Fiona001 I think sometimes it is even harder to move back to a place you have lived before as it will never be the same - even if the place hasn't changed much - people move on etc and you are also in a different place in your life as kids grow up etc. I don't know how long you moved away for but I lived in Dubai for 4 years and then moved away for 7 years and then came back and it wasn't like coming back it was like going to somewhere completely new! Also my kids are no grown up and not now living here so it is completely different and much harder to make new friends.

so he can do that today? Any idea what paperwork he needs etc? She is happy about being cancelled so no worries about her actually leaving and needed to be escorted out of the country etc.

Long shot but I have a small package that I would like to get to my daughter in Perth and I was wondering if there was anyone heading that way that could post it? Otherwise how does anyone get post back to Oz - empost or a courier?

It was in the middle of the night and one of her kids woke up and saw the burglar! If you have sliding doors put broom handles or metal poles in to stop them from being slid open. The police came out straight away with dogs etc but he had scarpered as soon as the kid screamed, hopefully they will catch him. Just took cash.

This doesn't apply to maids but does apply to housewives ie I can work temporarily for someone as long as my husband (sponsor) gives me an NOC This was just in the news recently and I quote: "Under the UAE Labour Laws, holders of employment visa from other sponsors are not allowed to work part-time for any event unless permitted by the sponsor. Visit visa holders are also not allowed to work." If this does not pertain to maids, which jobs then?

I have another question for those of you just moved from perth if you don't mind! It is regarding phones - is it possible to get just a sim card for a Blackberry on a prepaid type basis? DD has to buy a new phone to take and she could get an unlocked blackberry or maybe an android (she wants access to whatsapp). Getting one on a prepaid basis would be better than her having to get a contract. Any advice on this would be appreciated please. Thanks. I have been trying to look at the Oz phone websites but it is all a bit confusing!

Hey Sarah Joy that transperth site is great isn't it! DD is student age but is actually going to be working at the Uni rather than studying - she will be a research asst so will be there 5 days a week 9-4 ish. The not driving thing is a bit of a pain as they need to make sure they are nearish a bus stop or train station to get to the Uni even if they live relatively close by

I am being really cheeky and butting in on your Perth thread - I wonder if anyone can help advise me - my daughter (aged 20) is about to head over there for a year. She is dong a years work placement at ECU in joondalup. There are 4 of them from her Uni in the Uk going and they are trying to find a house to rent. Some of the other girls are already there and looking around but they haven't found anything suitable yet and they are now wondering if it would be better to live in Perth and commute (by train as they don't drive) to ECU or whether to live in Joondalup and then travel to Perth for entertainment etc. Thanks for any advice for a bunch of youngsters!??

Thanks I hadn't heard of HTC will check them out. I am guessing most people own a blackberry or an iphone from the lack of answers to this question. Or maybe on of those really old nokia's that we all had originally :)

re babysitters - thanks Suze63 for the lovely girl description - my second daughter has just finished A levels - got great results this morning!! - and is coming back to Dubai in a weeks time til Xmas when she then goes off travelling on her gap year. She is aiming to do some work to save some money whilst she is here and I have a couple of temporary things lined up for her but she will also be looking for some babysitting work. We live in Jumeriah 3 so Jumeriah/Um Suqeim is more convenient but she could get a taxi further afield. She has been working as a lifeguard in the Uk so she has first aid training. If you want to get hold of me email cascoleman at gmail dot com.

I can't see the classes for the Beach Park Plaza on the FF website - are there lots of classes? Is this a normal club or a Platinum club? I am already a member of FF but usually go to the Oasis centre so just wondering if I can use this one instead as it is closer. Also wondering if they have any good deals as it is a new club as a friend was asking. Cheers.

When my kids were small and were fussy about what they ate I told them that the Tinned tuna I served up to them wasn't actually Tuna but the stuff that was like tuna. They were fine about eating it after that, it was only a few years later when we were at someone's house when they were served Tuna and asked if it was the stuff that was like Tuna that they cottoned on! Its now a family joke whenever the Tuna comes out.

it will cost you exactly what the deal says ( have had pics done in the studio on one of the other deals ) unless of course you love all the photos and want to choose more than one in which case it will cost you more!!

can i jump in on this thread and ask about mobile phones in OZ. My daughter is going to be going to Perth in Aug for the best part of a year as part of her degree from Bath Uni in the Uk. She will be going to Edith Cowan Uni to do research. i was just wondering what sort of plans they have for Blackberries as obviously I want to stay in contact easily with BBM etc. She also has to find accommodation etc which needs to be accessible to the Uni by public transport. A nice Ew'r on here already gave me some links and advice but I would be grateful for any other input which will help her in her Adventure!

hope you don't mind me jumping in on your thread but I need some Perth advice too! My daughter is going to Perth in Aug to do a years placement at the Edith Cowan University for her Psychology degree (she is studying at Bath Uni in the UK). There are 4 of them going and they have to find their own accommodation - any idea how to find something affordable? They have started looking on the web but everything seems to be unfurnished. It also needs to be somewhere where they can get public transport from to the University. Any advice welcomed!!
