Agree with LadyBee, completely. Had a good laugh at Lolacat's 'much love' comment but it seems to have vanished. I do think its a sign of the times when relatively new members post such threads and haven't been absolutely stripped to shreds and run squealing, tails firmly tucked, as it would have been in the past.

Bit of a banana to me, but she still manages to look elegant in almost everything. Love most of the outfits she puts together she has such poise. And the shoes don't bother me, how do we know she doesn't have a new pair for each day, its unlikely she has just one of it.

Were you around a few moons ago when the forum was used strictly as a forum and the page didn't move all day, sometimes for days at a time? Enjoyed that did you? I sure didn't. Heck I am willing to bet admin were despairingly thinking of inviting a few banned posters back. I think the stars, thumbs and few other changes have been introduced to re-ignite some activity on the board and we've been seeing that again for a bit now. Honestly its been nice as EW is my go-to site not only for the latest in Dubai which sometimes even the news sites are behind (eg the Ravi thread) but also just for some fun, banter, gossip and of course explosive TNTs, which are my favorite but have been missing a while. Sometimes it does get a bit tedious and silly but if it bothers you so much its probably the right time to take a break and step away from the keyboard yourself for a bit (probably just you and Nordique doing that though). :)

I think its sad for the child, but also reflective of some issues the school may be facing in getting certain parents to pay up, if these are the lengths they have to resort to.

She is going to regret this in a very few short years from now. As for the children turning into brats because of yes-maids, how are the maids expected to discipline? Everyone on here is happy enough to advocate BBB for asking for a night off on Fridays and raises, shock and horror wont cover it if they found out that somewhere in Dubai a maid said No - to an overindulged child!

The OP must have aged doubly fast since starting this thread and awaiting any actually helpful responses. Everyone has carried on merrily discussing their own angst at whatever ages they are stuck at. OP ask your MIL to join EW. She wont be able to keep up with the banter or figure out the star system, but she'll have a heck of a time flexing her thumbs.

for some info about something I need, the search results brought up a thread from way back last year, looking through it for the info I wanted I noticed several thumbs up had been posted on multiple posts within that thread all for one particular user name. None of the other posts in that thread had any thumbs up or down as you would expect in a defunct thread. Why would green thumbs up be added to threads that pre-existed years before the thumb feature? Isn't this a bit strange? We can help you Di@DXB, what was the info you needed :) Lol - cheeky

This is silly - maybe the OP is a 25 year old to whom a 60 year old seems ancient. What does it matter what someone else's perspective on age means and how they address it. Who knows IRL some of the aghast ones may look far older than their actual age, your lifestyle reflects your age, not the years you've lived.

How does the convoluted back story affect how your friend chooses to remember her mum? Where does culture come into play here? This has nothing to do with learning about someone else's customs and everything to do with being completely self absorbed. I do hope *something* was learned here, not expecting the world to revolve around only your traditions and no one elses.

Some parents do cheat. They cheat themselves and they cheat their children when they actively teach them to do everything they can to what they think is 'getting ahead'. They teach by example (doing it themselves) or by turning a blind eye when they witness their child displaying less than stellar behavior. It makes me wonder if I should talk more to my child about what to do when getting pushed out of a line than about waiting in one. But what to do? <em>edited by Redrec Tangle on 31/03/2014</em>

This was a proper lioness' den a while ago, posters ripped to shreds, others chased off to lick wounds (and nurse grudges). Oftentimes the OP would have long disappeared while the thread rages on days later. Now only mewing little kitties and a few de-clawed oldies are to be spotted.

I agree, I think the flight is at the bottom of the ocean, sadly. Its a huge airline, and cant be just stashed somewhere hiding for whatever reason. Also ringing phones, if still active, can be traced to whatever network is closest by, so unless there is some new information that has been withheld, there is, effectively, no leads to follow up there as well. What if she did a bit of both? Send (spend) some to her family, and save the rest, if she continues to be with you for a while, the small amounts squirrelled away is bound to grow into a sizeable amount slowly but steadily.

Why did you ask on here for our opinion if you are going to refute/deny/block out every opinion that puts you or your DH in a poor light? I dont think your initial post annoyed me half as much as your continuous failure in every post after, to take some responsibility for the situation you find yourself in now. You said it yourself, she is a GREAT maid, and you cannot fault her, therefore you must accept that you have to share most of the blame for this. Your statements are quite childish and petulant and remind me of my 6 year old in her stubborn phase! The ladies on here are usually spot on, dont get offended, read these posts and try to absorb something that will improve yourself, or you WILL end up maidless very soon. Theres many desperate, fair employers, not as many good maids, treat her well!!
