hello ladies, I am now shifted to Dubai near Jafliya. we have only one irani salon in my area and i dont like it. Plz tell me about good parlor where i can do many service in one package. i also want to do smoothening for my hair, do they do it here? I can't really recommend other services, as I haven't found my self a place "economical" and "hygienic" at same time. However,I can highly recommend "Beauty Plus Ladies Salon" in Satwa for hair smoothing or rebondng. They do all kind of hair treatments....... Prices are really lowest, they use very good branded products. Might be good idea if you bargain a bit with manager "Aliza".....or just check their monthly offer. sometimes offer prices come to as low as 300 Dhs for any length. edited by rose717 on 02/12/2014 Thanks Rose. Whereabouts in Satwa is this salon? Hi, Its near to Satwa bus station, near the Emarat and very close to Fida's. A quick google search will get you phone number and map of salon.

Only if he is handsome....smells nice and do it gently. I just realized, its actually great feeling (even in imagination) I actually love male massage therapists.....I usually love strong massage and many women therapists are "toooo soft" for me. I like it hard   Thanks Lolacat, I take it as compliment ??

Hi not sure about packages, but you're not too far from Pretty Lady on Mankhool. It's a very god salon with very good prices. Hth xWhite Orchid I used to be a loyal customer of Pretty Lady, until they recently began charging Jumeira1 prices lol! I found a good package at a salon nr my dentist on Bank Street called Beautiful Times, in the Habib Bank bldg. I did waxing n pedicure there, was v happy w hygiene, service, etc. Not only they have increased prices, also some of the hair products, which they are using in salon are "made in China",. what a ****.....higher price for sub standard products. edited by rose717 on 02/12/2014

I always used to use red nails on bank street in bur dubai..... 2 min walk from al fahidi metro station. They have deals on every month and though the salon is nothing fancy they do a good enough job. Have a look at this months offers on facebook. I tried this salon a couple of times, loved morrocan bath and massage was ok. Their nail service is not good, I hated how they do the pedicure. And above all, not taking care of hygiene. They use same filer, scrubber for many clients. Since the day I have seen this, I never returned. Although they have very competitive rates, its just not worth risking your health.

It seems to me that many people are downsizing - from villas to apartments, from nicer areas to cheaper areas, bigger villas to smaller villas. But maybe I'm wrong so, When your rent is due, will you move to a bigger place, a smaller place or stay in the same place? For now I am staying.....3 months already and didn't pay a penny to landlord due to dispute in rent committee. Lolz...I wish it to last forever  edited by rose717 on 01/12/2014 edited by rose717 on 01/12/2014

Thank you so much ladies this information has been very helpful ????. I am planning to open an e commerce website selling party supplies. I believe I can set up a virtual office from Ajman which seems to be the cheapest free zone. Whatever you chose to do, try doing business set up by your self. These set up companies are mostly rip off. Once you pass through establishing "set up", you will know a lot for next time. If you let others do initial set up, you will still need to go through similar process each year for license renewals/visas etc. Good luck to you!!!

Any recommendation for good hair saloon (not super expensive one) in Dubai and/or Shajah. It depends on what you want to do. I go to one salon for color/cuts and to an other for straightening etc. Its rare to find "master of all" salon.

I found some real Xmas trees in IKEA today, didn't check the prices though. May be try checking with them? In any case if you go to satwa, bargain with them. These days it seems, they double the price to see if you are rich enough to pay without asking for a discount.

I know its very personal thing but I am curious to know  If not in numbers....you can share the percentage only. In early years i use to save 50% of my income.....but these days I am lucky if I save even 25%. I consider savings as an expense, and spend money only after saving, so technically I am hand to mouth these days :quite:

Polly: At first, I called it "my fitness pest" because I am not technically inclined and it aggravated me. Within a week, it was second nature. Now, I rarely use it. May not be worth it to you, but I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to lose weight. Calories are the name of the game, and like suzy said, many people forget half of what they eat, nor know the caloric content. Sakhifa: Yes, in a few cases it leads to a fixation that would be considered mentally unhealthy or even an eating disorder. What are they calling it these days, Orthorexia? Basically, the food police. It's not the norm though, and for people worried about becoming obsessed, it's unlikely. This is directed at no one in particular: If you have the time to piddle around on facebook, EW, or read celeb gossip, you have the 5-10 minutes to waste on myfitnesspal. Promise. What you [b'>don't[/b'> have time for is 1. Being unhappy with the way you look. 2. Complaining to your friends or family. 3. Spending an hour on the internet researching conditions (i.e. thyroid) you probably DON'T have. Ask someone who truly has one. Some people can barely get out of bed. 4. Researching detoxes. You have a liver, that's what it does. Detoxes have a placebo effect if any. 5.Researching the miracle supplement you can take to do work for you. It won't. edited by Beebers on 16/10/2014 I felt you are a bit insensitive in this post. I started having weight issues right after I got married 3 years back. From Eu size 6 to size 14,16......I have hated my self for this. I knew what I was eating, I was using MFP , my food is full of nutrition and I know how much carb, protein or fiber I am eating. My husband and friends made fun of me saying "I eat healthy". When I used be to be on starving diet and will give up on carbs, I will shed a few killos immediately (that's normal water weight) but seriously for how long you can live without eating carbs? I don't workout properly, but I am a very active person and my work only involved around 5-6 Km walk and a lot of physical work too. Even if I was working out, nothing helped me. I went to see doc, I was told I have pcos, then insulin's resistance. Now n matter what I eat, a little of crabs, a little of salt is enough to literally "swell" me next morning. My eyes become puffy, my hands swell and I feel so bloated. I even check my thyroid....but it came negative. The story continued, I sometimes gave up and started eating whatever I could. Pizzas, pastas etc. BT then m busy and forget to eat some days so luckily my weight has never gone above certain number. I am still in over weight category. Now only 5 weeks back I was horrified to see my nails cracking, have some weird shape, my hair fall was to extreme (same as before), I have had mood swings forever, I feel depressed too but above all my work is important and I get up to work everyday, no matter what. I did some blood tests independetly, to my shock I have hypothoriod. Which those ***** Gp's couldn't diagnose. I knew there was something wrong with my body, by it took so long to find out, just because I don't LOOK sick. I am as good as always, no matter how bad I feel, I look fresh, happy and active BUT that does not exclude me from having such issues. It is written everywhere when you google, you might r might not have all the symptoms. To OP, if you are doing all the right things......it won't harm you doing some blood work to check your hormones. May be you have some underlying issue. Good luck!!!

I forgot to mention, I know many of big brands, they have either downsized or stopped their distribution to UAE within last 12 months or so. That also scared me, may be it is something to do with the financial analyst s they have....they probably could see this coming???

http://www.thenational.ae/business/personal-finance/sad-expats-priced-out-of-their-lives Thanks for sharing a good read. We are a group on small business owners, in our last meeting we were sharing our issues these days. Most of us are struggling like never before. My own business has gone down by 50% darastically in last 3 months. All the clients i meet, they all are complaining about same thing. Thank God I have had enough savings & options to downsize....but those who don't have, they will end up in debts. Funny enough, this year I fought my office landlord for not giving me enough notice, so he had already served notice for next renewal with increase of 20%. (Not notarized, not official, just by hand on a piece of paper, which I know is not olegal, also we are no more entitled for increase unless there is further price change by rera). My case against my home landlord is still in Rental committee to be heard. Good luck to me and all other going through same.....after living here for a decade....at least I don't see a hope. We can't go back home as things are worst there. I already regret my decision, had I put this much effort elsewhere, at least by now I will hold nationality, PR of that country. Here in UAE....once an expat, always an expat...

Is it only me or.................... Thats my favorite topic these days. Can't tell you how much ****** off I am. Seriously considering to move from Dubai....but when doing calculations, Dubai is still cheaper than many other countries. I only fear, what if they remove rent increase cap? What if they make visas from 2 years to year and we need to do renewals every year? This year end is full of surprises, let see what new year brings for us. Not very optimistic I am !!!!

Hello ladies I want to start my own business and have lots of ideas. I was just wondering who has their own business on here and what do you do? Also any tips on having a business in Dubai? You need to have really strong nerves, patience, backup money, knowledge of laws & if you are "all in one" entrepreneur, you need to be mentally prepared for tough time for 6-12 months. Dubai is kind of battle field for most of small businesses. Above all, ever changing corporates supporting government polices, and increasing number of your competitors is making business really tough. When I look around, specially some businesses on daily deal sites, I wonder how much more lower they will go....such sites have done a lot damage to business. To offer competitve prices, mostly businesses will deteriorate quality of service/products and how much lower they can go? For example, I can imagine offering a buffet of 100 dhs in 50 dhs, but how do I expect one buffet of 100 dhs in just 20 dhs and still expect same quality? Businesses are for profit, not a free entertainment or charity work....unless you can deal with all these things...you should not jump into business market. So many people lose money, in TRYING to do business.....they come with money to dubai, but leave under debt. Good luck !!!!

I don't have a lot to add but a few rants from a small business owner; Employement Visa costs are increased recently. RTA has increased fare of public tranport (we need to increase transportation allowance). -Rents are increased, both home and office. -Spending power of normal has decreased resulting in less business and less profit. -Unfortunately, we feel terrible for not being able to increase salaries of our staff as much. I feel really bad for them, how do they manage and things would have effected them same way. -Higher crime rate, in many areas you can't really walk as freely - people have become more ambitious, want to achieve goals at any cost regardless of ethics/morality. -Traffic has gone worst. -Groceries are more expensive. - Government is increasing charges/expenses more and more for small business. We are seriously thinking of moving to some other country, just deciding where too go next.

I went to Best time beauty salon, dodgy little salon near Rigga road, but couldn't be happier. I paid 299, they had an offer on at the time but my friend went recently and paid 399. Any hair length. My hair is curly and frizzy and with the Botox the frizz is gone and it's just nice and wavy, and easier to style! edited by Avdm159 on 21/11/2014 As far as I know (after googling/visiting different salons) it makes hair straight with natural volume??? One of my friend got it done from a salon in Jumeirah, paid around 2000 Dhs, her hair look stunning. I checked in you recommended salon, they are not using real botox (RG, DNA) :-( they are using something similar to keratin without formaldehyde. Anyway, I will wait for anyone else to give feed back now :(

Does anyone know of any good salons where I can do hair Botox at a reasonable price? I've done it before but the salon increased the price by almost 400aed!! Hi have you tried botox? How is the result? I am looking to do botox for my next treatment. How much did it cost You? And from where You got it done? I have been quoted 1000 Dhs including hair cut. And this is lowest I have found ? You hair are dead straight or what? I was told, it will leave volume in the hair. edited by rose717 on 21/11/2014

Update: I checked with labor and immigration both and found no solution,. Had to deposit money because my company file is blocked and I need to issue new visas. 3000 Dhs wasted. Its my first time to put anyone in blacklist a.k.a ban for life, I really feel sad for the lady who called for this by abusing me and giving a "****" about my requests of exit or new visa status change. I don't have high hopes even after assurance of immigration officer, who said that IF she is caught, we will call and my deposit will be refunded after I provide ticket for her. I don't trust but let's hope. Thank you everyone for your replies. EW is really great help for me.

Sorry, don't have solid advice, but have you tried contacting MOL (I am assuming thats where the decision was granted) and explaining your situation? They might be able to advise you on this or provide you with some document that will exempt you from having to pay anything to immigration. I am sure you are not the first to be faced with such a situation. Good luck. That's what I am thinking to do. Its energy draining process. I don't know why people don't like easy life for them and others.

@WG In case employee doesn't complete "limited contract" and resigns before completion, without paying compensation or without any justified reason, employer can give one year immigration ban. That mostly happens when employee or the employer file a complaint in labor office. Only then you can implement this ban. They normally do it at canellation time in immigration office. Its also applicable in "unlimited contract", if employee doesn't want to serve notice period or is fired on "breach of trust' basis. Again, it can be done only at ministry or labor. I wish there were some more penalties for employees. Had the previous employer put a ban on this b****, it could save me. edited by rose717 on 19/09/2014 edited by rose717 on 19/09/2014

Sorry to hear about your situation rose717. I don't know how far you are with the MOL complaint, but it really helps a lot if you keep it as simple as possible and provide as much evidence as you can of everything. Get it translated into Arabic too. If you have anything in writing about the advance, any salary rise etc take that with you. The notice period doesn't come into it for you or her if there is any probation period listed on her contract so don't waste your time on the notice period angle. She is financially responsible for paying back the advance though and you can push that with MOL and take it from her final salary - if you have proof you gave her an advance. If that's not enough to cover it then tell MOL you can't agree to cancel her. Then it goes into labour court. I hate jumpers too and also Free Zones for taking away the 6 month ban. I know everyone should have the ability to change jobs when they want, but NOT when the employer is stuck with all these recruitment and visa costs etc. It takes ages getting someone new in. WG, unfortunately or fortunately no contract was signed, as visa was still in processing. We have not done any medical etc yet. So MOL helpline says it is considered as unlimited contract and she is entitled to serve notice period. There is no salary due, she did all this mess after getting last month's salary. Off course I have been dealing with MOL before and I know they don't favor people complicating issues. I have evidences , msgs, whatsapp chat with her showing she is one asking for raise in salary because she is not happy and she has found an other job. I am not worried yet definitely looking forward to put immigration ban for one year, with that she won't be able to work even in free zone. Call me a mean person but they deserve it. she did same with old employer, I was not aware of that. I am sure legal advisor won't have any sympathies for her now. Let's see. I have learn my one more lesson. A piece of advice, don't give any benefits until they show interest in staying. I wish they have enough balls and gutss to be honest about it. Cheating/stealing is not much different than this. I feel more sad because I faced too much hassle to get her visa and almost helped her every time she asked. SOME people just don't deserve goodness. edited by rose717 on 19/09/2014

Hi all, i also have PCOS and insulin resistant ...on metformin for past couple of years but never lost weight because of that. I can totally relate that how hard and frustrating it can get to loose weight specially when TTC with a history of recurrent miscarriages. The doctor has given me a deadline to loose at least 12 kgs otherwise she says i will keep on miscarrying .. so for me its a do or die situation. 4.5 down and 7.5 to go. I have tried alot of times to loose but each time i failed because untill a month back i did not know i was insulin resistant and i was doing it all wrong.. but this time i am determined and motivated and i think it is doable the only thing is i have to work harder. Exercise alone never works for me i have to watch my diet and serious exercise 5 times a week. For insulin resistance i do low carb and low sugar foods, 1200 calories a day and eat after every 2 hours. It works for me. Have tried the soup diet too but its killing. Now since i am eating healthy i cant believe how unhealthy we eat all the time, without reading labels and watching calories. The only thing i have to overcome is that my DH is supper fit but he is a biggest foodie, i cook him all his favorite high cal food all the time which i can resist easily but on weekends he got to eat out but its always hard to resist when out.. lol.. can any one suggest healthy options when eating out ? or any names of restaurants who offer weight watcher menu..? ( i take salads and grill 5 days so some real food options please :) I think women suffering from this syndrome should have a support group which can keep us all motivated and updated. edited by mochas on 03/06/2014 Hi mochas, I have pcos and had irregular periods. I was on metaformin buuttttt I hated it. I met this wonderful ob/gyn who gave me two options: 1: be on metaformin for whole life and keep crying about this issue. 2: Eat healthy, stay active and lose weight. I opted for second one. I have been trying to eat healthy, almost everything (excluding bread, rice, potato). I m not super fit now but I feel great. My periods are regular. No mood swings due to metaformin. If I crave for something "unhealthy", I eat in very small quantity. So whenever you go out, try some Thai food less rice. Or seafood or eat whatever but limit the quantity. I feel super super energetic, not much but one stone down on scale. And yes, workout only won't help, if you don't stop eating unhealthy. Good luck.

I recently hired a philpino assistant, just a week before I was traveling overseas. This lady was begging for a job since she was over staying. I finished her visa and had handed over my phone and appointment book to her. After 3 weeks when I came back, she asked for a second salary advance ( in one month). Next day due to her mistake I found she has already found a job in "Free zone", because she will get ban of 6 months upon cancelation. She than sent an SMS, saying she doesn't want to continue. I asked her for resignation, which for some reason she didn't want to give. No notice period, no compensation. 3 days after that, I got a call from ministry of labor that she had filed a complaint against me. Good lord !! So about 10k dhs down the drain only after 28 days on job. And I yet have to sort out MOL complaint. By the way, she is saying she is unable to pay all the money she had taken as advance. Neither she will pay one month notice period compensation. If you find this person still searching for jobs, don't give any benefits until at least 6 months. There are so many greedy people jumping from one job to an others, have no ethics of leaving job on good terms. I so hate this ****** type of people.

I've been meaning to post this for ages! Just wanted to say the times I've been to Aliza at Beauty Plus Ladies in Satwa I've been so super chuffed with my hair! She takes more care than I've ever experienced in making sure the result will be awesome and it always is! I trust her judgement immensely and my hair has looked great since I've been going to her and has grown so much finally! I don't know who you are. You are not doing that business any favors. Owner is She's such a lovely lady, do her favor by deleting this forum. Appearantly it looks like your are advertising. If not, share your experience. That salon is already highly recommended.

Hi, I coloured my hair 5-6 weeks back, basically needed to get the whites covered. And now I want to rebond my hair, and a few saloons are saying its not possible, have to wait 6 months after coloring at least? And others are saying, to do hair botox etc and then proceed to rebonding after 2-3 months... Especially this pink lady deal for rebonding is only valid on virgin hair. Otherwise, it is 1000 aed or so for the treatment, how come they don't mention it on their deal? Only some professional can advise you to do rebounding or not to do.I find this pink lady deals very transparent in pricing. Did You speak to Aliza your self? May be your hair needs additional treatments during the process (although those treatments are optional) that's why its coming more expensive? You should not go ahead if many salons advised not to do the treatment. Why not to go for keratin or blow out instead?

Please suggest tried and tested good places for crystal keratin around jumeirah satwa area ....and also not too pricey ...did kerastraight at pastels 8 months back but wasn't too happy with the results, have also tried Brazilian but then went poker straight :( If its satwa, go to Beauty Plus salon. They do a great job. Be it straightening or perming or removing frizz only. Just explain what You need and You will not be disappointed. Prices are very reasonable too. You can google their details.

One more happy client of Aliza here. Tried and tested for hair services (rebonding & organic hair botox.) Excellent value for money. Always tranforms hair from ugly to gorgeous.Only down side is that staff is not as good. Better to get your hair done by her. BTW You can simply go for free consultation and check what's best for your hair type? P:s, I saw some blowout deal on groupon from same salon. Just in case You want to try. Good luck.

He admitted it all but told me its over and he wants to stay together, anyway, things haven't been great and now he's gone on a business/social trip for a week. My instinct or poossibly over imagination tells me she's gone with him but I've no way of knowing for sure short of actually turning up where he is....but with 3 kids at home this is not an option. Is there any way I can find out if she was on the same flight as him....? Do any of you know any way I can find this information out? At least then I'd know exactly where I stand instead of putting myself through **** like this. Appreciate your help and support as always. Thanks in advance If you know name of that woman, its not that difficult. I have called many times to different airlines including Emirates to confirm similar things.I would call and tell them that my sis/bro/friend was suppose to leave from xyz to this destination on abc flight and she/he left. Since than I haven't heard from her/him. Can you please check if they actually have traveled on this flight? And than provide them names. It always worked. At the other hand I Won't stay with a person if I doubt him this much. edited by rose717 on 10/05/2014

Hi RuthM, Thank You for sharing Your story. I can feel how painful it would have been. I have Rapid Cycling type. You are right about Dubai laws, I have had severe consequences of such depressive and aggressive phase few years back. I didn't harm anyone or anything, it was due to over dose of my medicine which landed me in hospital and doctors thought I tried killing my self. Thankfully I was already seeing this psychiatris so his report did the trick. It took couple of months to make authority understand difference between a criminal and a patient and retrieve my passport. Definitely Dubai is not a good place for anyone dealing with brain issues. I was told by Psychiatrist to have self control (which was a lame thing to even ask). Put me on some mood stabilizer and Neurontin which didn't work at all. I then tried keeping my self busy with things I liked I.e workout, movie etc. That worked well and I didn't have as many frequent mood swings. Now sometimes stress, sleeplessness and sometimes frustration triggers my depressive/aggressive mood. I can't go into details how torturing this condition is due to lack of energy and words. Unfortunately I have zero family support and no chance to go back to home country. At the same time I haven't come across a well qualified professional who could really help me. Needless to say I have already stopped seeing my Doc for now. Much sympathy to you Ruth for the experiences you describe with your father. Having a close family friend who has similar episodes I know that it is both heartbreaking and harrowing in equal measure - and that is viewing it from one remove. The family friend first exhibited these manic episodes here in Dubai in the mid- 90's - including the full Messianic complex in which he was convinced he was JC and went around telling everyone who would listen exactly that. Having been involved in trying to seek help for him I can say that the concerned doctors were excellent - particularly one who is very well known here. There was no condemnation but timely and appropriate intervention. I suppose I am only posting this to give the OP some hope that treatment is possible here - this was the mid 90's and I think that things have only improved since then. ( All the more so considering that this first appearance of a manic episode seems to have been triggered by lets call it a life style choice- sadly though it was only the beginning for him). ETA - sorry I quoted the wrong post. edited by Genie on 20/04/2014 Can You please give me details about that hospital/clinic/doc where he was treated. TBH talking and sharing about this illness in person is so embarrassing, even with educated people when they give me such weird looks. ?

What is a pin number? The "secret number" you tap in to an ATM or card machine. PIN stands for Personal Identification Number, so saying "PIN number" is actually redundant - you're saying "Personal Identification Number number" :) Yes I know what it is for an ATM, but why is it useful for the guy when she gave it to him over the phone? Isn't it a bank matter then and not a Du matter? Am I losing it? Why would anyone give any details over the phone to someone anyway? Oh...this is taxing. As I get it, OP is talking about pre paid recharge card. She's calling the secret number as PIN.
