Hello - if noone else comes back with a reply, call DUCTAC @ MoE, as they do proper pottery classes (on my list of things to join this year!) with proper clay which required firing. I'm sure they'd either sell you some or tell you where they get theirs.

Ophelia - sadly I not sure you will be able to get it working as it's blocked on devices purchased here... if you go out of the country I would do a complete reset and reinstall the software and you might be ok, that is if you have an account that's not UAE based... worth a try. Failing that, you can still use whatsapp for free messaging. Pomegranate - if you go into your settings, you should be able to simply turn the facetime back on. I had this issue (mine's a UK bought iPhone), but when coming back into the UAE and connecting it turned it off. Since I turned it back on, it's been fine, and I facetime and imessage all the time, both with people here and abroad.

I feel your pain! But, as you have a dell, try the following off the Dell website (it has worked brilliantly for me in the past): All Dell computers ship with a utility partition on the hard drive that contains the Dell Diagnostic Utility: Restart the computer. (1) As the computer boots, press <F12> when the Dell Screen appears. (2) When the Boot menu appears, highlight the Boot to Utility Partition option, or the Diagnostics option and then press <Enter> to start the 32-bit Dell Diagnostics. (3) Press the <Tab> key to highlight Test System Press <Enter> to continue to 32-bit Diagnostics. There's more things to help on their website here: http://support.dell.com/support/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs which I know is of no use if you can't connect, but save them for next time - good luck!!

You should be able to do this, [u'>if a restore point has previously been made[/u'>. Do you know if you have your laptop set to automatically do this for you (or have you done a manual one?), or have you done (yes, I know having done this AFTER the event!) backed up to an external hard drive in the past? ETA what system are you running / do you have any inbuilt sytem help i.e. Dell laptops have reasonable analytical stuff... <em>edited by pinks on 20/12/2011</em>

I've been sponsoring for many years through Plan International - I discovered them when they were the Daily Telegraph's charity of the year ages ago, and at that point (not sure if the same is true now) they were the only non-religeous organisation doing so. They were set up after the Spanish Civil War. They are UK based but work internationally. You can choose which area you'd like to support, or leave it up to them - I originally did this and ended up with a little girl in India. After a few years she was too old to sponsor so I now have another little girl, this time in Tibet. The updates and letters are fabulous, and they are incredibly transparent with their finances. http://plan-international.org/

Good luck Rach28 - just wanted to say don't get too stressed out about getting the results back quickly - I had my breast MRI done at Allied Diagnostics earlier this year and it took a good two weeks for them to be ready to collect - don't let it ruin your Christmas. Mine also came back saying it looked nasty, but both a needle biopsy with the breast radiologist, Dr Alex @ City and then lumpectomy proved otherwise. Both Drs told me that MRIs for breasts are often not that accurate. In case you don't have one you REALLY like, Dr Houriya Kazim (specialist breast surgeon - upstairs at the Well Woman Clinic) is fabulous!

Which country are you trying to book the flights from? I book my Mum on BA from Heathrow (did it again last month), and when booking online it does ask if the credit card holder is travelling (I click 'no'), and we've never had any problems.

The UK government's rules (generally strictest I've come across!) say: Liquids include: - all drinks, including water, soup and syrups - cosmetics and toiletries, including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lipsticks - sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants - pastes, including toothpaste - gels, including hair and shower gel - contact lens solution - any other solutions and items of similar consistency If you need certain liquids during the flight, you can take them into the cabin in limited quantities as follows: - containers must hold no more than 100ml - containers must be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm - contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed - the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top - each passenger can carry only one of these bags - the bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point Containers larger than 100ml (excluding essential medicines) will not be allowed through the security point even if they are only part full.

Coincidentally, I contacted a friend over night (who has now left Dubai), as I need someone to look at my knees again. Their teenage daughter was treated for a nasty knee injury last year by Dr Vanderschmidt at the American Hospital. They were incredibly happy with him - both the surgery and the aftercare. She said you will probably need a referral from a GP to see him.

When I've done this in the past, I've done enough food by volume (as obviously it depends if you serving tiny 'pop in the mouth' canapes or ones that take 2 bites) so that each person would get the same amount of food as if they were sitting down to a main course, and depending on if there are some men coming that you know will descend on your table like a locust, you can add a little more! Crisps and nuts are wonderful fillers, and don't put everything out at once, then you can in effect pace your guests so that not everything disappears in the first hour. HTH. <em>edited by pinks on 12/12/2011</em>

I am very picky, I only accept people who can assist me with my career, this is a career network and not a friends one. So you'd accept strangers but stick to people in the industry relevant to you? I would do, yep, so long as they look ok :) Presumably as long as they have actually added a personal message saying why they want to connect, and not just indicated that they 'know' you?

Very easy at the moment, which is almost a shame, but I think their location on the 'other side' of the creek will mean they are not as full as they would be in new Dubai. We had reservations for 8pm but were the first there, however the place filled up fairly quickly after that. Book and enjoy!

Definitely! Since I've been in the ME I've has some very spurious requests, especially as I work for a military/government organisation, and hence I get weekly requests from people who want a job in the industry... I have a basic rule of only accepting people I know, or are connected through my connections. I suppose it depends what you are using LinkedIn for...

Just wanted to add my 'wow' for Table 9 too. We went on Thursday evening and shared six 'starters' between three of us, had one main and one dessert each. Taste, ingredients and service second to none. All the staff were superb (same excellent standard of Verre), and were so friendly and welcoming that I would have no hesitation in going there on my own - you wouldn't feel lonely or out of place at all. One of the highlights for me was being able to have (generous) half glasses of wine with the different courses - the sommelier suggested this, and even when DH and I wanted a whole glass with our main course, we got two different half glasses each to allow us to try different wines. After our meal we were invited into the kitchen to meet Nick and have a chat - how many chefs would be prepared to do that? They also have a chef's table, and I asked him about the cost/menu (in the UK it's often prohibitively expensive), to be told that he's be happy for just the two of us to book it (I think you could probably get 8 around it too), and that it would be of no more cost than the normal menu - well that's my birthday sorted then! We'll definitely be back soon to try the two tasting menus.

Hi Solnishko - my DH has a brand new one (still boxed and with receipt) from the US that he ordered (both he and his brother bought one for their father's birthday without speaking to each other...) which is unlocked. They are happy to sell either of them at cost price (birthday not for a couple of weeks!) - 3,500 for a 32GB and 4,300 for a 64GB. Both factory unlocked. If you're interested, email me at sallywingate at hot mail dot com (no spaces...)

Its a myth that people who are overweight spend all their time scoffing junk/fast food. It was something I never touched. I dont go along with it being down to ignorance of nutrition or lack of motivation either. Some of the overweight people I knew, inculding myself, knew as much about nutrition as a nutritionist does. MY problem arose from eating large quantites of very healthy food. It was never about the quality of what was going in my gob. It was always the quantity. As for lack of motivation - I think its more pertinent to find out what is causing the apparent lack of motivation. People are overweight for a whole host of reasons. Stereotyping doesnt help. I completely agree - for me it was portion size too, never touched fried or 'junk' food. Learned to reduce what I was eating and spread it over 5 meals rather than 3, plus the support that motivated me to keep going! Lack of nutritional knowledge doesn't just mean not knowing what to put in your mouth (or not), but also what quantities of all the macro and micro nutrients your individual body needs - we're all different. <em>edited by pinks on 30/11/2011</em>

I'm currently studying obesity (OU course), and it's currently reinforcing my previously held theories that it's predominantly ignorance of nutrition and lack of motivation. I've come across many people who don't know what good nutrition is, and don't know the difference between energy dense foods and the alternatives. With motivation, I think most people know that to be in what's called an "energy negative state", i.e. losing weight, you very simply have to put less energy into your body than you are expending. I'll get shot down for saying this (but as someone who lost 15kg since being in Dubai and kept it off for 2 years I feel I can!) but f you REALLY want to lose weight then you can, but you do need education and lots and lots of support.

Hi Eden - my DH has a brand new one (still boxed and with receipt) from the US that he ordered (both he and his brother bought one for their father's bithday without speaking to each other...) which is unlocked. We're from the UK too, so they do work in any country. I think it's 64GB, and can ask price if you're interested. To get a micro sim, you just ask your provider, they'll give you one then and there (for AED 25), and your number gets swapped over to this sim within an hour or two. <em>edited by pinks on 30/11/2011</em>

Don't you need your residency visa BEFORE you can get your ID card? As soon as HR starts your residency application, don't worry about when your visit visa runs out, as it won't matter as you're in the system as 'being processed'.

I would talk to Dr Houriya Kazim - she's a specialist breast surgeon (I've been under her care for a year and she and her team are amazing) who set up the Well Woman Clinic, where she's based. She also works with her (female) cousin, Dr Buthainah Al Shunnar, who is a plastic surgeon for breast reconstruction. I personally would want a woman to do my breasts, as only they can really know want you want and how you feel! http://www.wellwomanclinic.ae/team_kazim.html

Burj Al Arab: Taxi to Al Qasr (even going up the drive way has impressed some of my not-easily-impressed colleagues), then drinks on the terrace, dinner downstairs at Al Hambra (outside), then take an abra round to Mina Salam (just tel them you have a booking at one of the restaurants there) and have a final drink at Bari Bar. Burj Khalifa: Taxi to Armani hotel (equally impressive on arrival), then dinner at the Japanese downstairs - they have a huge outside terrace, so depending on whether you want to eat in or out - then drinks outside which have good views of the fountains, and quite often you feel like you're the only people there as it's so spread out.

http://www.dgfc.ae/ Dubai Fertility Clinic (recommended to us by the leading fertility clinic in London). Give them a call and they'll be able to give you up to date guides to prices. An 'initial' test for a man will be very quick and cheap, as it's simply a case of looking at a sample under a microscope.

If you want it really romantic, then why not (just the two of you!) book a table at Beach Bar & Grill at the One & Only - they will do you a table on the beach with full restaurant service. I've only ever eaten on the terrace, but the tables on the beach looked amazing. I don't think there's any beach where you could do this without either a lot of hassle, or attracting too much attention, however another thought is to do it combined with an overnight camp in the desert...

Hi.. despite living in Dubai for over 5 years, I am unable to find some good whole meal or bran bread with lesser calories, and higher nutrition.. These store (spinneys, CF, and Choitram) don't have any labels stating the nutrition values!! Choitram are very good if you email them asking for ingredients - I wanted to know about their bread ingredients recently (I was concerned about transfats given so many breads here have them in), and they replied straight away with a complete list.

I agree with redleaf - don't waste money paying someone to do it for you, as it's very easy on line. I have one property I rent out, and it's really worth completing your tax return online every year, as I almost always get a rebate, and have never ended up owing any tax.

Simple rule of thumb is buy the best you can afford at the time to avoid the 'Oh, I wish I'd..." scenario. I bought a Dell XPS 3 years ago (admittedly from the UK so you can customise it on purchase) and got the best screen and upgraded graphics card that was available, as well as as much RAM as the thing could take. Three years on, I'm still incredibly happy with it. I use it for work and pleasure - can run all Adobe Creative Suite products on it at the same time with no speed degredation, and watch TV and movies on it in the evening. Would buy the same again.

Please check the ingedients list of any 'shortening' - transfats are oftens labelled as such, and given how terrible they are (the UK Govt has agreeents in place with fast food manufacturers to put a ban in place within the next year) - they are often called 'hydrogenated' fat or oil. Please don't feed this knowingly to your family!

I used to work in the city, and one grey, wet morning, on pulling into Bank (one of the stops for the financial district where most of us alighted), the driver said "Have a good day - and can I say all you ladies are wearing particularly lovely blouses this morning" !
