I was told by admissions centre if they're not already open to expect them to open end Sept/start October time, but to check website regularly in case they go live early (this was for metropole, new school), but I imagine it's the same for most of them.

Fitness first community clubs (like lakes and meadows) you can pay as you go for classes. Think it's about 50th per class. Perhaps give them a call to check spinning on and if falls in the payg option.

Hi ladies, has anyone taken their LO to splash pad at JBR? Is it worth the money? Anyone know opening times during Ramadan please?

Depending on the age of your 2 can I just suggest to start looking into schools etc too... We arrived in October with a nearly 3 year old and thought we had loads of time to sort a school place, but we were told by a number of schools and nurseries we had left it too late and have ended up with headaches and wait listed for a fs1 school place this year. Also when considering budget, all education for ex pats is private, so factor in school/nursery fees from age 3 or 4 if you're not getting anything for that in the package as it can be a shock to the system if you've not looked before coming out. There is also jumeirah village triangle and jumeirah park close by, but new areas so no bus routes and not on the metro. Need to drive to get the amenities, but bigger villas and if you can drop on a good deal nice community to live in. Good luck with the plans, and just shout if you need more info re schools etc, the ew ladies are fantastic source of info! X

Have you tried borders? They have lots of stationary type things, notebooks and the like. I know we have a few here in Dubai, so I hope they will have one in Abu Dhabi? X

Sarah Millerick runs baby and toddler classes at jumeirah islands club. Think they're Sunday mornings now. Give the club a call to check. Can't recommend her highly enough. She's a fab teacher and my 3 year old loved her classes. X

Hi ossiedog, If you look in the downstairs electrical box for ef1 and ef2 and turn them off it turns off the extractor fans in main and second bathroom upstairs. Not figured out the maids room yet. Good idea to get on the JVT page on fb though, there's loads of info about the villas there including paint codes, problem solving with ac and the like. Xx

fees for the new school are considerably higher than the other safa campus, 38000 dh p/year for fs1, and thats the discounted rate! fyi, they are holding a meet and greet about the new school at arabian ranches golf club this weekend, 1st march 10-11 morning session and 1400-1500 for the afternoon session. edited by poddleprincess on 25/02/2014

Compared to some other schools, I think the 180 assessments for 70 places is tame. One other mum at the assessment day told me another school she had applied for had over 3000 "waitlisted" applications for 100 places. Surely on that scale its just right out fraud - no name of said school mentioned I might add! KDHA should put a cap on the number of waitlist places permitted for each year. It's just getting out of hand, and looks like a big money maker at the expense of us poor stressed out parents and our kids education chances on the line.

I am at the moment! I know its not personal, but so, so frustrating there are no words. Start from scratch now. Did you get wait list too? edited by poddleprincess on 24/02/2014

Finally a reply. Rejection. Put on wait list. Got to start from scratch now as we were told they had plenty of spaces when we applied and relied on that being enough. ******.

Afraid not. When I rang no one asked who I was or which student I was chasing for so who knows? Seems like typical Dubai red tape from my (somewhat limited) experience!

At least you've had some sort of decision. We're still hanging on for an answer either way. Managed to speak to someone this morning to chase up the decision as we were also told we would know by 23rd, who informed all of the admissions staff were in meetings going through the 180 applications for fs1 still, and some had been informed and others would have to wait until end of day today... 4 o'clock now. Still no news. Extremely frustrated with the whole administration at this school but hear nothing but good on the actual education side! Patiently fuming.

Hi all, is anyone else waiting for a decision from VH primary for fs1 place starting September? We were told at assessment day we would know by 23rd and still nothing. Are we one of a few or is the same for everyone patiently stressing at home!! Thanks.

Not second hand, but Gulf star autos in sharjah have been brilliant for new spares for our car. They seem to have everything, are a million times cheaper than anywhere else we've been in Dubai and have generic parts as well as branded so you get a choice. 5 mins drive into sharjah. Hope that helps x

Have you tried Arabian ranches nursery? Used to be jebel ali nursery, but it's right at the polo club so close to VH and motor city. Failing that, there are a number in Dubai investments park, I think chubby cheeks has openings recently went to an open day there? A bit further afield but some offer transport to if it's a problem. Happy hunting x

I think there is an outdoor pool at mushrif park near mirdif you can use for 20dh per adult? Have a look on the parks site. Have you had a look at jumeirah islands club? They give discounts for Nakheel community tenants (like JVT) but still steep for the one off visits.x

Similar thinking I reckon flydiver 11... not sure how to send a personal message on this thing yet, but give us a shout when you're back in Dubai and we'll let the LO's wear each other out instead of us!! Have a great break and new year x

Thanks guys, thought the nursery thing was the reason but didn't think it would be so many of them in this early, bit of a change from the UK, bit like Asti said, it's hard getting them in otherwise! Might have to alter the am park visit to pm to catch the half day nursery goers and fingers crossed I'll find a play mate for my LO soon, I'm sure she's sick of mummy pretending to be a scuba diver with a drinking straw by now!! Hi Alemania, we're currently in Tecom, but moving into JVT for the new year, so not far x edited by poddleprincess on 06/12/2013
