dr Sara at Familyfirst on Wasl Road (Police Academy end) 04 3805430. She really listens and takes my opinions into consideration. I don't think my kids have had any antibiotics since we've been seeing her!

The Pediatricians (Dr Ahmed and Dr Sara) at Family First Medical Center in Umm Suqeim rarely prescribe antibiotics for my kids - sometimes it's nice just to get some reassurance from an expert.

Dermovate [i'>is[/i'> a cortisone/steroid cream, but don't use on large areas. Have you taken Chlorpheniramine...makes you drowsy but great for allergic rashes.

I know that the counsellors at the German Neuroscience Centre in Dubai Healthcare City are amazing. They do have a psychiatrist there too who is highly qualified but I can't personally recommend. Otherwise, do see your gynae and I'm sure she will be able to help by making a referral for you.

I have been with a local company: Alliance Insurance (04 6051264). I chose the plan for emergency/elective hospitalisation only (Inpatient only plan). So outpatient visits to the doctor are not covered. It's a great deal at AED 3500/annum for the four of us. The best part is if you're traveling, even to the US, and you need to be admitted under emergency circumstances they will cover it. They also cover chronic conditions and cancer after a short waiting period (which a lot of other policies don't). Luckily, I've never had to claim, so not sure how good the service actually is. Another thing the ladies were talking about is the government hospitals here. If you receive treatment in the Emergency dept it will be free as long as you have been triaged as an 'emergency'. If its anything 'non-urgent' you will be charged. If you need to be admitted this is also charged but considerably cheaper than private hospitals. So the bed charges are 150 for the general ward, or 500 for a private room. Expect to pay at least 10x as much in a private hosp. To see a GP in a government clinic like Umm Suqeim, Safa or Badaa etc it costs 250/visit. So it's a good idea to get a health card for around 300/year.

Found the ad for my SZR apartment in the Gulf News Classifieds, but we did also approach a few security guards in the lobbies of the nicer buildings.

The free clinics at the Pakistani Association are for anyone of any nationality who can't afford a consultation with a highly qualified physician. Clinics are on the last Friday of every month.

You could try getting to some of these children through the Indian or Pakistani Associations. I know they have free clinics once a month. They could at least direct you to the right schools. Way to go, great initiative!

I've had insurance forms filled and got my claim back after visits to Latifa Hospital...just keep some forms with you because finding the right doctor after the event is almost impossible.

We just moved into a huuuge 3 BR flat on Sheikh Zayed Road (near Shangrila Hotel). Rent: 100k!! It's really accessible so I'm sure the school bus would go there. Try JLT as well.

They will mostly just observe how he holds a pencil, plays with blocks or a puzzle. They want to see that he follows instructions and can answer a few questions- easy stuff, nothing to worry about. You sound so anxious... Relax it's no big deal
