As it's just for a term I doubt they'd give a visa.

Hi There are good quality ABA services available in Dubai but it is all user pays and can work out very expensive. With 3 other children, 2 of whom are secondary school age, you would need to be on an extremely good package to cover costs. Many secondary schools are close to 100K dhs a year now.

Hi Fuzz82 I'm sorry but I'm not in a position to take on any new clients at the moment. Where do you live and where does your child go to school? Then I can try and recommend some places for you to try. Thanks

As the previous poster said JESS has huge waiting lists. Repton definitely allow this. I think DESS do too. My advice would be to apply to schools ASAP!

Try and get your husband to find out where his office is. Anyway you should be able to find reasonable accommodation easily within a 45 min commute. No one spends 1 1/2 hours commuting unless they work in Abu Dhabi or travel to Dubai from Sharjah. Have you looked on school websites and checked out fees? You could easily get accommodation for 180k School fees could be 130+K Food costs are a bit more than Europe. The more imported foods you eat the higher the bill. Petrol is cheap. I pay 90 dhs to fill my car. DEWA (power and water) could be up to 1500 to 5K a month depending on apartment/villa and time of the year. Phone/internet/tv can be anywhere from 300 dhs a month up.

Mirdif is a slightly cheaper housing area as it is a bit further away from new Dubai I suppose. Some parts of it can also be under the flight path for planes coming in to land at Dubai airport so can be noisy, but people say you get used to it. You do get a lot more house for your money in Mirdif.

What sort of accommodation would you want? A villa or an apartment? Where would your husband be working? It is certainly doable with a reasonable lifestyle but you probably wouldn't be able to save anything much until you are working. 2 lots of secondary fees are a killer. Start up costs are quite high. Will your husbands employer give him a loan to cover the rent? This has to be paid up front typically in 2-4 cheques.

For primary education contact GEMS education as they were offering an 'on the job' training programme for teachers. They were a couple of British Universities offering a PGCE programme. I know of quite a few people who did it and got offered jobs in schools here. Sunderland Uni was one I think. For Nursery teaching you need to look at the CACHE qualifications. These are offered by EYES. Many nurseries also allow you to work while doing this training.

Do you mean to teach in a higher education facility? To teach in a school I believe you actually need a teaching qualification like a PGCE. For most teaching jobs in Dubai you need 2 years of teaching experience for your employer to be able to obtain a visa for you.

The closest schools to Media City would probably be Regent School in the Greens or Wellington International on Sheikh Zayed Rd (there are a lot of Wellington Schools!) Also Emirates International and Dubai British School in the Meadows.

I've been living there for a few months and really like it. It's nice and quiet (as long as you're not near the construction). It will be even better when the shopping centre is open later this year.

Up and Running on Al Wasl Rd would be good. I saw Graham an orthotist there who made me insoles. They helped hugely. Graham is no longer in Dubai but they will advise who best to see. Things I found helped: always wear supportive shoes (Birkenstocks are a life saver). Don't walk barefoot on hard marble floors. I stopped running until it got better then started gradually with my insoles. You can roll the bottom of your foot over a golf ball. Some people recommend Fit Flops. Basically any shoe that's not dead flat helps. Good luck. I know how horribly painful it is, especially first thing in the morning. I felt so old!!!

If she's interested she might be able to get a job in a nursery as an assistant. Some nurseries offer a work and study option so she could study and gain an early childhood cache qualification while working.

I do not agree about the wine. It's expensive here. Also you won't be able to buy wine until you have an alcohol license. You can't apply for that till you have your residency visa. I would suggest you bring your maximum allowance in. 4 litres or 6 bottles I think but they will tell you.

Will you be having an FS2/reception year class? If not there is really no need to introduce children to phonics with a formal system. This is covered in FS2 Just let them play!!! This is what they need.

Gems Winchester would not be one of the better known schools. It is cheaper for a reason. It has large classes and a mostly non-western student body. If you are looking for top quality education I would not recommend it. At the JAFZA end of town there are several schools. Dubai British School, Emirates International (may not be British Curriculum) and one other in the Lakes/Meadows area. Welling International on Sheikh Zayed Rd may be IB in the 6th form I think. For apartment living at that end of town there is the Marina, JLT and the Greens or TECOM.

It's just a long way out of town that's all. I'm in Arabian Ranches and it would be 30 mins from here. No idea what other facilities there would be around there at this point but I'm guessing not a lot. Where will you and/or your DH be working?

I've removed carpet from 2 rooms now. It is a horrible job ?. Both had v strong double sided tape in 2 rows round the edge. The carpet pulled up easy enough. I used Goo Gone and Dissolvit (both available from Ace hardware) to soak and remove the tape, then Jif on the residue. If I could've found someone to pay to do it I would have done.

They are supposed to be moving to the new site in Sept 2016 if the school is ready. They will be expanding to include FS1 and developing a secondary school. I think they will be increasing to 5 classes a year group.
