My daughter is over 2 1/2 and she is still happy rear facing, we have a Britax Highway from carseat.se. We have a second forward facing seat that we got 2nd hand for nursery drop off in my husbands car and she doesnt even worry about swapping between them. In fact she seems to prefer my rear facing seat because she can look at herself in the mirror! The belted seats are harder to install but they are rock solid and they feel really safe. I didnt bother with the coverting seat as I thought by the time she has been in this seat for a few years we will be ready to move onto a different booster type seat when she is around 4 years old. Plus this seat will be handed down to the next child (inshallah!) If you have any questions re the seat maybe email Hakan at carseat.se and he will be able to give you more info on it, he is very helpful.

I always thought I would put my daughter in after three years also but as she started getting older I realised she might need some time away from me!! I was having second thoughts up until the moment she started (she was 2 year 4 months) but it was the best thing I ever did. She just goes three days a week from 8-12.30 and I was really happy with my choice of nursery. I was taking her on lots of playdates and a music class etc but it has just been great to see her thrive with her own independence from me. She was a social child anyway but she is so proud of herself now and she is so happy to see me when I pick her up. I dont think she has actually learnt a lot since she has been there but they do a lot of art that we dont do at home and it has also been great to see her get more grown up. When she first started she would only do her own thing, not sit on the mat and listen to a story (because she was too busy playing!) now she listen more and will take instructions better. They have also have a "tidy up" song that I now use at home to get her to pick up toys. I dont think any child will miss out they dont go to nursery and it sound like you have all the bases covered. I basically did so we could have some space from each other and I could be a better mum with more patience haha!

I did classes at Health Bay Clinic and while the information was useful it was the friendships I made that were the lifesaver! Almost three years later we are still good friends and we still keep in touch with the ones that have now left Dubai. It was a sanity saver to meet up with people who were going through those sleepness nights aswell as friends with older kids tend to forget what its like at the time!! I delivered at American but I heard most people didnt really make friends from their antenatal classes so thats why I choose a clinic. Good luck!

I swear by NapiSan Baby (under Vanish brand), its a powder you soak in and if its a bad stain I leave for 24 hours. I have used the normal Vanish and stain removers they seem to be useless. Make sure you get the one thats made in Australia, my mum used to use it when I was a baby so its been around for a while!

I have been using these Organic Care products for a while and they are great. I dont think many people have discovered them yet!! I use the shampoo, conditioner and body wash for myself and my 2 year old. Great price, good for the environment and the shampoo doesnt dry my hair out, so I couldnt be happier. You can buy in Carrefour.

I brought a rear facing seat from carseat.se and had it sent here. It was all very easy, the man who runs it is lovely and very helpful and it ended up costing the same as buying a car from Dubai! I have a britax and it goes up to 25kg. I think people worry about how a child wouldnt like to be rear facing when they are older, but it is not a problem for us my daughter is happy and very comfortable. We also have a Maxi Cosi forward facing in my husbands car and my daughter doesnt worry about switching between. She actually seems to prefer my seat, even though her legs have to be slightly bent against the back seat and now when she sits in the Maxi Cosi she always crosses her legs for more comfort!! The only con is that they are harder to install so you cant really swap easily between cars. It will take you around 5-8 mins to install. Thats why we have a second forward facing seat in my husbands car for any unexpected trips, so most of the time she will be rear facing and I'm ok with that! Would really reccommend carseat.se if anyone is thinking about rear facing and cant source from the UK.

Sounds like you have been busy so what about a relaxing morning tea or lunch somewhere nice? Al Qasr has the nice coffee place on the main level and the view out on the balcony is amazing. You can always have a walk around the hotel if its not too hot. Or lunch at Jumeirah Beach Hotel??

My daughter had bad reflux and she never slept in her pram....my husband and I still look at babies sleeping in push chairs and feel envious and she is now 27 months!! She did love sleeping in the car seat but would scream for around 15/20 mins in the car before she would sleep!! So if I was going out to a mall I would drive around until she slept and then lift the seat out onto the pram base and she would usually stay asleep. My daughter never really slept in her cot until we got the medication right so I either had her sleeping upright on my shoulder or had her out in the car when she was little. If I was just out for a walk with her in the pram I would also take the baby carrier (we had baby bjorn) so if she cried I would take her out and pop her in the carrier, then she would be happy for another 15 mins or so and after that I just carried her if she cried. She loved being carried stomach down on my husbands arm when she was little, the pressure on her stomach seemed to help. If went went out for a meal and she cried we would just take turns at taking her out while the other one ate, dont stop going out it, will pass and you will find new ways to deal with it. We found we need to get out of the house and be normal again even if we had to deal with a screaming baby sometimes. A little crying never hurt any baby so dont worry - its just a matter if figuring out what she likes, reflux babies have very specific needs. They are more more work but once you figure them out you can get out of the house no problem. I hope that helps a little bit, I think its just a matter if taking tips from everyone and seeing what best suits your daughter thats what we did. Good luck and just remember it doesnt last forever!

We have always had a big problem with this in our household! My daughter is 27 month now and until recently I just held her mouth open and brushed while she yelled and fought with me! A few weeks ago I brought a book by Dr Sears and it had a section on tooth brushing and it suggested that you tell the toddler about the "Sugar Bugs" on their teeth and tell them you have to brush them off. I was really not sure if it would work, my daughter is rather stubborn but it does!! She is so much better and she seems to love the sugar bug story. She has a great imagination and I was a bit worried that she would think that "bugs" are in her mouth, but she doesnt take it that way at all and loves checking her teeth afterward to make sure all the bugs are gone!! Good luck

It has moved to Knowledge Village now, it did used to be in Media City I went to the wrong place a few weeks ago! Yes it is in Block 8 (the same block as Welcare). Sorry hard to explain, but if you come in to Knowledge Village off Al Soufoh Rd you will come to the main KV round-a-bout. Block 8 is the first set of buildings on your right side. You could either park out on the main road or as I did go behind the building there is a huge sand carpark. There are usually security guys standing past the round-a-bout they pointed me in the right direction if you get lost!

My daughter has just turned 2 and I am putting her in for 3 days a week in Sept. It will be a nice break for her and me and I think 3 days is a nice start as an intro to nursery! We live in Motor City and I have been looking since earlier in the year and have had my name on a few waitlists. As far as I know Building Blocks, Step by Step and Jebel Ali Polo Club are all almost full/completely full for September? So I suggest you give them a call asap to check if you can get her in! They seems to allocate most of the places in May for Sept start. Call around a few and have a look because I needed to look at a few before I found one I liked! Good luck with everything!

We got a great helmet from Wolfies bike shop on SZR. They were good and helped us to find one that fit well. My daughter is 2 now and she will always have to wear a helmet when she is on a proper bike! We take her out on the back of our bikes and she knows no helmet no ride! Most kids dont wear them here but I think it is really important and it is better to get used to wearing a helmet in their early years. I think the most important time to wear one is when they start on their own two wheeler bike. I think scooters and 3 wheelers are ok with out helmets when they are little and not moving fast. Good Luck! http://www.wbs.ae/

You can purchase additional miles to top up your account if that helps? It is US$50 per 2000 miles so its good if you are only a little bit short of a trip. I just had some miles expiring but I didnt have enough to get a trip to Europe so I was happy to realise they wouldnt be wasted!!! For me it was only a couple of hundred dirham still much cheaper that paying full fare and letting the points go to waste.

Hi Dubaicat I had the same dilemma when switching my daughter up to the next level car seat. In the end I ordered a rearfacing seat from Sweden (off the website you mention below) and even with shipping it worked out the same price and buying a forward facing here in Dubai. My daughter is 21 months and she is happy in the seat with a mirror, in fact she loves looking at herself and having conversations when she get in these days!! I ordered the Britax which I am really happy with as they are ok in mid-sized cars upwards. If you have any questions email Hakan at carseat.org he is great and answered all mine when I was wondering which seat to choose. The tether straps are a bit fiddly to begin with but once you get it installed once it makes the seat rock solid. We also have a Maxi Cosi forward facing seat (it was a hand-me-down in great condition) as back up that we use for travelling. I decided it was a bit much to do all those tether straps if you are just hopping in a taxi from the airport on holiday. I figured that I am happy if she is rear facing 99% if time especially here in Dubai. Re the legs - my daughter is short so we dont have a problem now but yes the legs just bend up as they grow. But if you think about it sitting crossed legged when you are a child is more comfortable that having your legs just dangling down, espeically if you are on a long car journey. Good luck with your decision! PS - my daughter happily goes from forward facing back to rear facing after our holidays. She just knows that in Dubai thats how she sits!
