Lucky you, I love F1! One of the best ways to travel around Italy is to stay in an Agriturismo: http://www.agriturismo.it/en/ I'd say you focus in the North of Italy. Places such as Lake Garda, Verona, Padua and of course, Venice, are beautiful to visit. I'm Italian, currently living in Venice for some months, so give me a shout if you need help with the itinerary!

I just watched the movie about Paul Potts last night, as I am not British and don't have/watch TV, I had never heard about him before. I was very touched by the movie and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for some inspiration ;)

After some years in Dubai, we're looking for a change but we're not really sure where to go next. We're in our late 20's, have no kids (yet) and have already lived in South & North America, Europe and the Middle East. We love traveling and discovering new cultures as well as being outdoors. We thought about Singapore but it doesn't convince me 100%. Any ideas/inputs are welcome!

Have the doctors given any reason like endometriosis for your pain? I should be on the pill to manage mine but i need a break from the side effects (crying nutter 10days a month) my cramps are awful now but its just for a few days and i would prefer the pain to emotional stress. Most women are fine on the pill and its definitely worth a try if your pain is that bad. edited by mannikat on 02/04/2014 No, they didn't but my mother was diagnosed with endometriosis last year so I wouldn't be surprised if in the end that's what I have :(

I have flown Gulf air several times and as has been stated - you get what you pay for service wise, however, on one trip, Bahrain to Amman, there was a security problem, a young man panicked and decided he wanted to get off the plane mid flight and tried to open the rear door. The cabin staff handled the situation quickly and efficiently with minimum noise and comotion, the plane continued to its destination where federal police met the aircraft and took over. The cabin crew were to be congratulated for their response - obviously well trained for emergency procedures. Sometimes people just go mental, I had a similar story while cruising a couple of years ago a lady said she wanted to "go out for a walk" in the middle of the Atlantic ocean, she was disembarked on the next port. Glad the cabin crew was able to control the situation.

DH was stopped by a guy with also an "Italian" accent who asked if he could sell italian jewellery for him as he doesnt have a residency visa and his tourist visa ran out.... He said they would give him a commission of the sales if he would do so. That was at Marina Walk a few months ago. DH said no thanks. Will inform DH of the suit scam too... Wonder why they are always "italian"? edited by Appletiser on 04/06/2011 I'm curious too. Are they all really Italians? Or they are just using our nationality to sell? Although it'd be hard not to realize they are not Italians...

I cannot stand anymore the pain every month due to my period. I'm in my late 20's, no kids and no apparent sickness. I've done regular check ups and everything seems to be fine, still I get terrible pains every month, which force me to stay one day in bed. I've tried painkillers, cranberry juice, hot water bottle, yoga and many more. My doctor gave me the pill to cope with the pain but in the end it was worth as I ended up with hyper-pigmentation. My mom says the pain will only stop when I have a baby but in the meantime I'd like to solve the problem in an easier way ;) Looking for your input ladies!

Hi Anemona, What I would recommend is to get it done when you're returning from your next trip abroad. At arrivals, just before you get to Passport Control (by the elevator), there is a desk which is clearly marked for E-gate applications. There you present your passport / VISA and get the e-gate within a few minutes before using it immediately to proceed via passport control. Much quicker than going to the office in Business Bay office! Good luck :-0 They also asked me for a passport size picture when I had mine done!

A friend of mine that used to work in Dubai has his resident visa expiring soon, he kept his bank account (HSBC) open because he was unsure if he was going to come back to Dubai in the near future or not. Opening an account in his home country it's not the best option since he doesn't live there and yes, he might come back to Dubai, but he's not sure when would that be. The thing is that HSBC will be freezing his account soon unless he regularizes his situation. He's studying different options, but he asked me to post here in order to get some feedback from some of you that might have been in the same situation. Looking forward to your replies. Thanks!

But absconding is not a criminal violation, only a labor one. The police will not get involved in this. If indeed having a live-out is illegal, then the OP would only incriminate herself by going to the police... But Maids do not fall under the labour law. What? Of course they fall under labour law. No, they don't. I'm not impressed then. There are ILO's conventions that the UAE have ratified in regards to domestic workers.

How does the OP know so much about who lives above her ? Well, if you live in this world, it's not difficult to know your neighbors and then there's always the owner of the apartment that knows who lives in the building.

Call the police. I went through a similar problem and eventually had to call them as they wouldn't listen to me, security or the building manager how can you call the police if someone is walking in their own house with shoes on? it's annoying and inconsiderate but i am pretty sure it's not illegal.... Is it just shoes though? Perhaps OP needs to clarify It's shoes, music, phone conversation, etc, etc I feel like I live with them. But if someone had complain to me about the same, I would have, at least, taken my shoes off and put the music at a normal level. The problem is that there are 3 people, the father, the son and the girlfriend of the son, and they are the ones that are making noise. The father was very nice and lower the TV from day one. I am not used to deal with ill-educated, selfish and disrespectful people.

Hi, Where in Tuscany you want to go? Florence, I guess. If that's the case then you can easily get a train from Rome to Florence, if you travel with the fastest trains you can be there in 1 hour and 30' for 45 euros, more or less. Then from Florence to Venice, just take another train, for around 2hs for 4o sth euros too. Mind you, the trains run with delays most of the times, so make sure you leave plenty of time in case you have a plane connection. In this website: http://www.trenitalia.com/ you can check the times, prices and even buy the tickets online. edited by pmd on 19/07/2013

Been veggie for 20 years & I only eat free range eggs - but sourcing a free range milk is difficult in UAE. There is a "bio milk" available in Spinneys/organic cafe with a happy looking cow on the front, but not sure if it is a true reflection! Is there free range milk available anywhere? [b'>(I believe that the energy transmitted from happy hens and cows feeds through to their produce, and that negative energy from unhappy caged hens/cows does too) - sounds a bit hippy but it's not good eating something that has had a life of misery![/b'> ETA i don't buy leather either or go to zoos unless it is Al Ain as they get to walk around! edited by Tattie Bogle on 18/07/2013 I was reading this website yesterday about how all that free range thing might be a myth: http://www.humanemyth.org/ I've been vegetarian for 15 years and I'm currently on a slow, but steady, transition to veganism. I started to watch Earthlings but couldn't finish it. It makes me too sad. So if we can't believe what the packaging is saying how would we ever know what we eat came from well treated animals? Living in the UAE also makes it so much harder since we don't have a local farmer's market (that I know of) where we can buy local produce. I guess by investigating the farm via the internet where your eggs/dairy comes from could be a solution. Tattie Bogle, I feel the same way :) You are what you eat after all ;) There are plenty of local farmer's market in Dubai nowadays and also the people from Greenhearts Organic Farms are doing an excellent job sourcing local produce that they grow. Investigating the farm through the internet, especially regarding eggs, might not be the best solution, as they can tell you whatever they want in their website that it might not be true if you could actually see the farm. It's very hard, so I opted for stop eating eggs and cut down on diaries by 80% But if we stop and think about where all the food we eat come from, maybe we would all stop eating.

Hi pmd, Just left Dubai 10 days ago for good - and I'm now living in a charming little village 40 minutes outside of Venice :) I was in Dubai for almost 10 years. All I can tell you is to look forward to the fresh food (unbelievably reasonably priced after Dubai), cars that actually stop at zebra crossings, the ice cream (yum!!), and a ton of choices when it comes to finding somewhere to live. And hey, Venice is not exactly a horrible place - just ignore the tourists :) Good luck! Whereabouts do you live? I used to live in Treviso before coming here and loved it.

I was between Anantara and Velassaru also last year when we visited Maldives. I went to Velassaru in the end and LOVED it, I'd go back anytime. We got a very good rate through Agoda.com and after reading some of the reviews in tripadvisor about Anantara, I was happy we didn't go. I think Anantara is more family oriented than Velassaru and for a couple we were happy not to see children around :) You mentioned somewhere that you have a baby, no? I think it won't be a problem to take it to Velassaru, the staff was excellent and it really felt like a 5 stars resort.

Take My Junk....or try Cash Converters as others have suggested on here. Have you posted on Dubizzle? Maybe put up a sign in your building? Let your colleagues/friends know? Exactly.. What I have done in the past for our office is: 1). Dubizzle 2). What doesn't go on dubizzle; will go with Cash converters 3). Old furniture is taken by Takemyjunkuae 4). Let a cleaner/Gardner/security guy take care of the stuff remaining. They either sell it, or know people who can take them. Our security guard took the reception desk and few chairs, and was happy.. I am not sure what he did with it.. The thing is that Cash Converters are not taking anything at the moment.

I'm wondering what to do in case we are unable to sell them as I don't think it will be worth to ship or storage them. :( Hi what type of sofa? and table do you have ? have you put them on classified on EW? It's a two seater brown leather sofa from Ikea, it looks like new. Yes, it's on the classifieds on EW. And the table I was able to sell it through Dubizzle.

AbbynChristina on EW has a 2 bed in JLT she is trying to rent without going through agents. If you search you'll find the thread :) Thanks for the recommendation TB... Fitnesschick I don't think my apartment would be suitable in terms of size or budget for you as you are looking specifically for a 1bedroom... the location and accessibility to metro is great at GreenLakesS3 (the tower that I own an apartment in)... but perhaps worth seeing if a 1bedroom is available there... all the best in your hunt! AbbynChristina is your apartment furnished? We're leaving the country and selling some of our furniture that's ideal for a Green Lakes building, especially the curtains! Let me know!
