Good luck with the move. Maybe worth considering which school your kids will attend and then decide which area to live in? Lots of new areas and lots of new schools!

Hi I have a GS who is now 13. We got her as a puppy whilst living in the UK & brought her here around 8 years ago. She's long haired and has had no problems regarding the heat, although she is treated as a pet and lives inside & the AC is left on for her during the warmer weather. She has never had any skin problems, although during the summer she is shaved! When she was younger she was walked twice a day and off the lead, so she had the opportunity to run and get lots of exercise. All big dogs will need lots of exercise and attention especially when they are young. All pets are expensive. She is a very loyal dog who has been a big part of our family. The children came after she did and we have had no problems.

I've just had an IKEA installed and re used my integrated dishwasher! I had the same problem but I raised the dishwasher up so that I could still use my old dishwasher and use the IKEA door front. By adjusting the door to fit the dishwasher, I then used a dummy panel from IKEA at the bottom. Happy to take a photo of it & send it you!

Sorry to hear about your situation. We went through exactly the same thing a year ago, landlord wanted more money, we said No, she said get out then, we said No, she gave us 12 months notice on the pretence that she was moving in. We moved out & 2 weeks later new tenants moved in paying can extra 90,000 per year! We filed a case & after five hearings we lost and we have no idea why! The paperwork was lost and at the final hearing they closed the court and some officials came out, handed out paperwork to inform us we lost! Not willing to file another case or spend the time on it!

My kitchen is being taken out today, electrical sockets moved then a new floor is being layed this week before IKEA delivery & install my new kitchen! I'm buying built in appliances from Better Life! I also looked in Emax. Floor tiles are from Dragon Mart, still trying to find the wall tiles..... Where is Ceramic City? Opposite Deira or Mirdiff City Ctr? Also still getting quotes for worktop, as finding lots of quotes expensive? There is always a lot of movement within the school, people leaving and arriving last minute. There are lots of new schools opening up too, it may be worth just ringing around this week and getting in contact with as many schools as possible, to see who can offer you a place, or even add yourself on a few waiting lists. Places often come up very last minute, when somebody doesn't return after the summer. King's are opening up two new schools, not sure what years that are opening up though. Nord Anglia, also a new school opening in September. I think there's a full of the schools on this website. Good Luck!

I think you have to go to the court to receive your judgement. None of it makes sense and it doesn't seem to make any difference what the law states! The law states in our case that the landlord cannot rent the property out for 2 years after serving an eviction notice and can only evict a tenant if they themselves are moving in or selling etc....... New tenants moved in 2 weeks after we moved out.

So after 5 hearings, we lost! So I guess the laws do not make a difference. Landlords can give notice, and move new tenants in with no consequences. Well I wouldn't call the 5th hearing a hearing, there was a lot of shouting in the previous court case, then the court was closed and some officials brought out paperwork for all the people waiting for their cases to be heard. My DS was informed that he needed to come back to pick up paperwork. Guess what when he went back to RC, they couldn't find our paperwork! So we have no real idea what the outcome was other than the court officials telling us that the judge couldn't call it & that we both had a case! Whatever that means? edited by Rowellian on 06/03/2014

Blitz Star have just left my house, they have been here for 2 1/2 hours and they have put up 3 mirrors, 22 pictures and a set of shelves. This is the second time I have used them and would highly recommend. They measure everything and do not leave a mess.

Not sure when it is due to open but I've been told by DSO residents that it will be next to the pineapple building. You can always get parked at Spinneys at DSO. There is a forum for The Villa, search under google. Sorry can't remember web address. edited by Rowellian on 26/01/2014

Hi We were at AR for just under 3 years before moving to The Villa, and just started our 4th year here. Have no regrets. The community facilities have taken longer to get off the ground but we have no regrets about moving here, in fact recently purchased our own villa. You have to drive everywhere in Dubai anyway, so makes no difference that I drive to DSO for Spinneys rather than Motor City. Carrefour is also opening up at DSO, and it's only just down the road. Yes you can get more for your money that at AR. Lots of people out walking, running, on bikes etc... so very similar to AR in that respect. The only thing it lacks of community pools, but then lots of villas have their own pools. Or some people have joined Polo Club or similar.

4th Hearing lasted all of 2 minutes, judge asked if my DS wanted to review the latest documents from the LL or go for judgement. He decided judgement as just going around in circles and LL not backing down. So now it's in the judges hands to review both argument and case files. Date set for mid Feb. Will update you.

Go to the Rent Committee for advice and if necessary file a case. We filed a case against our LL, which is ongoing. It takes time. Our next hearing is next month. If the LL will not pay up the RC have the option of putting a travel ban on them, so they will not be able travel in and out of Dubai. It can take time to recoup costs but worth the effort. The RC also puts a notice in the Gulf News paper in Arabic naming and shaming these LL's. Please go to the RC and find our for yourself. He will have won if you don't do anything about it. Keep everything in writing from now on, keep a record, take photos, keep all invoices and receipts! edited by Rowellian on 23/01/2014

Also ask the school what happens to the youngest children when they arrive at school? Do they have to make their own way to the classroom with their own bags or does somebody escort them to their classroom and wait with them until the bell rings? I have seen some very young children that are on the bus who look very lost, all on their own. It's a great chance for a parent to get to know other parents and teaching staff. Also check how long your child will be on the bus for each way? This will depend on how many drop of & picks up on your bus route. It has to be your decision.

2nd UPDATE - Second hearing over. LL offered 5000 of which we turned down. Nothing could be agreed so the LL now has to file a case against us. Date has been set for the third hearing in January, of which I'm guessing will be postponed again so that we can organise our counter claim.

We have attended both Repton and DESS and for us DESS wins hands down. But some schools suit some children and not others;- here are some of my observations;- They are very different schools so you have to weigh up what is more important to you. Repton has 10 classes per year where DESS only has 5! You are a just a number at Repton, nobody knows who anybody is, where the staff at DESS are more likely to know your childs name, for example the receptionist and librarian. If Christmas carol singing and concerts/plays are important to you, then DESS is the school for you. Repton don't host anything to do with Christmas. Also as far as I know Repton still don't have a hall to host any concerts. I think they still use the internal areas between class rooms etc. Repton is much stricter and rigid, for example if you child forgets (or parent) forgets their library book then they will have to wait a week to change it, they are not allowed in the library, where at DESS they can change their books as many times as they like during the week and are welcome to pop in and out of the library after school or even during play time. It is much harder to be included in one of the sports teams at Repton due to the high numbers and they will only be selected if they are the best of the best and can get changed on time and quickly. Repton also send home serious amounts of homework. There are several more reasons why we prefer DESS, but all schools are different so you have to decide which would work better for your child and your family. VH is a new school but only heard good things about it. Foremarke is owned by Repton, so assuming will be ran like Repton.

My children both attended Repton but we decided to move them to another school as it wasn't for us. We found the school to be too big, at the time there was 11 classes in the year group, not enough western children for an English school, not enough events such as carol singing, school productions etc... Not much emphasis on fun learning, too much homework on a daily and weekend basis! Not enough facilities for the amount of students at the school and the school is still not finished after 5 or 6 years of being open. There are lots and lots more reasons but all children are different and are suited to different schools.
