I delivered at American Hospital a few months ago and had a great experience. The labour room is very spacious (unlike the one at City Hospital, which felt a bit claustrophobic). I was lucky to be admitted on a quiet day and so had 2 midwives looking after me all day. They took great care at following my birth plan and I just felt very comfortable throughout (10 hours labour in total). After birth, the nurses were fantastic and were readily available whenever we needed them. Overall, I felt really spoilt and would definitely recommend AH!

They seem to have two kinds - sandals or flip flops. Which ones would you recommend?

Put your feet up, continue to drink lots of water (I was told 3 liters by my doctor). And put your feet in the water (pool, bath). edited by praia74 on 30/10/2012

I did when my baby was 8 weeks and it was very easy. He slept most of the time and loved the aircraft's white noise!

I have heard very good things about her. One of my friends delivered with her 18 months ago and she was extremely happy with the antenatal care as well as the delivery at City Hospital. I think she used to be the head of the obgyn department at American Hospital.

TanAmbassador, can I ask you another question? When you book a kiosk in the locations you mentioned below, do you need to have a Dubai trade license or can you book the space under a free zone license? TIA!

Thank you Wendyone. Very useful. Does anyone know of a good legal advisor or company that can help me out with this? I would also like to hear from people who have rented a kiosk in a mall or JBR / Marina walk. What license did you need to rent that space? TIA

NIP, I'm very sorry to hear your news. I have an aunt who is going through the same thing this week. Hopefully your mum's cancer was caught early. DH suggested that I look at this article when we found out about my aunt. http://bibleplus.org/health/rawfood.htm Prayers to your mum. P

Hi SunDevil, Thanks for the warning. It sounds like the driver was trying to make some extra cash for himself. I would call Aramex and complain about his behaviour. I didn't even know that we could pay for shipping costs online. Will try this next time and make sure I have the payment receipt for the driver.

I remember paying 1700 Dhs for a 3-bedroom flat - excluding paint. Maybe worth calling a couple of other places to get a competitive quote?

I agree Tip Top painters are very professional and tidy (they leave the place exactly as it was before they start). They repainted our entire flat last year and we were extremely happy with the result. We bought our own paint from Ace - they told us how much we needed to buy. Their number is 050 140 1374.

Interesting to see that Damac and other developers are advertising again on SZR. Something that hasn't happened since the recession. I'm also seeing real estate kiosks in malls which again had disappeared in the last couple of years. And in the last 6 months we were called by at least 3 real estate agents asking if we wanted to sell our property in the Marina.. Signs of things to come?

Hi Becky, I would definitely go for a second opinion. Why don't you try Dr Rolf at the American Hospital? My Dh had a scare with regards to moles when we first arrived in Dubai. He went to see a dermatologist at Dermacare and he was told that he had to have 6 to 10 moles removed! The doctor was very alarmist and was showing us a pile of other patients files who had done the same and ended up having skin cancer. I was quite shocked by his approach. My Dh then saw Dr Rolf (and another dermatologist back home) and they both said that it was not necessary to remove any moles. He gets checked every year and touch wood all is well and no moles removed. You may end up having to remove your birth mark but I say go for a second opinion and I hope it is nothing to worry about.

It's really easy. Make sure you have a proof of address in the UAE (residency in your passport should be OK). I don't remember filling out any forms. Just ask for the tax return desk before passport control at Heathrow.

Hi Redlesley, It is a much longer one. I think it ends with "I am Burj Khalifa". It has been written by the Emaar marketing people I believe. It is really lovely and illustrates what Burj Khalifa stands for. My visitor also liked it and wanted me to send it to her..

Hi there, For those of you who have visited Burj Khalifa, if you remember, there is a really nice writing on the wall as you go through the corridors at the bottom of the building, just before taking the elevator. The text is written in English and Arabic ; it introduces Burj Khalifa and what it symbolises to people of different nationalities. I really liked it and was wondering if anyone knew where I could find it (other than going back there). I tried googling it but did not get anything. Thx.

Zen yoga has a wonderful hatha yoga class on Sunday and Tuesday mornings. I started to feel the difference in my strength and flexibility a couple of months after joining. And generally I feel great after each class. Enjoy;)

I think Dubai is a good place to have a rental investment if you manage to find a good deal in a good quality development and your rent covers your mortgage. We have investments in Europe and it's a nightmare managing it from a distance.

I would recommend National Pest Control and Boeker. Have used them in the past and both are very good. Reliable, professional and helped me get rid of cockroaches, dust mites...good luck! edited by praia74 on 22/03/2011
