We used to have a stretchy height extender that attached to the legs of the chair. Hard to describe. You could have it either way up which gave you a choice of heights. A brilliant invention. I'll try and find it on line and post a link so you can see.

There used to be a place in Sharjah or Ajman because when I worked in a centre for children with special needs we used to have their students on placement. Not sure if it was in English or Arabic. Not sure whether it would be recognised overseas though ?

JPS has much larger class sizes than Repton. Repton gained an 'Outstanding' rating in the recent round of inspections. Not sure about JPS. Both are good schools.

If I had kids at Gems DSO I'd be living in Silicon Oasis. It's a nice community, much like Arabian Ranches and in the winter you could walk/bike to school.

Who has a job to come to? Generally a married package is better than a single package. Your husband will not be able to sponsor you and your daughter if you are not married. Lots of complications if you are not married.

Hi I think all schools have Arabic and Arabic B. I think if your child has an Arab passport they have to do Arabic A. You may be able to opt out of this at special request but the policy is designed to promote the Arabic language. Children with a significant special need can app,y to opt out of Arabic altogether.

Is that the original Horizon (near Safa Park) or Horizon International? Is the 1500 for one child or for more? Repton did achieve outstanding in the recent round of inspections. How did the other schools fare? Have you done a tour of Repton to see how it feels to you?

Start up costs in Dubai are huge. You usually need to pay a years rent up front and for a 2 bedroom apartment you are probably looking at 85K minimum. Maybe you can find an employer who would provide accommodation. Childcare/School fees are expensive. I honestly don't think that it would be economically viable for a single mum of 2. Please do your research very carefully before you commit to anything.

I would have thought around £16000 pro rata at least.Check out job sites for similar admin jobs. I don't think so. That's more than a lot of teachers earn.

If your nearly 3 year old is 3 before the beginning of September (exact dates vary) then there are many schools where he/she could start in FS1 (Foundation stage 1), called Nursery in some schools. It can be hard to get 4 year olds in in FS2 as there are really only a few extra spaces that arise after FS1. It should be easier with more new schools opening but in the last few years it has been very hard to find places in Early Years. Most communities have FB pages which are used a lot for buying and selling stuff. Dubai wide there are a few FB pages like Second-hand Dubai or Buy it, sell it, swap it. edited by plum2 on 03/05/2015

I would take Greenfield Community off the list unless you are going to live in Greencom. The travel would be awful. You could also consider Repton as it is close to DSO. Uptown School in Mirdif would also be fairly close. Safa Community School would be just as close, if not closer, than Victory Heights. It is a new school and has the early secondary years so far. Not sure what years you are looking for. You could also consider living in Mirdif. There is Royal Dubai School there too - not sure if it has secondary. edited by plum2 on 29/04/2015

I wouldn't discount the Ranches just on traffic - it depends on timing !! If you leave before 7 it's not a problem and they are currently working on an extra exit lane to help relieve the traffic or you could do what I do and take a short cut around Global Village which gets you out of the Ranches with no traffic issues at all !! Going around by Global Village is an option which keeps you moving but you can't really call it a short cut! It's quite a lengthy detour!!!

Dubai British Foundation only does the Early Years so would require another move after a year (or maybe 2). Foremarke is apparently lovely with small classes but is quite a bit more expensive than most. Kings NAS is very new and still a bit of a building site. It is part of the Kings group. The original Kings is a good school so I am sure it will be good. Hartland doesn't even open until September so is something of an unknown although it looks good.

Bradenton Prep in Sports City is very close to you and I'm sure it follows an American Curriculum. I have a friend there with a son in grade 3 or 4 and she speaks very highly of the school. Worth investigating.

Presumably you are offered accommodation with your job. Think seriously about accepting the accommodation Emirates offer as you are likely to be better off that way. Once you opt out of Emirates accommodation you can never opt back in.

The newer schools are the ones to target. Safa Community School, Nordanglia, Kings Al Barsha and Hartland(due to open in Sept). I believe Repton may also have spaces in those year groups.
