@OP Its very common here. I also ask/consider about natioinality not because I don't like them. Knowing nationality helps me to have ideas how good they will be in their work. For example for my nails I prefer Filpoino technician (they are generally excellent in Mani/pedi). For waxing/threading I prefer Indian or Pakistani. And for hair I prefer British etc. Many of my clients also ask about my nationality and I always tell them. If I am confident about my work it should not matter to me. I am what I am. Take it or leave it. Just don't stress your self. Trust me there are good people too. Ignore negative ones and focus on growing your business. ?

Is there a place from where I can get a nice haircut for not more than 150 - 200 dhs? Or is that wishful thinking? Essential salon on al wasl rd. They have hair cut in 180 AED without blow dry.

Hi ladies, I have been working long hours and feel extremely exhausted right now. Thinking of giving my self treat with a spa package or a one day hotel stay with nice beach. Any recommend action where I can go? I have hardly one day to spend and limited budget. So not very expensive options please. TIA

Hi ladies!!! I was just wondering if anyone has had keratin hair treatment here in Dubai? If so, where, how much and was it good/has it been effective???!!! Many thanks! I prefer hair botox over keratin. I love how my hair feels after treatment and it lasts up to 3-4 months. I pay about 500 AED for my medium length hair. Forgot to mention I get it done from Beauty Plus Ladies salon located in satwa. edited by rose717 on 21/01/2014 what is hair botox? Its a hair repair treatment, kind of deep conditioning. They say its Organic and much better than keratin. Got it done twice so far and loved it both time.

Good afternoon, ladies, I hope that someone out there will be able to help me. I am tearing my hair out and have spent half the day in tears.... On the 1st of January, our new maid entered the country from the Philippines. I had payed an intermediary (a friend of a friend who is Phillipino and organises these things regularly in conjunction with Al Kasari travel) over 3000AED to pay for her visa and her flight. When my husbands PRC went to start the employment Visa process, he was told that she was on a TOURIST visa which is non transferable and that she would need to leave the country and renter with a work visa in place which could be organised very quickly. Now it gets complicated..... She can't go to Hatta as a Phillipino. The airlines will not take her as a transit passenger to Oman or Bahrain without a Visa (which we can't get while she's still in the country). Kish sounds like a dodgy run for a young single girl... The lady who started the process for us appears to be somewhat washing her hands of any responsibility for the mess... So, in desperation, we booked a flight back to the Phillipines, intending to get her back here on the work Visa 72 hours later. Then we found out that she needs labor permits from the Phillipines in order to leave the country again... So, I guess my questions are... 1 does any one know if we can get her in and out of Dubai WITHOUT going to the Phillipines?? Are we missing a trick somewhere. 2 is there any way we can just pay for the tourist visa to be transferred?? 3 exactly what paperwork would she need from the Phillipines to enable her to exit? Is it standard to be given permission to work abroad and how long could it take?? Does that have to be done in Manilla or can we start it here? 4. If you don't know the answers to the questions, is there an agency who could help get me out of this (very expensive and frustrating) mess? Thank you so much in advance, Charlie @Charlotteo123 I do visa processing my self and its not difficult at all. In immigration if you apply for visa they ask You if the person is inside the country, they charge some 600 AED additional for this. Than they will issue pink copy visa and with than she can travel to Oman or kish for exit re entry. She doesn't need to go through POEA or any other procedure because her emlpoyement is process ed from here. However if she would be on Philpinnes she need to get some paper work done. if you need more info call DNRD 8005111 . they are very helpful. Let me know if you need more details. P:s. Immigration can issue temprory visa which is pink copy valid for 60 days even if person is inside country on tourist visa. BUT after than visa cannot be stamped without exit re entry. She must exit to some other country for this. edited by rose717 on 21/01/2014

ladies ..who are you seeing for your IR ? I need a better doc , mine is downright discouraging !! I m not seeing any doc for right now. Just taking metaformin and trying to fix my diet habits. May be I should try natural way. I don't like playing with my systems and hormones specially ( I deeply doubt this pcos is because of bc pills I have been using) so let's flush our system first and than think of anything else.

Hi there stylex1, I'm not sure but I don't think so - I've never been tested for insulin resistance. thats the first my docs tested for - she said pcos and insulin resistance are the best of friends .i dont have the typical problems like lack of periods or acne but dealing with insulin resistance is bad enough ! I have PCOS and Insulin resistance. I also don't have any other symptoms but to make up for it, I gain weight by just thinking about carbs :-( I have been put on Metformin to help the insulin resistance and to assist me lose some weight. Unfortunately It has NO effect on me :-( I cut out carbs to almost nonexsistent in my diet and I exercise 4 times a week and NO weight comes off. It just congregates around my mid section. So despite unsuccessfully trying to conceive for the past 6 years I always look 8 months pregnant :-( I feel for you. I have both and also I have severe water retention if I consume anything saltish, canned food.I hate the fact that if I struggle hard and manage to shed a few pounds it comes back within a day of off the track food. I can't eat most of the things normal people can eat. Only need to munch on raw veggies and fruits with low sugar. I get frustrated now. I am on metaformin too but its not actually helping except giving me mood swings. I have active life style still....:-( I changed 2 gynae and both are weird. I don't wanna take any hormones, for now I wanna try natural way by controlling diet and workout. Let's see if it works. And hey you are not alone.

Lol. Am I the only one who was lucky enough to make it to many place. I wanted water taxi and it was fully booked. Didn't want to go to sandance thank God. We were at burj khalifa they had family side to view firework and it was such a shame. Thousands of people and only few toilette and no food stalls and no entry after 9:30 pm. We left immediately. Than the only place came to my mind was JBR beach. And we made it on time by metro. We enjoyed all three fire works from burj kbalifa and burj al Arab and Atlantis. It was amazing. Yes there were millions of people but metro was good choice. Happy new year everyone. edited by rose717 on 01/01/2014

I had never made complaints as an employer I avoid wasting time. I had my staff done that two times and both times they lost the case. It depends on how strong grounds and paper evidence You have. Do you prefer a certain nationality for a hairdresser If so Essentials on Al Wasl have Western hairdressers who are good Donna at Roots Barsha Heidi at Hairworks Ibn Battuta Thanks Sarah for recommendation. I couldnt get any appointment at Roots or Hairworks. So I went to Essentials Today. Tracey did my pixie cut. I am Asian and going from long to short was risky. Tracey was good and gave me cut. Its not AWESOME but FINE. Hope it settles in few days and I get used to it. Probably then I would enjoy it. BTW it was worth the price of 180 AED :-D Thanks all ladies.

Well, I dont find it useful. Even if you lose some inches it would be because of water loss through sweating. And You will gain it back. However for a quick weight loss but temporarily its good.

It means packing up my things & prepare to leave UAE. I am an entrepreneur & already told by local sponsor that his fee is going to be double. Am sure rents are gonna go higher as well & when it comes to clients they would have less spending power so less income means I would be able to make survival only. and its NOT worth it. I see Dubai in 2020 as a city for corporate companies and not the small businesses. DEWA prices are already entitled to increase in 2014. I dont know what is to celebrate in winning expo for people like us and I am NOT AT ALL whining. Its just the calculations which are obvious when everybody can foresee it. and YEA, BTW grocery prices are anyway up already. I dont mind people celebrating it but Ladies we have right to moan as well. To each his own. This place is anyway not a place for middle class/ Not any more. Welcome to expo 2020 BYE BYE to UAE.

To those of you who have seen it in the cinema already, do you think Catching Fire is worth watching on the big screen for all the effects, etc, or would it also be fine viewed at home on a normal tv? I didnt like Catching Fire. Is worst than part 1. Gravity was awesome and Capt.Philips was OK. I felt bad wasting my time and money to watch a stupid movie like Hunger Games. Fingers crossed for the Hobbit.

I'm not interested in buying just yet so I'm trying to cut my costs of renting if possible. Google Future star car rental. I took from them, they give best rates. Just discuss everything before hand.

hi WILD_CAT As per the labor law visa expenses are company's responsibility. however, if its mentioned in contract, You signed it & it is submitted in tasheel office.. in this case if You resign You should pay the cost. You can check Your contract submitted with labor office on this link http://mol.gov.ae/english/newIndex.aspx# check Print Labour card/ Labour Contract On the other hand, as a company owner I feel really sad how people first come to you seeking job and as soon as they find option they leave company without giving a thought how much company has spent on visa costs. Its normally around 7500-10000 AED cost for one person including everything + the hassles of getting it done. And morally its very bad of You, if you are leaving company without not only fulfilling contract you signed and also before 2 years. Visa costs are normally calculated for 2 years...thats its worth hiring a staff for 2 years at say cost of 10k AED. but if like You some people find better option the next month, You can leave without having a loss and company loses 10k AED for just committing mistake of hiring a greedy person( no hard feelings but I just hate it when people do this without thinking about other side ). If its a corporation, I think its bearable but if it a small company, its kind of cheating. How can You walk away for a better/other opportunity while causing loss for someone? anyway, You can get help by calling labor office on 800665. they are 24/7 available. edited by rose717 on 09/11/2013

hi Lily I have tried all of it and felt happiest with hair straightening. I need to go to salon every 6 months to get root touch up and rest all is perfect. I just shampoo and condition my hair and leave it to air dry. I also had curly hair. I did it from a salon in Satwa. Beauty Plus Ladies Salon. They are good in this and got loads of good reviews. I paid 500 for my hair. You first need to sort out your requirements. Plz bear in mind any of these treatments would require you to use specific shampoos and conditioners and if you do that You dont need to worry about side effects. :-) edited by rose717 on 24/10/2013

Something's happened I know it :( Accounts say that previous nights banking always shows up on the online statement the next day. It shows in statement only when (Your) bank makes entry and than it goes through clearing process & than amount is credited to your account. Hold on Your worries & enjoy weekend. Rose, Ive just read back and you started off by saying they were a couple whose marriage was not very happy but not very bad but as the topic has progressed they have become a couple who are good together. Is that actually the case or has some of whats written perhaps made your friend think of things shes not yet ready to think about so shes brushing over them for now? edited by DesertRose1958 on 30/09/2013 edited by DesertRose1958 on 30/09/2013 DR they were an average couple. Not all the lovey dovey stuff but yes not all the time unhappy. Just like any couple in sub continent. Off course , it would make difference what 40 women think about her situation. Sometime we think in a wrong way or just being negative. So I dont find harm in taking others opinion to just clear our mind.

Thank You all ladies at least I can advice her something better.... with all the opinions I feel its not a BIG Deal if her husband is asking her to wait for 5 years. She wants the kids probably because she is from a society where couples go for the kids immediately after marriage be the age late teens or early 20's (Sadly its true). And she is always questioned by her family members and friends why they dont have kids until now. Other than this conflict they are a happy couple MA. So she should wait a little more to keep the relationship healthy. Rose if you were to advise her on anything, i would suggest you advise her to find a good marriage counsellor who is unbiased and could help them talk and understand each other. I am wondering if she has asked you to put this info on expatwoman and ask for opinions here and get back to her with advice? Getting in the middle is not a good place to be in someone else's marriage, I could suggest you listen to uour friend for support and not advise Leave that to the professionals. Hi SueB....Thats what I am looking for. I was asking if there are some marriage counselling services in DXB? thats the only thing I can do because I dont find my self wise enough to suggest something. Hopefully this should help her.

Rancher, I have had keratin plenty of times and also hair botox and to be honest never had hair fall. Probably it depends on products and than application. I googled before doing it first time and Igot to know that it product should not touch your scalp or you would get side effects. Normally my hair dressers leave upto 1-2 inches from roots and make sure it doesnt touch skin at all and I never had any issues.

TDB, I am not a mother neither married any more & I actually feel it shouldnt be a big issue. I personally wont take responsiblity alone if my husband is not willing. Raisin kids in ME is not a joke. I suggestedher to calm down for some time and don't just pressurize him. If she cant wait for 5 years at least they can come to say 2-3 years & her fear is WHAT if he doesnt want kids after say 3 years also. And off course we cant guarantee everything in life.

Thank You all. To add a little more majorly her husband has been avoiding as he is not ready to take responsibility and tells her if she wants she can adopt a baby instead. or (its so sick to even imagine) get some sperm donation if shes so desperate but he does not want HIS OWN kids. Its my friend's 2nd marriage and her husband's first and I feel so bad for her if this relationship doesnt work. It will be a disaster for her also. They guy have not told her anything before getting married and he is just so cool with not wanting kids at all for whole life. He is more like a free bird travelling, not paying attention to saving, no long time goals no family strings etc. edited by rose717 on 29/09/2013
