yyzdoh Thanks for replying. That is great. I heard there were many Canadians there. We are in our 50"s no kids with us. Our first posting without them. Thanks for offering to answer any questions. Hopefully we will have our decision made by next week. Would love to connect. Thx

Hi DebK, My hubby has been in Doha this week negotiating his contract and all is looking positive so I think we will be reporting sometime between Dec 15 - 30th. I will post when we get situated so we can perhaps meet for a coffee. It will be nice to make some new friends there. I lived my whole life in BC before moving overseas in 1998, but my Hubby has lived all over Canada. Cheers,

Thanks TamiQ1 for your reply on this probably sensitive subject. My Husband was just there this week and said he didn't notice any issues so I guess at this time that is positive and shouldn't stop us going ahead with the contract. Appreciate your assistance. Cheers

Hi Winster I really appreciate your reply. Maybe that is why the agent took my hubby to Sara Tower, he knew people were moving due to the construction. I think we will have to come early and check it out personally, like you mentioned.. He will be in doha next Mon so will also ask him to get map of area and newspapers. The websites on advertise the different apartments but not availability.. Did you rent a fully furnished 2 bedroom again,? We would be interested in a 2 or 3 bedroom fully furnished place. If you hear of anything available, would you be able to let me know, perhaps hubby can check it out while there next week. Sorry to be nosey, would you be willing to say how much are you now paying for Beech Tower, and are any utilities included? Thanks again for your guidance. Perhaps we can meet up when we move over. Cheers,

Again, more great info. thx Katcalls, it is nice to know we aren't the only ones confused. We just may give the tax line an anonymous call as you have suggested and do the online documents as non-residents and see what comes up. We don't own any property there, haven't stayed more than 3 wks at any time and we are both out of the country. We only have our RRSP's and life insurance, dr. lic, accounts , a credit card, & passports there. We send money to our family for gifts. It is very much appreciated if you were able to send your Accountant's contact information. We are from Vanc and are going back for a vacation in August. It would be great if we could possibly tee up a time them him. At least he has some experience with expats. DH is hoping to have all the job negotiations finished by the end of august as I think they were looking for the job to start in Sept. They mentioned working from Aus for the first 3 months then move to Doha. Maybe this will also give them time to get documentation organized.....

That's great news. We all them all in books, not in their covers so if anyone did look through the books, it should be ok, Some don't even have pictures on the discs. We were thinking that the only way we could take them would be to put onto an external hard drive as tamieg1 mentioned. Thanks again ladies.

Has anyone brought in their DVD's etc to Doha? Any problems, any custom's "viewing fees"? We have built up a big collection of our favourite movies. Of course no porno but any other issues we should be aware of? Has anyone found another other way to access movies? Satellite TV package - are there the popular "Hollywood" movie channels in this package? Cheers,

Thank you all for the great information. I guess we need to make some enquiries to the employer about what they will be covering/offering. I guess I misunderstood the rental process and it is just the post-dated cheques that you need to supply in advance. Thanks for clearing that up. We have been thinking more about the housing , sounds like it might be better to get an unfurnished place and bring our container of household goods. I haven't looked yet, but are there many unfurnished apartments available? They should be less expensive and with just the two of us I don't think we need a villa/house. Does anyone else rent an unfurnished 3 bed apartment and be able to tell me approximate rents and what is typically included? When we move to Malaysia we arrived with a few boxes & suitcases & we moved into a fuilly furnished 3 bdrm apt . 5 yrs later we left with a 20 c/mtr container (bought a couple custom made furniture items) . We will now be coming from our own fully furnished 4 bdm house here and the thought of selling alot of our stuff is not only a headache but sometimes you don't get much either. It would be easier to just downsize some and move it with us - have to negotiate that in our contract I guess, or more discussions with my DH. GinaM - was your villa unfurnished? What are the main expat areas? I don't know yet what area the company office will be in so that makes it hard to determine some of the costs. What is the avg cost of the cable/phone/internet package - (international shows/movies ). Thanks Nosey Norah for the other thread, I will check it out. Clothing - I suspected it was much like Malaysia but I think they are still a bit more liberal than Doha so will have to start adjusting my wardrobe some. Too bad, a shopping trip may be required prior to the move. Activity - Ladies groups - In previous postings I have belonged to a mahjong group, a Canadian group and a neighbourhood ladies group . I can't seem to find out much on the different groups there. Are they different for maybe each area that people live in and not city wide? Cosmetics - do any of the stores there carry Clarins? I hope so since they are a global company. Thanks again,
