How did you find it leaving your son at uni in the uk ? I have one at uni here and no 2 starting in september when I will have to come over to Doha full time ( not sure about that at all as my husband constantly moans about everything there !! ) and even though mine are grown up'ish am dreading leaving them here without back up at weekends and holidays etc- having spent most of there schooling overseas my kids just want to stay in the UK now for all holidays and christmas etc....

Thanks for that- like you i would have supposed that HR would have sorted it all out too but so far they have been rubbish at all that stuff that you would expect them to do !! they would have been my first port of call too but have 1 HR guy for thousands of staff- although to be fair they have been quick at sorting other things like accomodation and flights out- re banking they said go wherever you want !! I did think of HSBC so maybe will tell him to go there- like I said he has a really responsible job managing huge accounts etc but in his domestic life he hates dealing with all the bank stuff and has always had me to deal with it all for him !! Good to hear that there are plenty of places for cash transfer as having never visited yet- my first time will be January- I can't visualise anything...once I have been and had a lookabout I am sure a lot will be clearer...looking forward to it...

I am just going through the university application process and luckily we moved back to the UK 2 years ago so we will qualify for the lower fees - still 9k though per year !! and we could also apply for the student loan and grant but I have friends who are still at the international school we were at and they will have to pay the higher fees and no application for any grant or loans. The whole UCAS application is really complicated and I don't know how you can get around the application if you school outside the EU as the school /college have to put a whole personal statement for the potential student so they will know exactly which country you are coming from..!! - although at my sons uni in the uk he says there are a lot of students from the UAE.
