Serves the LL right, too greedy! Lets hope that happens to a few more, so that the prices can come down! The villa next door to me is empty, being advertised for 90,000 more! (This is at the Villa) Our LL has served us notice so that she can also pretend she is moving in to get another 100,000 per year, well try too!

Council Tax Update - FYI from April 2013, the ctax is changing, it will not matter if a property is left empty or not, full ctax is payable on every property, the councillors are ending the ctax exemptions to raise more revenue

Thank you for all the positive responses. One more question, what do you all do about transport? Have you been able to find a company for long term rentals at a good price or do you leave an old car at home?

How often do you all go back? Do you pay for a phone connection/internet etc...all year round or do you have an arrangement where you just pay when your back? How about Council Tax/Community Fees, I'm assuming that if the place is empty then you do not need to pay this? How much does the security system and cameras cost?

My son complained of leg pain or a dead leg, he was only 4 at the time, this continued so took him to Dubai London clinic who referred us to an Ortho doc, mark somebody, who did x-rays & found he had Perthes disease, fluid on the joints! You could see it from the x-ray. This is something he should grow out of and is very common in boys, I'm sure he said 1 in 5! I think an Ortho doc and x-rays are the way to go.

The landlord has to give you 90 days notice in writing to amend any clause in the lease agreement such as rent increase. I understand all increases are based on the RERA calculator. They have to give you 12 months notice to try to evict you but I understand that they have to be moving in themselves or a male relative or they are selling. If they do move somebody else in they can be fined. Our landlord has just tried to put our rent up 3 weeks before our lease agreement expires, we just kept sending messages back telling them to refer to RERA, 90 days notice etc...... There is more info on better homes website about the law relating to 90 days & 12 months!

Repton has one paddling pool from nursery to year 2 and one other pool from year 3 up to 6th form! 2 x netball courts 2 or 3 tennis courts & a couple of indoor sports halls This is for over 2000 students! Last year there was 11 classes in year 3, my DS never got picked for any team, with only 1 or 2 teams for footy & rugby you don't have much chance? Only one house sport event per team, I don't think sport is that important at the school! You can opt for footy as an after school activity, but it is very expensive! We have now left Repton, lack of sport is one of the reasons why? The school is now going down to 10 classes per year, I guess because so many have left! There are many after school activities around Dubai so you won't be short of choice!

A couple that my DH worked with were arrested and deported for getting pregnant then getting married! Dates did not tally, they knew she was pregnant before they got married! Had been here for a few years, and now fighting to come back! He was a Brit, she was from an eastern European country! They had to agree to be deported so that they could register the birth and be given a passport!

Yes it is fairly hard to get a place at nursery and at school here in Dubai. The best thing is to ring around them all and find out who has places. There are waiting lists at most schools if not all, you need to get on the school waiting lists sooner rather than later.

There are other issues, such as school is so big so limited places on swim/footy squad, on average maybe 1 or 2 kids from each class will get a place, no plays, no christmas or halloween disco's etc. But is this enough to move schools.

Looking at reasons for the child's benefit. For example I think the school my sons attend is too big, not enough English kids, my eldest is the only western boy in his class and I worry about how he gets on socially. Didn't want to start a debate about which schools are good or bad. They all have their moments.

We have no grass either. We have gravel, sand, fake grass and rubber mats. Purchased a roll of fake grass from Dragon Mart and just put it directly onto the sand. It has not been fixed and it's fine.

Maybe you could ask your friend to get in contact? The contact details are useless on the website, there are two mobile phone numbers of which are always turned off and the one land line is an answer machine. I have been emailed them for months now as this refund is from Term 3 last year. The manager just comes up with lots and lots of excuses and hardly ever emails back. Although I did get a reply when I copied in 7 days.......... Anyway to a cut long story short, seems like they have all fell out with each other and some teachers have left and set up on their own. But I'm not interested in any of their internal problems, just want my refund.
