This is probably the most boring thread of the night but I need to know what others did....My son needs to wear a mouthguard for this term at school as they have started to play rugby. The problem is he has an open bite and can't really bite in properly to fit it. What do I do in this case?? Do I need to have one made especially for him? Where would I do that as I know it is possible to have them custom made but I don't know know where... That's it, thank you all and good night!

She is only 3 and a half??? Soooo young! She is still a baby herself and what she needs is love, patience, understanding, time alone with mum or dad, even if 30 minutes. Just forget about what happened and tell your sister not to do sleepovers again, until she is much older. What she needs is inclusion and love. Children this age, and much older ones, sometimes ask for things and have no idea if it's feasible and sensible thing to do!!

oh this is wonderful. Thank you all. I notice they have a Changi transfer service where they will transfer luggage for you from one airline to another (provided it is a participating airline), but don't want to pay for the service if I don't need too! Also, does anyone knows if online baggage allowance are refundable if unused. (I know this would be sheer luck!!)

Yes, Thanks so much Hamra. It's my first time in Singapore and travelling with children so I have no idea. To be more precise I am landing in Terminal 2 with TigerAir from Bali at 18:25, then have to clear immigration, get bags for all 4, and re-enter to catch next flight, this time from Terminal 1 with Emirates at 21:25. Of course, all of the above is impossible if there is a delay in the first flight, but just wondering if all good and no delays, do we even have enough time/Have you ever done this??

Dear all, We are flying to Bali via Singapore. We first go to Singapore with Emirates, and a few days later going to Bali with TigerAir. We fly back to Singapore and catch our flight to Dubai with Emraites same night. HAs anyone done this before? Is it easy to go from T1 to T2 in Singapore? Will we need to clear immigration & get luggages in SIngapore when we return?

Hi Katnip, Edited to ask: how long it takes to fly there from Dubai? Is it a direct flight? Which airlines is better/cheaper? Just went to see the hotels in Malaysia, looks gorgeous!! I have a few questions: how was the beach? Is it easily accessible and safe to swim with small children? Were there enough restaurant to cater for 4 if you are staying a whole week? Is it easy to venture out of the hotel to go on little expeditions and visit around? Definitely looks stunning! Great the places you can visit from here! Thank you so much for all your feedback Oreo edited by oreo on 07/01/2014

I thought you meant parents who constantly moan and complain as if they have absolutely nothing else to do...I agree with RT, parents should be allowed to discuss any concerns, questions, or school results, but teachers have to be able to do their job. The issue often is that parents here are not able to trust the school, because the objective #1 of some schools is: $$$$. Do you feel this way about your school?

Hi FlyDiver11, You are pretty thorough and clever to go in old posts. Are you a maid? Do you have a maid?? then surely you know that things will never be perfect unless you do them yourself, and even then, you'll break things, put clothes in the washer when you're not supposed to, or forget to dust a corner. But at the end of the day, when someone does it all for you, it's so easy to blame them. Yep, that's right I wrote this in the past as I had a not so good period with me, and really, I was getting tired of the whole maid situation if you read all my post. In fact, you've missed the bit where I say she is hard working. All my friends say she is such a lovely lady, but for the exact reason I also mentionned in the past, she is getting tired of cleaning a 5 b/r villa with 3 balconies and 40 windows. She wants to downsize to an appartment. The kids absolutely love her, also, if you read in my previous posts, you skipped that part. And for sure she will be missed. She gets up before 6 every morning and prepares breakfast for kids, and then goes on to clean the house. When she started with us, I had to tell her to slow down a bit. So there you have it, you just need to interview her now, because I think she'd be a lovely maid for a couple or a single living in an appartment, with no kids. If I have omitted anything I'll be sure you're checking all my posts. Thank you edited by oreo on 04/12/2013

Afternoon all, I am looking for something different to do for my son's birthday which wouldn't be at home...has anyone ever done a birthday party in Dino Live? They have a package at AED888 on YellaBanana but there are so many options included it is overwhelming just reading this. I don't think 5 year olds can do all this in 2 hours! Have you ever done it? How was it? Oreo

You need to have the technician for the company where your hub is coming from to come and changes the nozzles of your hub. I had the exact same problem because my hub had nozzles made for natural gaz but where I live, it is propane gaz. Only a qualified technician can do this.

Hello ladies, Kids have been back to school for 2 weeks already, we are slowly returning to the routine, hope you all had a nice lovely summer. For me, this time of the year means: BIRTHDAY PARTY season!! I have to plan my son's birthday party and he is turning 8. I declined his request for a party at Ferrari World (!), but now he wants a party at Sega Republic. I do not mind except for the noise level in there! Does anyone has any suggestions for a boy party? Can't believe my baby is turning 8 already : ( Anyway, enjoy your day!

FrenchMomof3 thanks so much, your tips are great! I am wondering if I should tell my kids now or wait until the eldest do his year end assessments, which will be end of May. He is not very good at adpating at new situation as he is quite sensitive, but don't want to disturb him at school as he is doing so well this year! It's tricky! I wish I would like moving like you!!!

FrenchMomof3, that's great, thank youfor the reference. I've moved so often in my life but since in Dubai we only move into our villa when we came and we've been there ever since. I am quite nervous about the whole thing actually because we haven't moved in 6 years and I'm getting rusty at it!! Even though we are moving within the ranches (and quite literally down the street) I feel so nervous as to the kids reaction, especially the youngest who has never seen another home! How did you manage moving the family? Also, I should add that we are moving a 5 bedroom villa so not a small one! Any other suggestions?

Good morning ladies, Can anyone recommend a moving company that does both packing AND unpacking. I found some threads on this subject dating back to last year but would like more recent info and also, nobody mentionned anything about packing? Do they usually pack everything for you? Do you have any suggestions? thank you!

Thank you all. However, can't help thinking that I have friends here who survive without a maid (but they don't live in the ranches with a 5 bedroom villa), my mum survived all her life without help, and how it would be to be able to walk in my underwears all day in the house!!! the hard work does not scare me and I am a control freak, on the other end, it's nice to come home to a clean house. I want my kids to do their own bed and to know how to vacuum also. The issue of the English is a good one too. Our native language is not spoken at home anymore either because of this. I really don't know what to do!!!!!!

I completely understand how you feel. My oldest is exactly the same and still is at 7.. It's just part of his personality, not only how you raised him. When children come and push and grap toys, I learned to step in and defend himself. I'm hoping this will help him later by learning from example. Now, he is much better at this and has learnt to defend himself. Don't change your way of raising him. I have also realised that sometimes parents think it's funny when their children are agressive like this tkinking they are very confident and know "how to defend themselves" , to the point where they forget manners. I have noticed my 7 yo , although the gentlest boy, has learned how to gain the respect of others in different ways then being the loudest.

Hi Daza, This is so true. YOu can't compare both behaviour, but yet this one is so challenging that sometimes I feel disarmed to deal with him. I do have raising boys and started to read it years ago, now I'll get back to it. For sweets, I am really concerned, because he seems to easily have cavities even with brushing and we have diabetes in the family. I wonder how much sugar a 5 year old can process... Anyway, thanks again for all the great feedback. It is a challenge!

If you are in a situation in your life where you have a stable partner (are you married , as this may be an issue here) and you feel you are ready? How old are you? then aboslutely go for it. Life really starts when you have children. And ignore all my other threads about my boys giving me grey hair. They are beyong amazing! Hope this helps!

thank you all for the very constrctuvie comments. Frazzled I agree with everything you say. My oldest is 7 and youngest is 5 so they are quite close in age, hence even more competitive for my attention. The thing that really makes me upset and worried is that even with a good and healthy snack, he comes back home and keeps asking for sweets although we are about to have tea with food he really likes! Now he is playing smart trying to climb to access the sweeties jar and take scissors to open them. I tell him there will be consequences if he does not listen to me. We have rewards sticker charts. I try to tell off the older one whenever he is criticising the youngest. My DH is really helpful as well, very good with both. PLus we repeat all the time they must love each other as they have to be there for each other for a lifetime. I guess the only thing I need to do more is more separate playdates, and more time with the youngest. He is struggling a little at school at the moment as he is learning to read and write and the writing is particularly not so good these days. It's very challenging indeed but help so much to have the lovely feedback from all of you and share our experiences. Anyone else has similar issues?

Well I would stay away from Bab al Shams, while the food was lovely, they packed in way too many people And as a result service was dreadful...so bad that we left no tip at all. There were flies everywhere (not their fault) but made worse by the fact dishes were not clearer in a timely manner...so bad that at one point I cleared our table of 14 myself..and getting a drink...well that is a whole different story! Kids did love it, but for the money would not go back. I had a few friends with kids that went to Meydan and had a great time. edited by Elmpark on 29/01/2013 Maybe if you wait a year the service will get better....

Unfortunately here unless you are working for a western company in a very specialised job, you are competing against low cost staff who is saying yes to everything. It creates a too high standard where everyone has to be exploited or else they are considered too expensive or too old or too senior. It is a totally different mentality then back home. Here you are considered like a salary, an expense. edited by oreo on 29/01/2013

Check for cavities,do cleaning and then polishing. Thats the minimum. Fluoride treatment is an extra expense these days and has to be requested. My dentist also gives me tooth sensitivity treatment for free on request (it just a gel he places on my teeth). Im guessing for children it would be the same. edited by Asti on 01/10/2012 I can't believe a preventive treatment is not free, oh wait...of course, they make much more money fixing cavities......I should have been a dentist!!! Does anyone know of a mouthwash for kids with fluoride in it. Mouthwash for adults would be a bit too "spicy" as my son likes to say!

You have to pay for the min. number of kids even if you don't have 10. Sometimes siblings come along and they increase your amount. It's like this everywhere, this is how they do their margin...

I have loads of these in my life. You need to see doctor because symptoms vary from person to person. You need antibiotics because liquid only is not enough. Drinks loads of water as cranberry juice is good but too much sugar. The doctor will do a test on the spot and will tell you if UTI or not.

Tried Maldives and Mauritius and Maldives is paradise....Mauritius was a bit disappointing for the beaches, to much coral reefs and sea urchins so dangerous for little ones to swim, extermely expensive for what you get.

Thank you all for fab ideas. I really like the idea of the kids go cart and lasergame at motor city. I had no idea this existed (especially the laser one). This looks really cool, but kids might be a little small for this, especially his little brother. OK still searching for other venues. Maybe ice rink would good as he likes skating and football not for him. He wants to do party at ski dubai but he is not insisting and we have done them before. I jaust dread the whole think to be honest and wish I could do a "normal" b-day not Dubai standard...

OK, so most of you are getting 2 days off, but I guess it depends also what week you a reworking: Monday to Friday or Sunday to Thursday. My employer wants to give us Satruday and Sunday, but we don't work on Saturday so I am taking Monday off!!!! I believe the public holiday as prescribed by the government is 2 days. Does any of you know what is the legal Eid holiday?
